I'm going to keep this concept very simple. The story behind this image is about little Teo (a baby whale) set free to the big ocean. He's lost its way at birth and ended up at the coast of an island. Ever since the incident the local people have looked after this cute little friend. Unfortunately a new season is fast approaching, which means riding the high tides in the area is no longer possible. To save him, the locals help drive Teo out to the unforeseen big ocean, this set the beginning of a new adventure. Free to go find and reunite with his family, free to meet new friends and free to discover about the many unknowns throughout the journey.

i like your concept.. very cool and the style of drawing is great, but remember you gotta use sub surface scatering effects and all that stuff on the image ..

that will look awesome on whater, the light coming behind it. ill be looking at this thread. good luck :) and have lot of fun

Thanks Genesisa, yep I had a similar thought as what you had in mind. SSS seems to be the way to go. I'm thinking of having a mix of soft and hard plastic look and feel to this work. Much is required experimenting. Hopefully it'll turn out as to what I visualise in my head.

Just some quick backdrop landscape sketches to setup the environment. Still think the bottom middle one (also represented in the original concept) works best. A bold island that shows the water level decrease as mentioned from the story. Feel free to shout out your thoughts.

claudio_jordao: Thanks Claudio_jordao, apart from the 3D stuff, I do enjoy conceptual sketching, its fun nutting out what I visualise with my imagination and applying it onto paper. There will be more of it til its enough to get me started with the modelling side.

Nomad: My favourite small house concept sits on the top left hand. Is there one the you like in particular amongest the rest?

Selina42: Thanks, your thoughts and comments is very valuable. Keep an eye on it cause there will be a little bit more of these sketches floating around.

mmbenya: Will try my best while having fun. Thanks.

Kjello: Thanks.... that is the way I think and draw... hee hee.

Don't know if I will be using any of these water vessel as a backdrop, but if I do then its there as a reference when I come to the modelling phase.

Playing around to make little Teo as cute as possible. Quiet satisfied with the one in the middle. Anyone got any suggestion to make this whale more cute? Happy to hear from you.

Hey like your island concept sketches, especially those in the lower corners -- particularly the left side, which looks like a twisted tree. Very funky.

vfxluc: I'm no story teller but at least I'm glad you like it. Thanks.

ceanbluesky: Yep that is a twisted tree. I've tried to push for an ancient oriental look with a small house sitting on the branch. Thanks.

Nikolay: Thanks, I like sketch but I think the next focus will be on modelling. Good luck too you as well.

MichaelMotion: VERY CUTE? I’m hearing things again, hee hee. Thanks.

mahmoud_ouf: Thanks, the progress seems to be working very well. So far so good. Probably will hit a brick wall somewhere and somehow along way, and when that happens I’m sure the comments I get will be very valuable.

luigithekid: Thanks for the feedback on the ideas you like, very helpful in making my choices.

Nakary: Trying to keep it all simple. Thanks!

This is the 3D wireframe version of a small house that sits on top of the island. I like the form of this one from my sketches and decided to stick with it. Slight structural changes here and there and this is what it looks like in 3D.

I pull all the elements apart to showcase how this model was done. Hopefully this breakup will help anyone who wants to understand more of the modeling side. It's really basic bits and pieces which makes up the model.

megabytes2004: Hopefully my texturemap skills can live upto my modelling standard. Thanks!

luigithekid: Thanks, the island is coming... keep an eye on it.

oceanbluesky: ha ha ha, with those roof top and strings attached to it this house does certainly look like a ship.
