This theme reminds of an old picture I've never finished. And I feel like doing something of the same kind for this challenge.

It was a picture that I've painted 8 months ago. I was a total newb... Back then, I was practising hard to improve.
Here the never-to-be-finished image. I remember I learned one or 2 tricks about painting while doing it. ^^

So, I'll revive this old concept. Or maybe not entierly, but at least I'll keep the title.

And here's a really quick concept sketch I've done a few hours ago. The idea was to show a traveller, kinda old maybe, bearing some package and staring at the horizon, with on his face an intense expression of hope and joy. With also a strong ligtning from before him.

I think I'll add some books in his package. And techno stuff or something.
And also, I'll give him a little creature, some kind of very little monkey... or mice... probably sat on his shoulder. Because travelling alone is so damn boring.

Just a very quick try to define a color scheme... Am not really happy with it.

Another try. Not really a color scheme, but I was still working on colors.

So, I started the coloring. I'd need some very serious help with the clothes : the colors, mostly.
I've still so much to learn... *sigh* I only hope I'll learn enough during this challenge to be able to achieve to the photorealistic look I wanted...

Hiya! This is looking wonderful. Hmm the clothes, maybe go for greens and browns? Wearing white clothes means that they will get dirty easily.

Great work!

I generally paint directly the little details. Oh, and by the way I'm currently designing the little creature I'm gonna put somewhere on the pic.
For the clothes, finally I think I'll just paint the remaining clothing the way I painted this little detail. It looks good enough. It aint photorealistic, it's better.

I've been busy with school and with a few other artworks, which explains the rather long hiatus on my entry. So, here's what I have done, so far...

I think I'll give up this painting and start another one. I really don't like this one anymore, for some reason, and I realized that it was becoming rather old, and that I'm now able to do something better -I've improved quite a bit during this last month.
I have already an idea for the new painting. I've been thinking for rather long about that... since I'm gonna spend arround 40 hours or near on it, it'd be better if the base concept doesn't suck too much.

I've been trying to come up with a scene in which there would be emotion -something that would stand out, not only a "pretty artwork", but a painting that would challenge the viewer.
Or at least, a painting about a subject which would be important for me -essential, actualy. Thinking is easier than painting, and it's the most important part in the whole process.

There are 4 mains elements that will structure the new image :

**A lonely man, in the bottom left, someone with who anybody could be identified -probably wearing very common clothes. He's just begun his journey, but he's not walking, he just sits down on a rock and brood. In a meditative pose. Gives the piture a reflective aspect.

**A road going through the whole picture, from the bottom (viewer level) to the top (horizon), symbolising the journey the character will have to go through.

**An autumnal forest : a decaying environnement. A journey through life is a perpetual fall, and by the time the character will have reached his goal, winter will be there.

**Shattered stones covered with letters and runes, everywhere in the forest. Journeys bring wisdom to the traveller.
And there's nothing that I enjoy more when travelling than walking through old and mind-boogling ruins -we have quite a lot of these in France.

I'll start drawing the first sketches right now ;)
