Waaaa ! :bounce:

this is my first participation to a CG Challenge ! Skill is impressive.

I really don't have a lot of time, but I'll try hard to get a finished work in time ! :argh:

My personnal goal is to make a picture by using all things I don't know well in 3D ! It's like jumping in a wall, but I'll be much better at the end !

See you soon for my first sktech. And my first challenge in the challenge : my drawing level is near zero :arteest: !

And Good luck to all participants.

I've made 14 (very) small concept sketches, and here are the 2 I prefer.

First one is the traditionnal rat climbing over the rope to a boat... But it's not a boat, it's a dirigeable. A very different journey is going to begin !

Second is my favorite : a little girl is going to have her first 'alone' journey.

How she chooses to start it ? By drinking a hot chocolate with her Teddy bear while waiting for train...
Station around will be very very huge, and surely not just a train station !

Help me to choose between one of this concepts ! Thanks a lot...

The first draft in 3D to have a better viez of the rat on wire ...

Here is a 3D sketch of my second concept.

I find this one much more interesting and deeper than 'rat story'. Indeed, it would need so much time to finalize that I'm really not sure to be able to do it.
Or may be I should stop all other work ?

I think the DOF effect is nice on this sketch, but what about final picture ? A good Lighting should give a better and clearer view of depth.

There is so much things to do in this picture : train, dirigeable, caracters, teddy bear (I'll use Teddy software ;-) )... That it is really exciting to make it !

Thanks for comments, they would help a lot !

No way. the rat was a much better concept. And the fact that it is easier to create than this one is all the more reason to go with the rat.

i gotta say, i prefer the rat too. i love the perspective. and ooh, you're doing airships too!

#3 for the rat here. It's fairly easy to grasp the overall story of the little girl, but there is a bit more action and drama in the rat story. Both are solid though.

I agree with many others ;) Rat was much better concept.

Good luck

I like both concepts. The rats has a bit more of dynamic, and action in the picture, which could be more fun to make. But the second one has a better history. At least i think so.

Keep it up, and good luck.

Thank's a lot !

It's true, I like airships  !

I'm going to make 'Rat Story'. Everybody likes it ! :p

And there is a true play with camera, instead of standard 50mm view of 'girl story'.

So, let's start modeling ! :wip:

Hi,

very nice concept... I just love airship travelling! Just one humble opinion, maybe you open the upper front part of your hangar to get more depth into your comp. The holes where the airships fly through at the moment look very tiny and the wall maybe covers a lot of interestings "small" things in the background. Besides great work so far... gonna watch this thread!

Just start Modeling !

After some times studing Rat Anatomy, I made a 'Rat Biped'. It will be used for modeling guideline and for poses.

So, I've start modeling the Rats.

Rats were so often used in cartoons, comics, that it's very difficult to find a 'personnal' rat. My version is a mix between cartoon and realistic.

Now, I'm thinking of adopting a real rat to have a permanent reference... But I'm not sure if it would like to live in my scanner.

nice start bro.
The muzzle and the ears are on the good way but u will have to work back for legs and corpse :)

mmmm scanner rat.

You have a nice start. But I would think about lean more towards cartoon or more toward realistic. That or adopt a specific style. Do you have an example of a style in mind?

Keep going in whatever you do. :buttrock:

i think your rat has a personal style already. i think that the muzzle may be too blunt though. maybe make it pointy-er.

It was hard to find time to continue...

I worked on face and hands.
The main part of body will be covered with fur, so it needs less polygones than 'visible' parts.

My vision of rat is more precise now, and next posts will show it better.

I'm impatient to work more on it !

Thanks for all your comments, they help me a lot.

I dont like the claws, but it is a great start! I had rats as a child. And last year I purchased a water dragon to study dragon skin for 3d, big responsibility. But worth it, I like him a lot, and he makes a great model, staying still for hours. I would like to see more!

here's just some encouragement. i know it can be hard to find time, but you need to continue on this. great concept and you have the modeling skills to pull it off. go go go.

A Very sad post...

I have to resign ! Deadline is going on faster and faster. And I have less and less free time.

I'm a teacher, and it is near the end of terme. So, I have load of corrections to do ! And, also, as a usual calendar joke, it is the end of my fiscal year. So, my most used software for now is : Spreadsheet ! :argh:

I really wish that next Challenge will be on better time ! :banghead:

Indeed, I've finish my rat :p .

I wish Good Luck and good work to all those who continue ! Have a nice Challenge ! And see you for next one :wip:
