Ok so here is what I've got so far. As you can see from my box dude mesh I didn't really know where I was going with this model.

I've got a few ideas, which I haven't yet done concept sketches for that could use such a creature.

I haven't really decided what I'm doing with his lower half hence he still has sausage toes...mmm sausages :P

Wow you guys r quick I thought I'd get them all posted before anyone saw :P

Basically I just wanted to learn zbrush, make a cool creature and finally enter a cg challenge. Now I just have to think of a cool way to make them all work together.

Ok so here is my favorite idea which is pretty lame...Instead of the usual good guy setting off on an adventure to conquer evil I thought I’d have an evil character setting of on an adventure to conquer good. He would be starting in a dark and slimy environment traveling towards a bright and fresh looking environment. He would be bearing weapons and possibly wearing human heads as trophy’s to make his intentions more obvious.

Another idea I had after looking at many inspiring images from Boris Vallejo was having my creature and a human female babe holding hands like they're at the alter getting married. Instead of a priest there would be some big scary dude is a dark robe. Instead of a ring their would be blood dripping from their hands like they’d just become blood brothers…er…or whatever.

So that’s what I’ve got so far now I just have to get it done and since I gave my months notice at my current job a few days ago soon I’ll have plenty of free time to finish it off…YAY :D

He's got a face now and some muscles on his legs. I'm reasonably happy with the look of his face so it will probably stay. Haven't decided on the look of the mouth yet...

I want the character to look evil, any suggestions as to how I might acheive this would be greatly appreciated :)

...I'm trying some spikes n stuff but they just feel lame, maybe once they have more detail in them they won't look so bad.

Hmm...The feet probably wont get to much more attention because I'm pretty sure you won't be seen in the final image.

Yeah, I just learn Z- brush a few days ago finally - but I don't think I m going to use it for this contest. Just remember not to overkill it in Z brush. Be looking forward to your concept. :thumbsup:

forearm is too long, elbow should be in the middle of the hand; shoulder is completely messed up, i'd really recommend to study at least basics of underlying anatomy, if you want to have these muscles in the right place. i quite like the wrist and the lap, though they need minor corrections, too.

Thanks for the critique :) Hey yeah the forearm is to long, I'll correct that in my next wip. "elbow should be in the middle of the hand"...I'm not sure what you meant by this? I haven't gotten to the shoulder yet :) "i quite like the wrist and the lap"...lap?

Thankyou very much for the reference links. Those cross fading sketches are awesome. I'm keeping the muscles very defined to help me keep track of where they all go as I learn the anatomy.

Things are slowly coming together. I could spend 3 months trying to perfect this arm. I'm really loving zbrush.

Did I ever thank you for answering my zbrush questions? ...I have a bad habit of writing half an email saving the draft and never getting around to finishing it :( ...thanks again(possibly) :D

Only 7 more days and I'm a free man, hopefully then I'll start to make a lot more progress :)

Don't know where I'm going with this, I will probably end up smoothing out a lot of the muscle detail. It was originally going to be an unhealthy/skinny looking character...this guy looks pretty healthy.

So healthy in fact it looks like it could tear me in half fairly easily :) Great job with it, toss in some colour detail and you've definately got a villian there. Has getting it to that nicely detailed stage helped you narrow down the concept?

Hmm probably not, I often get caught up trying to make elements of the anatomy look cool and forget about the overall character...

That guy is ripped, wonder how may sit-ups it takes to get thoes kind of abs :P.

Really good zbrush work, some of the best i've seen cosidering the box model you started from.

:rolleyes: Well I redid the base mesh before I posted the first pic of the arm. I didn't think it was worth submitting to the thread. I will post a pic of the new topology when I next submit progress.

...damn its been a month since my last update :( I've been very busy, things have calmed down now so I'll be spending much more time on this.

I've got to start planning out my composition so I don't work on any unnecessary detail.

Still pretty rough in some areas, particularly his butt, feet and head(excluding his face).

I think he's going to be wearing some clothes/armour which will cover his crotch and butt.

Like his face a lot, nice style. Cool with alien types that are more stylish than discusting if you know what i mean.
