Diamonds are hell: total internal reflection (really high ray depth, almost infinite reflection/refraction steps), chromatic aberration in the refraction, optical dispersion on the internal surfaces. For some productions you end up faking 90% of these effects, using things like env maps with rainbows in them to add color, because doing it right is so hard!
