02-28-2006, 08:26 PM
Thanks guys, yeah, now I have plenty of time and I'll sure have fun with it! :bounce: Got some sketches, just need to scan them. I'll post them soon. :)
03-05-2006, 02:26 PM
These are some sketches I've picked. I tried to lay down a few ideas, trying to determine which is the best : a journey of trouts up the streams to mating grounds; some kind of little critter ( I think it could be an ant in the future ) that sets off to unknown on the other side of the Great Lake; two faerie sketches - travelling in packs; a hellish idea of a school attending.
Any comments would be much appreciated.
03-07-2006, 09:46 PM
The first two sketches are really good. And the school one is really funny. But I couldn't tell you which one to go with, hard to choose.
Good luck and free time!
03-07-2006, 09:51 PM
great approach to the challemge, its good to work it out, and i love the way u handle the light..ps the scary lookin school is just too precious:thumbsup:
03-08-2006, 07:22 PM
Dave - thanks, I'm gonna pass the "trouts jumping" one, but I'll think of the sea and the school. I have some other ideas rolling in my head, will try to put them onto paper.
Nebezial - thank you very much for the compliment. So two votes for the schoolconcept... might be a good idea to develope it :)
03-10-2006, 10:02 PM
I thought of one of opening lines from "Forrest Gump" - you can tell everything from one's shoes... where he's been, where he was going... It made me do this sketch. :)
First I tried to make the shoes a first plane from ground perspective, but I was missing.... a background. This feelinmg made me expand my canvas a LOT further to the extent you see. :)
I hope you like it more than the previous ones. :) I think it has a lot of potential in it, I'll focus on this idea.
03-10-2006, 10:08 PM
Compo is lovely dude, stick with it and yes it has potential, good luck with this one!
03-10-2006, 10:33 PM
Thanks, Bryce. I really appreciate it :) Yeah, I tried to really work on the compo, before I went to shading. I'm really glad it shows :) Tommorow - and update!
03-13-2006, 06:38 PM
love your sketch it have a direction in the way that you told. i like it a lot
& best of luck!!:)
03-13-2006, 09:48 PM
I upresed, doodled a lot with the composition ( and I hope the cottage support pole doesn't cut it too much ) and proper perspective lines... made the stairs less wide, so that they don't run off the page, corrected the scale of the cottage, added first texture wash... all in all - a lot of dooding. I've also made a principal colour scheme, but I didn't like it, so I won't post it untill it's better. That will be untill tommorow I hope. :)
I would REALLY use another two days in the week, so that I have time for everything... maybe we could gather lots of signs on a petition or something?... :D Who's with me? :D
03-13-2006, 10:00 PM
SINAD - thanks, I'm really glad you like it and I hope you like an update as well. :)
The sky is REALLY temp so far, I'll be needing to use a lot of reference with the whole pic. Anyway - I hope to show some progress on the colour work tommorow.
03-13-2006, 10:28 PM
you know, the more i see of these 'worm's eye view' compositions the more i like them. i think it really works with the theme.
looking forward to seeing this one some together.
PS - i think the tree breaks up the post enough to not have to worry about it separating the compostion.
03-13-2006, 10:42 PM
The morning light is great, even without colours! The perspective is allright, it works well, and the cottage support pole doesn't cut the composition at all. But in my opinion his left tgigh is a little too long. And i don't like the basecap. :hmm:
And yes, I'm with you and your petitition. :D
03-14-2006, 12:55 AM
hey Mike, I just uploaded my new concept...and found it creepily similar to yours!!:) Just wanted to let you know, crazy coincidence! I think your stuff is great, especially that crazy gorilla..best of luck to you...Alex
03-14-2006, 04:37 AM
What an amazing camera tilt. And nicely drawn too. Good luck with the challenge :)
03-14-2006, 01:03 PM
good corner camera
good luck!
03-14-2006, 03:10 PM
anzibon - glad you like it. I also plan to put the pole into shadow, so it shouldn't break up the compo. I was affraid that diminishing the steps would cause the img to be out of balance, but I think it holds...
Chinasky - about the leg I think you're right, I'll play with it a little. About the cap - it will be a scarf, that is wrapped around his head. In the end it shoud add a bit of wanderer's looks to the char.
Alex - it's not too similiar, we used kinda same objects, but I have something different in mind than you, don't worry about it. :) Best of luck, man and I'm glad you like my works. :)
elgrozi, LexLe - thanks for good words :)
03-14-2006, 05:34 PM
Nice work!
03-14-2006, 07:12 PM
Just a test, that I think I'll stick with - I flipped the img and rotated it. As I compared with the previous one - it holds a vertical axis a lot more and I think it's more balanced now. Also the compo opens to the wandering direction, not closes on the guy.
03-14-2006, 07:15 PM
Kostix - thanks :)
03-14-2006, 09:11 PM
Why? Stay with previous composition. IMHO
It seems, he just admires a landscape now
And all dynamics is lost... :hmm:
03-14-2006, 09:54 PM
I'm not sure about the flipping... Although it is more logical like now (counterclockwise eye-leading and this stuff), it looked more special before... I noticed that my eyes travelled trough the first version just from character to his journey and back to him, well hard to explain actualy :D , but it was more intresting thing before indeed. However, if you stick with this one, make sure that there is less attention at the sky and more at the path.
03-17-2006, 08:49 PM
I decided - cause of your input as well ( thanks a lot ) - to return to the previous idea, that is more interesting and reads properly - the character is second, which gives it greater importance I think. The sky is still temporary - I can't make a good one :( That's my greatest pain here... I'll struggle though and keep you posted.
03-17-2006, 10:02 PM
Maybe we can get closer to the character that should help! I like where this is going a lot!;)
03-18-2006, 07:35 AM
So you mean croping the canvas, so that the char is bigger?
03-18-2006, 09:33 AM
wow! I just adore this. The colours are wonderful! I love what you've done with the lighting in the distance.
03-18-2006, 10:41 AM
Nice sky - I like it. The general impresion is great too.
03-25-2006, 06:44 PM
I woke up one day and looked at the last piece I did and thought it's too... clichee - a sunrise, mountains. etc... And I was thinking of birth - a life-long journey, with soo many possible ways that it's overwhelming to even think about them.
Optimists say, that life consists of happy moments. Those moments give light to our dull, gray, everyday life. Also those moments can be turning points in our journey, the crossroads on the path of life.
Finally - from the day of birth our path is straight and clearly visible, we are being carried in our parents' arms. Then the road start to twist and turn, we can't see it that clearly. But in those turning points we sometimes can see waht lies ahead, in short distance, but still.
Those are the thoughts I tried to put into this concept. I think this is the one I'll finally render. :)
C/c would be appreciated. :)
03-25-2006, 07:53 PM
i did like the first one but this one is really good.
i think you should color it quickly becouse its not really understandable without reading your explanation or examining a little long. but it will be beatiful as i can see.
im curious about the colors you'll use
03-25-2006, 08:10 PM
Yeah, I need to balance out the importance of the objects, I'm thinking of making the child bigger. Now it's all too balanced. Will dig it more. And the colours will add to it also I think. i have a cool idea, but we'll see how it turns out. :) Thanks for comment.
03-31-2006, 10:11 AM
I probably stay with this one, can't decide... :( It's so hard to make something appealing and interesting. This started as try-out of Goro's brushes - you can dl them here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=200222) :
Then I came up with an idea... You'll see in the next update :)
03-31-2006, 10:18 AM
Nice to see that u are using Goro's brushes, I am still around buddy, still haven't forgot about u! Nice sketches mate, keep em coming!
03-31-2006, 10:38 AM
Heh, thanks for your continuing support, mate :) Those brushes are sooo powerfull :D
OK, off to work :wip:
03-31-2006, 06:52 PM
So I came up with a simple idea - a family of mice is waiting to be picked up by a parrot, to move to another tree house - their furniture will be added further. I just wanted to make something fun, simple and appealing ( I'll try at least :) ) Hope you like it. :)
04-03-2006, 04:55 AM
Someone else is doing the idea of mice getting picked up by a bird man. You might not get much reply on this since the thread that makaron started seems famous and has gotten a lotta support already. Nice sketches btw.
04-03-2006, 05:44 AM
glad to see you're trying some options. i have a suspicion you'll wind up gong back to your first idea. that sky will come together for you if you keep banging on it. that's a very cool tree, btw.
they actually have trees like that here in australia. i couldn't believe it first time i saw one. they look like set models. anyway...
i really dig your dude putting on hiking boots. it's not as plain as you might be thinking. it's a really striking composition and it made me want to go there pretty bad. and i'm really not that all that outdoorsy.
either way though, have fun!
04-03-2006, 10:52 AM
ahbeejieh - I'm not sure to any of those ideas, just wanna check which one has the greatest potential. I might dig more into "Birth" idea...
anzibon - and you might be right a bout that, man. :) I could really end up with this guy in the end. And yeah, the tree was painted from reference, but loosely. I had no idea this tree was from Australia, though.. :)
K, will dig in more. And update soon.
04-03-2006, 02:21 PM
Great value study. I really like the bird's eye perspective
04-03-2006, 06:24 PM
danielh68 - thanks :) I'm glad you like it. :)
04-04-2006, 06:29 AM
Im lovin the concept!!
04-05-2006, 09:08 PM
AWaqas - thanks :)
Have a hard time choosing one, but sonn ther will be an update. :)
04-06-2006, 04:53 AM
I am interested in the baby idea still. Try working different compos out for that one!:)
04-06-2006, 10:46 AM
Przypomina mi to Katedre, faajne :applause:
Looks great so far, thers a good mood here
Good luck and have fun :bounce:
04-06-2006, 09:42 PM
Bryce - will dig it, it kinda has some potential. Got the image in my mind, just to find time to put it onto paper/digital canvas... :)
Nomad - thanks for good words :) It's not nearly as good as Cathedral, but it might have some of this mood in it...
04-06-2006, 11:40 PM
Yeah simple but nice. I like the style of the tree and the black/white color. Are you going to add color??
04-07-2006, 02:22 PM
snowman - thanks :) I will colour it for sure, but I'm still thinking of choosing a different idea for the competition....
04-07-2006, 06:28 PM
I've just looked at your thread and going through it is a great journey in intself. You have had some great concepts on the way. I loved the dramatic sky with the guy and his shoes. The new life or birth concept really appealed to me. It's not far away from the concept I'm using for my entry (the link is below).
I'll be keeing an eye on the development of your ideas. Best of luck with it, whatever you end up with looks like it'll be great.
04-07-2006, 09:58 PM
EdP-Art - thanks, you could say it was a journey of some kind :D... I've come up with lots of ideas, posted here better ones in my opinion.... still need to decide which one to choose. Noone will do it for me, unfortunatelly... :(
I've seen your concept. Yeah, we both came up with similiar ideas, but shown in a totally different way. :) It's really hard to come up with some original idea in so numerous community, so I think a lot of ideas will repeat to some degree. But that's unavoidable, I think. We just have to try not to be suggested by other's art and stick to our own ideas. Will be good, I think. The most important is to have fun and lear with it. :)
04-10-2006, 09:45 PM
Come on... don't you stop now... still waiting for sum updates!! :bounce: :D
04-11-2006, 10:28 PM
I didn't stop... I'm just buried up to my nose in work :) Will post soon. Sorry for keeping you waiting. :)
04-11-2006, 10:43 PM
Nice work here man:buttrock:
Narodziny - zajefajny koncept
haha mike you better make some time soon mate. i want to see this loose knot tied already!
05-23-2006, 08:15 PM
Hey, Slav :) I WILL certainly do finish the work, even if I'll sit nights till deadline. I just got tons of freelance work, that simply takes away all of my free time + exams + tons of different things...
Thanks for dropping by and making me kick myself to work :D I owe you one, when we meet :)
Beer I mean, of course :P :D
05-23-2006, 09:07 PM
:) :) Great Work Michal....
Real nice sense of scale - I really hope you finish this...
I'm struggling with freelance work too so I know how you feel...
05-23-2006, 10:53 PM
Hey - love the concept sketch - beautifully painted and clear story. Will look forward to the final piece if you manage to complete - or rather when! Goodluck with the wee small hours,
05-24-2006, 06:59 AM
Quill, Freeman - thank you very muchlee for the feedback :) I will definitelly try to finish the concept before the deadline.
05-28-2006, 10:57 PM
Unfortunatelly - too busy to finish it in time, but I will. I hope to send it into the "finished ones" gallery. Thank you all for the constant input and see you in the next one! ( I hope )
05-29-2006, 12:02 AM
that's a shame. early on i thought your concept of the guy on the porch was one of the stronger compositions. i hope you get a chance to finish that one in particular. even outside of the context of the contest, it's a really strong image.
