5 days, 9 hours and 48 minutes until the deadline and I am only just submitting a concept sketch. I must be crazy! Yeah, but I couldn't settle on an idea before and this is meant to be a challenge so ...

I had many initial ideas for this challenge but nothing felt solid enough to run with so I figured this would be just one more CG Talk Challenge that I missed. But no! I have a few days free and I have decided that it would be fun to develop one of those simpler concepts within the tight time constraints so, enough said, let's get on with it.
------------------------------
The Concept sketch is very rough. (Trust me I know what it means.)
------------------------------
For millions of years the moth has been obsessed with the bright light in the night sky. They strive to reach it but but never achieve their goal. Instead they settle for attainable targets, like street lights, headlights and open flames. That is the way of the moth. They accept their limitations and are happy to dance their way to their destruction. They are drawn to it like moths to a flame. (heh)

A small band of moths, inspired by the imagination of a one-winged moth called, Francis, has been busy constructing a contraption that they hope will finally enable them to break free of their chains and lead all mothdom into a new and brighter age.

Let the Journey begin!

Hi,
nice to see your thread back on track.
Very nice concept.

Good luck, and don't drink too much coffee :scream:

Thank you, Torsten!

I see that you are approaching the end of your journey as I set off. Well done on keeping it going. I will have to keep my image much simpler than yours in order to stand a chance of completing it in time but I will try my best to make it interesting.

On to concepts for the characters next ...

A quick sketch to give a rough representation of the way the characters will be portrayed. They will start off pretty simple and if time allows I will add more detail.
I have just received an email to tell me that a friend will be flying in from Canada to visit for the next two days so that is going to seriously affect my progress. I must think 'simple'!

Do you have several cases of caffiene? I think you may have extra time if you don't sleep! Cool concept but you need to start modeling!

Shaded wireframe of the first moth. The others will be cloned from this guy and modified.

Not as much progress today as I had hoped for but at least I have actually started this time.

More tomorrow...

A little more modelling but keeping it pretty simple.

Thank you for the encouragement! You are right about the rush, and I need sleep already!

Thank you. I will certainly try to finish something before the deadline but I may have to compromise more than I originally thought.

Ha, ha! No caffeine tonight. Time for sleep and a fresh start in the morning. Thanks!

A quick update before I am forced to take a little break from this.

Friday and Saturday are going to be manic!

The journey began, the ship sailed and I was still standing on the pier. I should have set out earlier.

Well, I thought that might happen. I didn't manage to get back to my last minute entry and I had a serious change of character design in mind. Oh well. next time, eh? ;-)

GOOD LUCK to all the amazing contributers! I don't envy the judges their task of sorting the winners from so much superb work!
