03-02-2006, 03:35 PM
First concept, perhaps the last
03-02-2006, 03:39 PM
I like your idea and drawing.. maybe change the perspective so the proportions
are bigger by comparison? In the instructions they mention to focus on physically
small characters.. I'm still trying to figure this out with my own and I'd love some
feedback!! Here's the link http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=323666
03-02-2006, 06:18 PM
Thank for your comment adam, for the character's proportions is true but it's just a sketch, i don't know if i keep this
03-02-2006, 06:24 PM
Nice idea!! I'd bring the people closer to the viewer to full up some of the dead space in the middle of the scene.
03-03-2006, 07:03 AM
With that knid of project... I only can push you in this way Laurent... GO GO GO at 1000%... I will follow you... affute la wacom et farte le style gars :scream: et fais glisser..............
03-06-2006, 06:34 PM

03-16-2006, 03:58 PM
Thank for your nice comments guys
03-16-2006, 09:42 PM
I just wanne say, i have a similar theme - with such an airship, too.
And today i saw your work in here, and you submitted your first sketch 2 days before my first one.
So it might look like i was inspired by your idea, but i wasn't. (Well, i explained my idea in one posting, but this is no proof.) So i just wanne make sure, you have no problem with i go in a similar direction. Now its just possible to change the theme, but while i would like to continue with my sketch, i'd like to make sure, you're not going to blame me right before the deadline. ;)
Anyway, good luck! :)
03-16-2006, 11:11 PM
No problemo for me continued your theme:thumbsup:
03-16-2006, 11:46 PM
Nice sketch Laurent, waiting to see more! Good luck again!
03-17-2006, 06:42 AM
great start Laurent, keep up the great work, looks very promissing :)
03-17-2006, 08:38 AM
Hahaha... much airships in this challenge... so good.. like that, we can keep our minds in the skies...
...nice coloring step Laurent... very promising
03-17-2006, 12:03 PM
the clouds in this position have a positive point, they directin ours eyes to horizon.
the looking is good!
Hi LAurent, your style of painting is interesting and the scene too, I like the theme you´re in.
03-17-2006, 01:05 PM
looking good!! the thumbnail really caught my eye which is always a really good sign for a base comp and lighting/tonal workings :)
hope to se you keep the strong lighting...but minde which way the light (sun) should be comming from...hehe
looking forward to seeing this one progress :)
03-17-2006, 07:28 PM
Thank you for your nices advices and your comments guys
03-17-2006, 09:01 PM

03-18-2006, 10:59 AM

Great concept, it says it all!
03-23-2006, 10:34 AM
Work on the boat relined this
03-25-2006, 03:07 PM
more work on the boat
03-25-2006, 03:53 PM
hey nice updates!!
i think all the elements need a little resolving...ie how and where they all connest into the scenes space...but again its just early times so im sure youll get that down soon :)
as i said before you thumbnail stood out to me...the tones are very nice...only need a little tweaking for the full picture to come together....its really looking sweet :)
03-25-2006, 04:06 PM
Hello there Laurent, long time no see! Just want to wish you all the best with your entry. Is that wheels at the bottom of the ship? Or is the ship actually a zepellin? Or a hybrid? I am curious and will wait to see how the ship design turn out in the end!
03-25-2006, 06:58 PM
hi ! man ! nice progress so far ! but it look confuse at the bottom is sea or cloud , maybe you can add more detail in next stage and make audience see what you want with out read the described text! good job dude!
03-27-2006, 10:26 AM
Thank you for your constructive comments. At the moment, only the dirigible boat was refined the rest is still in the state of sketch, it is about a boat of pure imagination, there are effectively wheels, but it remains a dirigible, without epoque, without réference
03-30-2006, 11:13 AM
more refined the dirigible boat
03-30-2006, 08:19 PM
ah, that boat is looking really cool! love the details. no crits yet! it's coming together very nicely
03-31-2006, 04:32 AM
Really superb Laurent... with your drawing, I'm totally the head in the sky... mmmh... pleasant view mate... with nice and fine colors... I feel well the mood at this step...
03-31-2006, 04:40 AM
fantastic progress, the light looks great ans so does thte shading. great work on the base rendering, looking forward to the texturing and the upcoming details :)

04-01-2006, 10:10 AM
Thank for your comments mates
04-01-2006, 10:18 AM
Looks good :)
How are you going to implement your characters into it? Remember to achive greater feel of the distances.
04-01-2006, 03:54 PM
Finish to refined and detailled the dirigible boat
04-03-2006, 07:12 PM
I begin to paint the ground

Thank for your nices comments mates
04-06-2006, 03:28 PM
looking good man, the lighting is great !
04-06-2006, 07:24 PM
Thank for yours comments mate
04-07-2006, 09:53 AM
I must agree too that this lighting is particulary impressive... nice work Laurent...
...no more water now ? only desert then... why not...
Just something I don't like so much... the fan... don't know... maybe the orientation and this chrome to much flashy, too much clean... nothing to crit for the rest... just perfect...
04-07-2006, 11:52 AM
Yes you are right, the helix is too squeaky clean, i go the rework with the luminosity of the boat I thinks
04-08-2006, 12:23 AM
nice colors, nice composition, but still some elements of the "journey's" story are missing.
is it noah's arc? is it indiana jones's flight to egypt? what are you realy telling here?
if you add the right story elements i am sure you can come up with an awesome piece.
04-08-2006, 11:28 AM
Thank you for comments. When I would post the final image, she will be accompanied with the footnotes of history and I think that there, the image will speak about herself
04-10-2006, 09:18 PM
I began to paint the first characters
04-12-2006, 11:28 AM
Thank for your nice comments mate
04-12-2006, 01:04 PM
fantastic detail and design! the ship and balloon are magnificent. very nice work...
04-12-2006, 02:42 PM
I've nothing to add. Great Picture!
04-12-2006, 07:19 PM
Thank for your nices comments mates
Journey begins 2d
HERE IS MINE (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=3435042)
great job, great detail
but i got question, the shadows...sun shouldn't spread them with that angle? i mean woman, man and tents shadows are all different.?
04-13-2006, 06:09 PM
Thank you for comments. For the shadows, I know that angles would not be as it really, but I wanted to strengthen the impression of perspective and depth.
04-15-2006, 10:27 AM
I continued has to paint the other characters
04-15-2006, 07:41 PM
Thank for comments mate
04-16-2006, 05:25 PM
Adding more characters
04-17-2006, 08:19 AM
Thank for comment mate
04-17-2006, 02:24 PM
I worked and refined far mountains, luminosity of the sun and the mist below, I am not on that it good render, the advices are welcome
04-18-2006, 11:07 AM
Thank for comments
04-18-2006, 11:44 AM
That really comes to be a very beautiful illustration... full of hoping... a great mood... very sensitive... nice and sweet work... (don't forget the propelers...:scream: )
04-18-2006, 07:44 PM
Thank for your nices comments lolo
04-18-2006, 09:28 PM
Ok three things, I still think that the perspective on the balloon is way off, and it seems way to flat for my taste, the cast shadow should me coming more towards us, and u have some lighting inconsistencies on the two male characters in the foreground, where they are both recieving highlights that are hidden sun light, may need to take a look at those these things again. Take care, luarent!! Will be again!
04-19-2006, 03:34 AM
Hi Laurent, Shaping up nicely so far! i think you need more sense of depth here. The left part looks to be on the same distance as the middle to right part. Try to go for darker tone in the foreground and lighter tone in the background. I think it will help immensely! The mountains look like waves a bit. Try to make them uneven. The nearest mountain could be higher than the mountain behind it for better effect. I'll be waiting to see how you flesh out the characters. (Suggestion: More details to the ones near the viewer)
04-19-2006, 04:18 PM
its getting better and better :)
are you goign to be adding aany variation to thte textures?
for example a boat built out of wooden planks whould never have every single one of them the same colour...thay all come from different trees and would have a little different colour...
just an idea :)
again...its looking better each time i pop in for a visit :)
04-20-2006, 08:23 AM
Thank for your constructives comments guys
BEELOW :Effectively I agree with you, the balloon must be worked again at the level of the luminosity. Concerning characters I do not think that it should be exposed more than it, I am going to add dtails to vetement in the coloring final
JEROMMO: I am going to darken the forground as you has me him advice. Concerning mountains I am have rework especially at the level of the depth because they are too flat for me
CYBERONE :It is a very good idea, I go rework the texture of the wood of the boat by adding slats of differentes color, then I am going to add details to the characters
04-20-2006, 08:48 AM
Looking good Laurent! nice colors!
04-20-2006, 05:15 PM
I think of having ended the coloring wip. I refined clouds, worked again mountain far off for more depth, on the advice of cyberone, I worked a little the texture of the wood of the boat. As exactly advised it to me jeromoo I darkened the foreground. Now I am going to finalize
you gotta do something nice with those clouds. all in all your piece is coming together very nice... very quickly.
04-20-2006, 05:48 PM
that looks heaps better! its subtle but it looks good :)
looking sweet :)
04-21-2006, 07:41 AM
Thank for uour comments mates
04-21-2006, 08:19 AM
hi . it is nice .watch mine and tell me your idea
04-21-2006, 03:56 PM
I have rework some elements, I tarnished a little helice on the advice of lemog, I revised a little the shadows and the relief on the balloon, and I added some elements as the flight of wild gooses
04-23-2006, 11:47 AM
Thank for your comment
04-24-2006, 11:32 AM
Some small adaptation and the addition of the moon
04-24-2006, 11:42 AM
this is looking really nice. i like the details too. like the birds that seem to add a sense of direction to the peice. i would maybe add some texture or variation to the airship. It looks very clean at the mo. keep up the good work.
04-24-2006, 02:07 PM
Here, a little story, but excuse me for the english
In a future can be not so far that it, an ecological disaster has destroyed the earth it that we know her.
Some people who survive met in tribe wandering in the sad land. Any traces of civilization and science disappeared. Only some rare patriarchs knew how to keep a little of knowledge Ancient. In spite of the ruin which covered now the earth, a legende let remain the hope. In the East far behind deserts, existed a fertile ground where the vegetation pushed in abundance, and where the water flowed of great torrents.
And so a tribe of the western lands build a machine for leading them towards this paradise. They used plans found in the ruins of the ancient people.
This morning, it is the big departure, all the tribe is united in front of the big cliff, the vessel is finished and, today has new journey begins.....
has new life begins....
a new life begins...
04-24-2006, 09:56 PM
I still think that u should fix the lighting on that shoulder, of that kid in the forground, the one with the bag over his shoulder. Where is that light coming from? It cannot be from the light in the background, because the bag blocks that light, fix that problem. Otherwise good job!
04-24-2006, 10:00 PM
Good luck man!
The morning atmosphere is well done!
04-25-2006, 01:47 PM
Beelow, yes you are right, I am going to modify it
riddick thank you mate
04-26-2006, 04:42 PM
Many thank mate
you have got such a strong composition here, all the elements help to slowly direct me into the fading sunlight where everything seems to be heading for in this epic story.
04-27-2006, 03:08 AM
Hi laurent, finished already? Congrats! Wow, the sun and the moon is really close to each other... that can only mean one thing... imminent eclipse! :D So they are preparing to take flight during or before the eclipse? It'll be nicer if the 3 figures to the far left is a little bigger to show better sense of depth.
04-27-2006, 08:22 AM
Nice work and good luck. If I would add anything, it would be to darken the silhouette of the mom on the left just a bit. It's a great shape. Good work!
04-27-2006, 02:26 PM
Hi! Very good the ship's design and system of starting. It's very
interesting. It seems to me you should add people in the ship. Let
somebody goes upstairs, and somebody looks out of board a ship. Good
04-27-2006, 09:46 PM
JEROMOO, yes the moon east can be a little meadows, but that can arrive
SIDEACHE: As one cannot poster final the image, I go can be to improve the luminosity of kid
ATRIS it is true I go can be to add characters on the boat,
MUthank you for your nice comments
04-28-2006, 11:55 AM
Finally, I still improved the image, like beelow said it to me, I removed the light on the shoulder of the kid on the left, and I have it a little dark on the council of sideache, finally, I added a character on the boat, and a crane as pointed out to me atris
04-28-2006, 02:25 PM
Hey, MDN, I didn't realikze you were so far through with this... wow! Nice work! It's looking really nice. Tons and tons of interesting detail, a veritable feast for the eyes. The only crit I can see - uh oh, are you still taking crits? It says Final Image... Well, apologies if I'm too late, my bad! - is that the heads of the 2 adults on the left seem small to me. They look to be about 8 heads tall or so... but maybe that was intentional too, I didn't get to read through everything you posted, my bad, sorry!
Anyhow, congrats for getting to the finish line. Best of luck to you and sorry for not posting earlier!
04-29-2006, 01:16 PM
WALRUS : Thank for your nices comments. Y ou have right, the proportions of the heads of the two characters on the left is a little bad, i changed this
04-29-2006, 01:37 PM
Really cool image and spot on the theme.
I especially like the lighting in this pic and you can watch it for a long time discovering new things.
One little thing though..
I can´t help but feeling that some of the woodareas on the ship are too smooth, makes it look like it´s made of plastic.
Other than that I have no crits, it´s an awesome painting!
04-29-2006, 02:29 PM
looking good, try to add mroe texture to everything nature, wood, metal, etc..
04-30-2006, 08:31 PM
NORBERG : Thank for your nice comments, yes, i perhaps reworked the texture of the boat, thank for crit
05-01-2006, 12:25 PM
Many guys said to me that it missed texture on the boat, I thus finally made a big work on this one, although I have post final image, but there is only the imbecile which does not change opinion
05-01-2006, 01:40 PM
omg that looks sooooo much better :)
it gave it alot of life...
remember....a painting is never finished :)
05-02-2006, 04:36 AM
looks great man, as walrus said, didnt get to see the whole progress, but as a whole its a very delicious image. good job man =)
05-02-2006, 09:32 AM

i see i missed so many things here
great work, very nice image:thumbsup:
05-04-2006, 01:57 AM
Wow, can't believe I missed this one, Laurent. Lovely image you've ended up with, the message is clear from the outset of what's going on. I love the design of the ship and its launching runners. And the sunset is kind of a nice contrast to the beginnings in the rest of the picture. (Unless it's sunrise.. in which case ignore that).
05-04-2006, 04:45 PM
SRULO: Thank for your nices comments
INDIVIDIUM, Thank mate
ZEPHYRI Thak for your kinds comments, yes, it's a sunrise, the journey begins

05-06-2006, 10:04 PM
This is an amazing work, good ideea and concept.
The depth, wich is so required in this contest, is very well expressed here... this really improves the overall mood of an image.
Lots of chances for a prize, in my opinion... I'm waiting this image to be shown on the winners list so I can save it officially on my desktop :)
05-07-2006, 01:56 PM
Thank for your nices comments, i hope your prevision will be good:thumbsup:
05-08-2006, 04:17 PM
You made a really clean thread with step by step rendering.
It's make me jealous with my thread wich look as garbage of old direction of works now
It's a pleasure to read the page of your constant work. I hope your precision and generousity on detail will be greated. Your result is really good.
05-08-2006, 08:12 PM
Thank for your nices comments mate
05-09-2006, 02:55 AM
looking great. i think the two characters in front of the sun could be darker. they wouldn't be brighter than their shadows right? really play on that silouette. it's beautiful.
really a gorgeous peace. congrats,
05-09-2006, 08:24 AM
Great composition and lightning effects, good luck with your entry; This is a great piece.
05-09-2006, 04:39 PM
ANZIBON: thank you for your pleasant comments. Concerning the two characters in the foreground, I think that I should not bore them more, it would risk to return the too strong contrast
SLICKGREEKGEO: thank you for your nices comments
05-10-2006, 05:29 PM
Many thank for the nices comments mate
05-14-2006, 03:16 PM

05-22-2006, 05:25 PM
Hey, I also think it turned out very well done.
It's a bit late to add up some critiques and all that but I just wanted to say that your picture could of used of some foreground elements and some lighter values of the characters.
Tres belle image! bonne chance!
05-22-2006, 06:49 PM
Wow greaat image, like a biblic history
05-23-2006, 06:15 AM

ILUSIONDIGITAL: Many thanks for your nices comments
05-23-2006, 08:21 AM
Your work is beautifully executed. My eye keeps being drawn to the birds away form the characters is this intentional?
