I've been waiting and waiting. Now that I'm freelance I have a lot more 'free' time. But what to do. I'm not the kinda guy that likes to do pleasent and happy hart warming pictures. I want a something on the dark side like a twilight zone episode or something.
ISN"T SIZE RELATIVE. Could something normal sized be considered small when compaired to something like a giant???!!!

I'm still thinking up idea's. These are my most straight forward ones meaning these are ones that I think fit the subject at hand.
But they aren't very dark or sexy or cool.
The one on the left are two kids sneaking into a rocket ship that's going to take off.
The other are kids with toy swords and other toy weapons running up a hill to fight some imaginary monsters.
I'm leaning towards the rocket ship one, but I'll give my self more time for ideas.

I'm still trying to interpret this one. I'm thinking of a young girl leading a buch a people out from a burning city.
Hmmm. I'm thinking she could be leading a army of zombie/robot/soldier humaniod creatures.

I'm wondering if I should still come up with ideas or just pick one. I want to show the graduate showing off his diploma while he's standing infrom of the evil school, lol. I'm trying to get something that will show off a character design and a environment design.

Well I did a more detialed sketch. Sitting here looking at it I'm getting more ideas. I think I should add a bunch of students in the background running around as if school just got out for the summer.
I plan on redoing the student to make him look cooler and more evil. I'm thinking of maybe putting in parents in the back ground. Like they all where stoped to pose for a photo.

Nice sketches darran, Looking to see more come from u good Luck!
Great interpretation. But I would think that the boy would be (evilly) happier than the Frankensteinish father-dude and therefore would be the one to have the maniacal smile. I mean, the boy should be excited to get started on his journey of death and destruction; instead he looks like he's been forced to take a thumbs-up picture.
As for your artwork. It is seriously killer (no pun intended)!

Great sketches. I like your idea, very unique. I look forward seeing what will be you final idea! :)

This is a small update but I think this is the final concept sketch. I tried adding color to this but it's hard to get it to work quickly. I'm planning on re drawing the whole thing so I can focus on the design of each of the characters and statues. Then I plan on coloring it.
beelow-thanks good luck to you to
JTD - thanks,I want to have a smirk on his face, kind of a smug proud look. Hopefully when I redesign him he'll read better.
enialadam - thanks.

Now that I've finnished my sketch I started on the Line Drawing. I'm rez'd up the image and painted white on area's I wanted to redraw. Everything I do is digital I have a Wacom Cintique 21UX it it's really great I love it. I'm using it to draw out everything. I'm modeling out light and shadow but I'm not doing gray values that fit a object into the overall values. Since I'm going to paint in color I can't have grey values that are hard to paint on. I guess you see what I mean as my work progresses.
One more thing the reason why I do the drawing without environment values is that I can't draw as well on grey values. I guess I'm just not used to yet or maybe I just draw on white better.

A detail showing my drawing.
I didn't have much time today to work on it, but I did manage to do a little bit. Sister...

Loving your Drawing Darran. The snapshot-style comp is great but looks a little lop-sided? also the mixture of hands is a little much above the certificate (although I'm sure this can be resolved in colour) perhaps the 'father' figure doesn't need both hands on the graduates' shoulders... maybe just the one on (our) left? it looks more like he's going to throttle him at the moment... although maybe thats not such a bad idea :D
Look forward to seeing your method for getting into colour..

I still haven't had any time to really sit down and work on this. I've only has a few short night this week, maybe next week I'll have a more open schedual.
Avatarist- yes, it is the idea or is it?!

I've got two of the statues drawn in and the scheming girl.

Whoa. Wicked! I am curious to see where you intend to draw the eye first. In the final concpet sketch, it feels like there are 2 halves to the piece... my eye naturally wants to go to the 3 faces on the right, but then, I also am compelled by the statue and the girl peeking ouf from behind it.... color will probably help to unify the piece more.
Can't wait to see how this one turns out!

Very keen observation. The girl hiding behind the statue is holding a small dagger this is the Evil Tree Acadamy after all (if you can read the diploma he's holding). I thought she was a good way to tie in the characters with the background and ad a bit of mystery/story to the image.
I'm strapped for time at the moment, I can't wait to get more time to work on this.
