Great arrow! Should clarify the scene and add to the backstory. Really like your ability to consistently create in a unique cool style.
(And Shakes is the best! He's everywhere, encouraging everyone...as are MT Cup and makaron for that matter.)

I'm not sure about tongue, it brings a different mood a little. Makes her death lilbit caricaturic... Just first feeling...

I know it's only a little detail, but I agree with komsa a bit-it moves away from the texturing/modelling style you've set..what about lotsa low polygon bumps instead?
..hate even to say anything at this stage, sorry!

Hi folks! I am going to be quite short now, ha ha
soapy, MT Cup, Gunilla, makaron - Thank you for cheering me up
komsa, shakes - I know exactly about your feeling friends! Me too was fighting with that. I am going to render final half resolution tonight and I will see how it looks all together. Shakes, that style is all right to me ´coz whole render doesn´t look lowpolygonal at all... it is something like mixture of high and low. I am afraiding about caricature mostly. Will see it... Thanx!

Hello friends!
Here is very quick test for final image. My main questions are brightness of it and mom´s tongue. Colors are subject to tweak within final postproduction. Will be happy with your comments, even if they make me sometimes bit confused, ha ha ha. Thank you :) Good night...

I think baby needs to be a bit brighter, he doesn't jump out at you, as he should. Right now you know he's supposed to be the focus, but you have to work at it. Overall, love the placement of the characters and the arrows really help tell the story.

05-18-2006, 03:08 AM
Just lovely! Looking spot on -and the feeling of depth is really apparent in the scene now -i dont get the feeling that the baby merges into the mother now. So so lovely!

(I sure do have a lot to learn from Grandmother Shakes...he believed in you through thick and thin. Fantastic to see the way you've realized your vision through engaging concept sketches to this lovely final image...watching artists of your calibere work makes particpating in a three month challenge exciting and educational -- thank you! Great work!)

Oweron,
:bounce:  :buttrock: :applause:
Glorious work, triumphantly composed.
If anything, the clouds may be too light a gray at the very top (and consequently flatten the background slightly). Maybe try the reverse, and place the darkest, most savage edge of the cloud at the top, then lighten them as they reach towards the grass and cave.
Otherwise, this is inspiring work. :buttrock:

Wohooo, good morning folks!
coochaki - Glad you like it that way, thanx!
shakes - Thank you Mr.! Hope everybody will hava something close to our CRT/LCD settings :)
melkao - I can´t live without WOOCK :buttrock: WOOCK :buttrock: WOOCK :buttrock: anymore, ha ha ha...
MT Cup - Nice feedback my friend... I know about lil´s desaturation. I will work on it for sure. Glad you like arrows... Thanx.
Selina42 - Thank you as well Selina! 42 is just 42 :scream: I don´t know how many times I did use that number within this image, ha ha ha...
oceanbluesky - Thank you... and com´on man, you know it is not finished yet:thumbsup:
ravioli_rancher - Thanx for feedback as well. I will work on that sky too. Keep watching rancher.
medunecer - Thank you my friend. Have your sketch ready! :applause:
3DDave - Looks like that crazy JPG compression make it looks like this. There is blur on one rain layer, but it is pretty separate from background... Thanx for point.
Now, I have pretty full day today, so I am going to start rendering full 4k size and leave my machine alone, uff (7 hrs should be enough).

There you go - having me all soft and sobbing again
This is going so well now... absolutely no crits from me, love this piece of yours!
atmosphere great, characters and posing also, compozition the same, brightness it's ok [from my monitor, of course] but, I must be honest and say it: don't like the tongue!, it's out of oveall style, concept, mood etc. it's like someone burst out laughing being at a funeral. [I really like you work man, hope to not be misunderstood]
cheers,

Great image. I like how your braches form the curve around the characters. What I like the most is that you can easily read the characters emotions from the image... and you dont need to read the description to see whats going on. If I can vote for your image I would gave it 5 stars.

05-18-2006, 06:19 PM
this image has such a great apeal to it! Is one of those images you look and you realy start imagining all the history behind and who were those characters and what would the little dragon do now, and stuff like that! Realy great!
tecnicaly speaking, I think some of the threes are having UV/Texturing problems, because in some parts of the trunks we can see a error regarding bump and color... like it was washed away or melting... anyway! its minor problems and I hope you can handle it! because your image is turning out realy great!

Late morning friends!
Gunilla - Glad to read that my sis' Thank You!
-BAM- - Nice feedback from you. Yes, tongue stuff... What I am going to do, is to create two versions - one bold with tongue and one poetic without it. Will see by actual feelings which one will be the one for final upload. Not really sure now ´coz I somehow like it both way
MilionMan - Thank you. Glad you feel it that way.
InTerceptoV - 5* - that sounds great. You probably will have chance in regular CGSgallery, ha ha ha. Thank you :applause:
Scied - Thank you for nice words. Yes, I will tweak those texture problems. They are all procedural shaders and might be, that some topology makes that effect. Hope I will found enough of those errors. Keep watching.
medunecer -
centurionit - Ha ha ha, lol, now the tongue is long... I think it is o.k. with nib proportions, so I want to keep it that size. Thank you my friend!
Squibbit - Thank you. Glad you stop and drop some nice words here :buttrock:

05-19-2006, 02:52 PM
Hi Oweron! Unfortunately I've missed a lot of the wip...but then it's more amazing when I see all this beautiful looking scenery in a great composition for the first time! I like the slight dof, muted colour scheme, and especially how the style of the background is perfectly consistent with the characters. Awesome trees!
The composition is perfect, no crits on that. Only minor thing is you can see a bit of texture stretching in the foreground, very minor though. Have you tried showing more of the eye of the baby, with a bit of contrast in it, to draw the audience there? Also the mouth expression looks a little more sulky than genuine sadness to me.
However, I instantly read the image on the first time I saw it. Everything's working together! Good luck!:)

makaron - Hiya Mona. Not really. I don´t want to show that kind of things. No stright shots, no blood, no... Tongue is just on border, ha ha ha.
burpy - Thanx for feedback dragon man! I know about texture problems, will see how can I fix it. I am really ready for last phase and don´t want to tweak things like neverending story... It is almost time to say enough, ha ha ha... Don´t get me wrong... I love this image as my baby, I love working and tweaking every single bit of it... It is just time for last stage  Keep watching and very thank you for your support.

Hello,
just some techno information about my jorney:
Software:
Softimage XSI 5 FND - whole modeling, rigging and texturing, main lighting and rendering.
Corel Photopaint 11 - basic texture corrections and light/saturation tweaks.
Adobe AfterEffects 6.5 STD - final effects such as extra 2D objects, rain, color tweaking and lighting.
3D Lights: Based on AmbientOcclusion illumination with some help of 3 point lights ( back light for enviroment, specular on tongue and eyes )
3D Shaders: XSI native shaders + DT Simbionts + vertex paint
Now, back to work. Cheers :)

LEAVING LEAF
I will remember that day forever.
I will remember those loud monsters,
our forest full of flying rods, sharp and quiet.
Maybe I woke up too late.
I know it could have been different, I know it.
I will remember my breathless guardian.
They might come back...

Joraj, from the beggining the models were promicing and ideas was original, i have to say something about your work: when i see someone doing great job i actually tell him that but not to end were i see lot of 3d artists falls into big mistake (may be me too) at finishing the image like lighting is not as good as his work or like textures is not as good as his models and so on, but with this piece at least its style was going on one direction of good job, the models + textures + lighting + complexity + Idea + Subject and name of image....

Oweron - a million thank-you's for your help this week! Your subregion tip saved my life! This image is absolutely stunning and you completely followed through -from your ace sketches -to the absolutely compelling final image! This is without a doubt one of my very favourite images from a challenge which has had some extremely strong entries- and i really, really love it!
Good luck my friend!

A leap above the competition in my minds eye Oweron... This is by far my favourite piece in this challenge... I was a silent observer here all along and I think that your approach to design and vibe in this piece has been absolutely outstanding!
Congratulations on a beautifully articulated story and good luck with the judging! I hope they see things the same way I do...

Man Juraj you have a great imagination!! Really like your sense of texture and coloring, both in this Challenge entry and in your portfolio piece, "Wannabe"...very subtle, pastel-like coloring...hard for most people (at least definitely me) to achieve, and you do it so expertly. Really inspiring. Saved both images to my favorites folder so I can come back and practice your cool look. Very much looking forward to seeing more of your work in future Challenges! It has been a lot of fun -- you know, I think of your comment about Shakes being such a good grandmother every single time I see his name! You really nailed something there too!
Hope you have a good summer! Cheers!
