Niiiiiiicccceeeeeee

I really like this rootman!

Par contre je trouve que les taches sur son dos sont un peu trop marquées je les verais un peu plus fondu dans la couleur de base a moins que se soit voulu

Keep it up the greatwork Gilles

About the stains on the back, they changed. Some colors are applied over them. The diffuse is a bit different now...
Now I'm testing some shaders in Maya. And I'm testing Turtle to see if it renders Displace better than Mental Ray...

Here is a quick sketch of my idea about the environnement...
The master of rootman should be on the left, near the tree and many rootman should be on the road and on the grass, waiting.
The mountain on the background should be more "rocky" and the land between the rootman and the mountains should be grass before the river and desert after...

You are right, maybe I should play with the depth...

But The more I see this picture, the more I don't like the angle of view. This is not as dynamic as I want it to be... I will sketch another view...

Thanks Alan. Sure the details are better. I did a huge render of him yesterday evening to see if all the map works well. It seems that some part of the bump have problems. I think Maxwell don't render GUV tiles as fine as Maya or MR can but no matter, I will repaint the part in the final composition...

About the dirt, I think I will add some dirt texture to him, or by doing another dirt pass composited

Really nice render
How many time to render this in maxwell ?

near 3 min. The new release is really faster than the beta version and gives less noise! That's cool !

About Maxwell, I already have rendered a huge image of my cabanon. A picture that Mental ray had never wanted to render. So I'm not afraid of that...

Thanks Mohammad. A bit dry ? You are probably right but at this time I don't know what to change. I will add a pass of specular, probably...

You are lucky to have Renderman. I didn't test it already. I think it must be cool to render displacement from Zbrush !
About Maxwell, it seems to render normal map correctly. But about displacement, I don't know...
I would have to compose with that. Maxwell seems to render huge scene with million of polygon which Mental ray can't. So I'm not afraid. And the night is htere to render, so I don't care if my scene takes 8 hours to render...
Let's see.
Thanks for comment Dimitris my friend !

Gunilla
03-24-2006, 10:21 AM
First test looks really good - so, the Normal maps rendered just fine then? Good news!
The coloring seems a bit flat compared to the earlier rendering, but I guess that will change when you find the proper lighting for Maxwell. Impressive results in such short time

Thanks Gunnie !
I think when the Rootman will be rendered with a part of the scene some things will changed. Global illumination will add some Nuances to him... But I still have to compose another passes to put him some specularity and maybe some reflexions.

Mouahah !
Yes there is something !
After the render was finished, I open it in photoshop.
I copy the picture in another layer and then I desaturate it.
Then a contrast and brithness to have great contrast between light and shadows.
Then I apply a gaussian blur to that layer to have some kind of cloud of white and black.
Then I put this layer in overlay or soft light...

gpepper

Ok, here is the base image:

http://gpepper.free.fr/cgtalk/lierre_base.jpg

First in Photoshop, I duplicate the base layer:

http://gpepper.free.fr/cgtalk/tut_light1.jpg

Then I desaturate it:

http://gpepper.free.fr/cgtalk/tut_light2.jpg

here is the result:

http://gpepper.free.fr/cgtalk/tut_light3.jpg

Then I put it a contrast and brithness:

http://gpepper.free.fr/cgtalk/tut_light4.jpg

the result:

http://gpepper.free.fr/cgtalk/tut_light5.jpg

then The Gaussian blur:

http://gpepper.free.fr/cgtalk/tut_light6.jpg

The result:

http://gpepper.free.fr/cgtalk/tut_light7.jpg

and then I put the up layer in "densité linéaire +", sorry I can't remember the word in english...

http://gpepper.free.fr/cgtalk/tut_light8.jpg

There we are !

You can apply the gaussian blur as strong as you want, it depends what sort of effect you want...
