Wow thanks for taking the time to explain that to me!!

I didn't know about the render size and texture size connection, very cool! I'll always keep that in mind!

coochaki - I'll see what other pose I can do for alien 1:)

Hynol - Thanks for your inputs! What do you mean by matching my output image size? Thanks for the texture, its very nice:thumbsup: Nice robot by the way!

I mean - check what is size of element on final rendering. If size is about 512x512, then make 1024x1024 texture - there is no need to make it biger - drawing nice texture take a lot of time and memory of your machine. It's ok to make textures bigger then you need, but not too big.

Hey guys.

I know I know, I keep changing the background, but I can't help it! The alien or moon city wasn't working for me, to much to do! I like the simple layout here and lighting, and has a focus as well:)

Well heres the story hehehe...

The girl is on an inner journey, the alien is her guide to the gate. The alien says if you want to past you must be pure at heart (good karma). The demons at the entrance are who will not let you past if you have more work to do in life (good deeds) and will take you to veries worlds of incarnations to learn your mistakes in a spirital mirror. When you are ready you may enter the gate of self-realization.

So this is the inner journey.

Hey guys:)

I haven't had much time the last week, but I should get more done soon.

Anyways here an update, not that much but something:)

I have some more ideas for the scene, it may be more or less different on the next update.

So what do you guys think so far?

Heres a start on a new character:)

He will be the guy that is with the girl, and the alien is just a helper.

C&C are welcome.

Hi Vedic,
I love your new theme.
I think I kind of prefer the overal lighting in the previous image to the purple in this one.
Or maybe tone down the level of purple - detracts from the characters?
Both are great though and I can't wait to see more!

EDIT: Actually, I like how the purple splits the scene into two areas of strong colour, so maybe just tone it down but keep the split of lighting colour across the image?
:applause:

shakes - thanks:) Yeah not only buzy with the challenge but also family life:)

medunecer - thanks man! Yeah the lighting is not final, I will work on the lighting more at the end.

Hey.:) Your scenes are looking really nice - nice poses, composition, and all that. I just think you need to tone down the shinyness on some materials, break up the textures some more, and play with the lighting some more - this might be just because you're not rendering high quality light atm though.

These things are distracting though. An example is the stairs on the left of the last image you've posted near the characters. The level of detail in the model and texture looks blurry, and the way its mapped over the stairs won't hold up in the final image unless it's really small.

So more detail all over if you have time! Keep it up though, nice composition in your shots and style on the characters.

Hey guys:)

Well I did it again, change and change again!

But this time I think its working. I will have the moon city in the background over to the right. To the left is the gate to the city. The cave to the front left is a path to the subway, which I plan to model soon. I still have more to do on the cave and other modeling and texturing like the big tree in the back by the gate and so on.

Hope you guys like it!

P.S. I'll try not to change anything, but just keep adding the details! Lol!!

shakes - thanks man! Well what can I say, I just have new ideas everyday! But I have to stay with one overall look and just add to that! The new character im not sure what to do with him, maybe not add him, well not now anyways:)

burpy - thanks for your inputs! Yeah my render settings are very low as for test render in mental ray:) The textures I will work on as well, most of them are just place holders to see what how its all coming together. So more details indeed!

thebest - hehehe....:D

glenn23 - thanks! yeah what a different rendering from the command line, I can now render what was the impossibe!! This is so cool! Now im going to really work on my scene adding all the little details and better textures as well as most of the texture now are just place holders:D And then I need to put a background landscape and redo the lighting, but thats later, first more details and the texture and then the lighting!

Womball
04-17-2006, 08:42 PM
This is really coming along nicely! The only thing I don't like is the mechnical guy's pose. His legs seem rotated to much to 90*. I think it should rather be pointing 45* at the viewer. Also the girls pose is rather stiff to. Also I think if the shadows were casted straight at the viewer it would be more effective than the current solution. Command lines are always fun! Does that allow even fancier effects to render faster?

Vedic-kings
04-17-2006, 09:01 PM
Womball - Thanks!

Yeah the alien's legs could use more work indeed:) I'll pose his legs better as well as the girl now that I can render the scene! And to tell you the truth the reason I keep changing the scene was because I couldn't render anything that is to far from the camrea, and also the texture which is why they are low rays is because I couldn't render them not even at 800 X 600 or smaller! So I thought well I need to redo my scene and did so what 5 times or so now!

The command line is a lifesaver!

The shadows are coming from the lamp, which the alien is holding which has an mental ray area light. I'll play around with the lighting some more:)

fancier effects to render faster using the command line? I'm not sure yet, I'll soon findout:)

Man I was about to give up the challenge do to the whole render issue!!

Command line rules!!

Hey guys:)

Not much of an update, but I started working with textures and bumpmap more and its starting to look better I think? Well I think im on the right track though:)

Womball
04-18-2006, 07:11 AM
This update looks much better! You do have some sharp shadows now. ALthough shadows are a pain to work with (I have spend so much time wrestling with them to work right). As for the girl you might want to try her also leaning on the pike listening to the guys advice. The pose is better than it was before. I'm going to try to dedicate a lot of time to posing since you can get a of expression in the scene that way. Actually a friend of mine said that you can turn off maya during the render and it will still continue. I'm not sure if this is only for batch rendering or not. However what speeds up the renders I think during the command line renders is that the program simply isn't using a ton of memory.

Vedic-kings
04-18-2006, 07:26 AM
Womball - thanks man:)

Im still playing around with the pose of the characters, right now I just need to work more on details. The shadows I will softing using an mental ray area light, but it takes long to render so I turned it off for now:) The leaning on the pike idea is a good one, ill try that. The comand line I use with maya close so I save lots of ram, yes! about 700mb!

This looks a lot better. Although you do have 2 floating feet! The girl's weight bearing foot is floating, the shadows give that away. The one foot of the mech guy is floating too, which makes it hard to tell if its behind the grounded foot, or closer to the rock.

How goes it? Lookin Good, your scene has really developed. The tunnel is a little hard to understand with these low res versions. I think a crazy silkish flag blowing in the wind would help with the flow of your characters hair, perhaps on the building? I will be happy when I get to see the full res version!

Extraordinary image. The fog is working as well as all other elements. Can't really offer much critique for this image, other than simple astonishment. Remarkable work. :applause: :buttrock:

Hi Josh! I like your image and the fog too; maybe you could try to put some ground fog starting just outside the gallery and less fog covering the buildings. I think that your cityscape is very good!

InTerceptoV
05-19-2006, 03:04 PM
I suppose you added constant fog/fluid? Maybe one test with falloff on y gradient to get the layered/ground fog? I like both of the images, without and with the fog but I think the combination of both would be the best solution.

Hi man...about FTP...does your image have the name designated by the the server info?

- is it in a zip file with same name?
- is it RGB or u changed it to CMYK?
- if all this is correct then hit again the "submit entry " and take the new username and password the server is giving...

have u tried all this?

Do't quit now...u ' have finished..

Dimitris. :)

Vedic-kings
05-26-2006, 12:10 AM

PS: the "if your image"..... is normal but you need to see a litttle thumbnail under the phrase

From the FAQ, this relates to your main character model:

Basically:

* 120 frames in an image sequence
* As 320x240 JPEGs, ~85% quality
* Features a turntable of your main model (180 degrees or 360 degrees, up to you)
* GI-lit (or similar)
* Untextured
* ZIP them up, post them via the Submit Turntable page.

first of all, I am sorry for possible grammer mistakes because of my poor english.

I saw this challenge too late but I looked all the pages and the design process. You are very talented and hardworking 3d artist but I think you are style kitsch. You use a lot of colors which effect each other badly. Yor final image didn't satisfy me but I liked very much your beginning concept and greyish renderings. There was a moonlike light (i think you remembered this detail from lotr (sauron's eyes ?) ) which could be fit your concept perfectly. You filled the scene with too much tower instead. Finally another mistake for me the little tunnel. This makes me thinks journey began before the image which you show us.

Anyway, I expect some tutorials from you because you know all the tricks and tools in 3d. keep imagining !
