This is my first scketch for the challenge. I still want to play with some more concepts but i like this one the most. I still have to think a lot about the coposition, characters and so(im just begining my own journey on this one ,ja )
The concept is about the last chance for humanity to survive the damage that we have made to our own planet. Having done so much damage to our selves we cannot travel anymore for long distances(searching for a new home), due to our weaknes and poor health. All our chances of finding a new place to live and ensure the subsistence of our own race are put together in one single space mission. The crew are only two exploration robots (still thinking on the second one)equiped specialy for finding a new planet where to live. All our hope for surviving is only on our own creations.

Great concept! I do have one question. This image looks a little aftermath(ish), would the street lights be working? Just a thought as I don't know full the story.

I really like this concept! I'm looking forward to updates.

Cool details like the flower in the robot's hand.:) Nice interaction with the robot, although to me it can look as though they are asking the robot for directions, rather than the robot being a part of their party. And the kids aren't wearing masks...they're gonna die!!!:scream:

The conept sketch is very nice. Apart from the forms, it explores light in a way that will certainly help you at the final render.

Hi guys , thank you for the inputs, well, i have to polish a lot and ive been thinking in more comps for the image and and the design of the second robot. The kids arent wearing the masks (that are in the floor) because they want to se better what would be their saviour and only chance to survive. (they want to see it, even if they get worse or die for not wearing the masks) there will be more people around the two robots (maybe some technics or something) maybe just trying to touch them with reverence or hope I want them to be in severe silence (is like the day before the launching). The robots, well, they are robots ando wont be doing much about the feelings of the humans. Thats why one of them will be "analyzing" the flower. Is like a paradox, we have to trust completely in something that doesent understand us at all

Silgrin and _RK_: Thanks for the input guys, well, i have to change some stuff on the composition (ill be scketching some more during the week to see if i come up with somo
other things) to tell all the story on one image. I dont want to make everithing too crowded. I want to translate some feeling at the end .Maybe just silence. i dont know. I think ill know this during the process, depending on how the image grows.

ok people. its been a good and productive day . I like the model so far. Still WIP because i feel it needs some more detail in some areas, but some of this will come with the texturing process. I think ill go to bed now. Ill keep posting some more updates tomorrow.

This is the design of the second robot. It will be more like a cargo robot, the tough guy of the mission if you wamt to. Ill start modeling this one tonight. So there will be some fresh updates for tomorrow

I love your concept, very good, classic and still a bit original, good robot modelling in the first one as well. i will say however, that the head of the robot is somewhat reminiscent of something i've seen before, but i just can't place it. maybe war of the worlds?
other than that, it looks great.

Hi dennis, thanks for the comments. You mean the front part of the second robot, the spider one, right? well i hadnt thought about that but now that you say that its true. .. It does look like the front part of the robots on war of worlds. Well, is not technially the head of the robot, is more like a light or something. The head would be the tiny thing in the back (if that can be called a head.) I think ill see this better when modelling., depending on how i see the bot, and if it keeps resembling them (now that you said so, i cannot take away of my mind those robots ), ill change a bit the design. I want the thing to be somenthing original . If you see something else please keep telling me. Comments are more than welcome

I was actually referring to the head of the first robot.. but know you mention it, the resembles at the front part of the second robot is there as well, allthough not nearly as much as i personally feels the first robot resembles the heads of the robots in war of the worlds. i hope i'm not causing you to do alot of extra work.. but it would be a shame, if the judges thought it was too close to that design and degraded it on that account if you follow me...`??

Mine is more like a camera with some kind of protection or something. I like it, but ill make some other heads to see if i find something that i like better.

Vedic kings hey man thank i notice that too. But im changing the desing (i made a mistake because with the current one, the wheels cant rotate freely), is suposed to work like an office chair. The wheels should be able to rotate to where ever they need to

Absolutely! I am glad you do. I am not one of those people who does not say anything when something is bothering them. If I have any crits, you will hear them. This update, I have no real complaints. I think You have a nice start on the texturing. I think I might want to see more ware and tear. Scratches and dirt and the like but I like the idea of every image being in distopia. I understand not everything has to be old and warn down to the point of looking like it is about to break.

Great robot design you have there! Nice modeling, too. All quads?

I do have one comment to make. Althought the textures seem to be coming along nicely, they still seem a little "plasticy," if you know what I mean. They don't look metallic enough. I don't know if it's the specularity that needs adjustment. Don't know. :shrug:

se7enthcin: Yes man, i think i have to break a little bit the hair line, it ill give a more natural lokk to the model, plus, i need to give some asymmetry to the head. That will be the next step with this one. still want to work a bit more on the texture. and the bumpmap, so i will use that to give it a more interesting look.

With the recent update and the distance. I believe the paint looks better than the previous update. I think I was having a problem with the bump. I think it may be a little bit too high. But very nice work. Keep it up! :bounce:

Amazing work! Sooooo stylish, thsi single character builds an extremely clear mood. If everything is similar, it will be an outstanding entry. Congrats!!

Btw, he reminds me that unpleasant four-handed Jedi bot from Star Wars 6. He looks rather grim and brutal. It can be challenging to give him so friendly and nice expression you probably plan... Looking forward your updates.

Silgrin: thanks for the comments, yeh, ill try to keep the mod fo the scne like that, a bit dark and aftermathish, lets see how it develops. As for the four armed robot, i havent seen the movie . My idea with this one was to give the two robots a really harsh look. like if they were war robots or something, and now we only relly on them to be saved. The only hope for us are these two machines that don even understand us (they are not AI by the way , just exploration robots with the mission of finding somewhere to go) the girl will be giving him a flower and he will be analyzing it. so he is not really friendly. He is just bot

thanks man , well , i still have to paint some of the small parts. The little lamps and the back part of the bot that needs extra detail. Finally il be moving to semthing else, maybe the ship, or maybe continuing with some of the characters (to much mechanical modeling for now, ja, i enjoy it a lot, but feel like modeling something more organic) I was thinking about the final look of the whole thing. I wanted to do it rainy to give more of a dramatic sense. I think i ll have to start setting up some shaders for that, if it goes that way. I think ill decide as it grows

Hey this is looking really good! Crits? errrr.... Well I can see straight edges on the leg joints by the body that could be smoothed out a bit to make them rounder, but as this is a wip I dare say you knocked it down an iteration to save on render time so it's just fine and I think you'll have a really good final comp with these guys!

Really nice worn textures, very good attention to detail -- especially appreciate your posting the texturing setup you've used. Always interesting to check out how other people approach similar problems. Might want to throw gobos on some of the lights you are using to cast uneven shadows across your models, even if they are only WIPs might serve to break up their specularity a bit.

Excellent work, looking forward to seeing more!

This really looks great! The modeling and texturing are fantastic! Your shaders could use some work though. The metal could be a tad bit more reflective I think, and the wheels are fading out color wise. The untextured version as such a strong presence, everything is clear.

It looks pretty good, although it still lacks specularity. Even worn things have slight specularity. And perhaps a darkening the diffuse the shader a tad.

Btw, everything's looking good so far. :thumbsup: I do have one crit. Something looks odd with the texturing on the wheels. Perhaps it has to do with the diffuse map. :shrug:

here is a quick and dirty comp in sepia of the characters over the BG still a lot to be done(gotta keep working on the mountains, sky and some props). I think ill be dumping the other robot as it wont really fit nicely on this composition, and i really didtn liked the other comp that much. Ill be experimenting with more views, but i like this one so far. Been busy with some stuff, i only hope i can finish

possible crits:...the road surface right at the bottom looks a bit pixelated..not at a high enough res(or at that angle may even need some filtering)..could also add some rubble & bits of trash to dirty up that area...maybe some puddles to reflect the scene.or just roughen up the geometrie of the ground.
but I'm just being picky...your doing great work

really looking forward to seeing your background for this..might even be nice to see some buildings receeding off into the distance.

You`ve changed the shot direction comparing to the initial sketch... Now it looks less dramatic and the robots are one of the background of another which makes it less clear. I liked the first idea more. Sorry you`ve got no feedback (I`m among the guilty, I know:scream::D:blush:) but with my access to the Net... :twisted::banghead:

Stefan, thanks for the crits. yes, im with you about the road texture, that will be corrected later on as this si just a quick render. ill be using some displacement here, and some new texture. I have some objects already done ,cans, news papers, little leaves, dirt stuff like that the give a more interesting look. I hadnt thought about the reflection stuff, that would be nice, thanks for the idea. As for the background is what im doing right now on my spare time.i Guess ill be doing some buildings ruined and so, if i have the time :D

On the first view i didnt had any space for the ship on the background(or at least not enough, on this one i have closer shot of the characters aswell. )that was the main reason for changing to this view...thanks for the inputs, really. melkao: No no, that wont be the final filter, that sepia filter was just for fun. the scen will be dark, but it will have color. no B/W

nemirc: She is giving a flower to the robot, But that model is a bit old, (is the same as the PS comp) the one that i have now has some facial expression.


Riddick: You mean on the bot? or in the scene in general. The picture as i view it will be quite dark , but it will have some color. Right now im working on the backgorund and some objects that will be around, that will give a more interesting feeling to the
hole thing

ok people only three days to go, Im nearly there, still have to render some objects for the background and some in the foreground (some dirt and stuff like that) and of course, the flower that the robot has on its hand. I like so far the ilumination and the colors of the image let me know what you people think. crits and coments are more than welcome (more than ever ;) )

Creo que para lo del asfalto en primer plano quedaria bien añadir algo de humo o vapor. La nave y el fondo si lo desenfocas quedara mas integrado todo. Los detalles de la cocacola y el periodico estan muy bien. La mano derecha del robot esta alineada con el cuerpo. Tambien me comentan por aki los compañeros que las poses de los modelos son muy rigidas. Creo que tiene razon. Piensa lo que le pasa por la cabeza a cada uno. El que esta cogido al robot no sabemos que esta haciendo. mirate el dibujo, espero que no te lie mas.

the background at top right could use something,some stars or clouds.just something more than empty space.

ok i have adde little touches here and there. its getting there. i think ill be uploading tonight, ill give my self some time to check out if everything is in order and then upload the final

Hi, nice scene:)

I think you need to re-arrange the scene. Theres to much going on in the background that seems to make the main focus (your characters) hard to see, if you know what I mean. If you could change the background alittle like move the big robot ovet to the left or right more . Cause you main robot and background robot mix together to much.

Also there is to much of gray in your scene that makes everything hard to make out. Maybe make the background a light color like blue in the sky, or a dark blue like its early morning, as the sun is rising.

hi have changed the sky a bit, giving it a blueish color as suggested, and i think it looks better. still color correcting some stuff, but i think this could be the final

No animals left, just us.
Due to our weakness and poor health we cannot travel long distances any more.
All our chances of finding a new place to live and ensure the subsistence of our own race are put together in one single space mission where the only crew of the ship is a robot. A left over of a past war, redesigned for the journey.

Our only hope for surviving is on our own creation. All bets are on a machine that doesent understand us, thus cannot represent us.

Hope is the only thing that is left to us, our destiny is no longer in our hands
