Anyway, this project is moving along handsomely.

Great look and great light on face. This character has appealed to me right from the start and I can see you've really hit it perfectly.

Makes a great image all by itself too!

Hey Dimitris friend how are you?
WoWwowoow, i'm impressed how this thread is going over 32 pages with this lovly work, i searched from page 1-5 i found all are replies and nothing added (you are so so popular here dude) then go throw your thread page by page and find out your great work, i used to use zbrush but unfortunatly i didn't get an exporter to max as a good file to use so i prefered not to use it in this challenge i know it is so compatiple with maya and max but it is easier for me to use it with maya, i'll search for a good exporter or a *.obj importer in max.

for this piece it is so crazy mate i like it too much, sorry for not writing any comments before, it is a matter of getting lost in all those threads.

and those small eyes makes him looks evil = scare away the enemy...
no fur = bold is nice... no combing
a big strong tail = can be used to drag him at, when he is about to run off...

hmmm... seems like I describe the perfect male here... hehe

..despite taking about 30 minutes to read through the thread, This is amazing. I'm trying to learn Xsi/zbrush workflow myself, figured you might be the best source for examples. That was cool how you grabbed the paint FX stuff and exported to polys to make the rope for the boat. Good thinking. My favorite is the bridge, I luv the style of the bridge. Obviously, Kick Ass Entry. Good Lucks.

hey dimitris,

it seems i haven't posted anything up here yet :argh:

but let's make it right heh!

I got a comment on the man with the lantern! a small tip on getting the clothes a bit better. I've been doing cloth-texturing for too many days
I hope you've put your uv's correct, or otherwise my comments are worthless. You're texture looks rather tiled so using a big brush you could just paint a light color and a dark color in some lines. Mostly folowing the folds, but that's not necessary. This would defenetly help the scarf that he's waring, which need it the most i think.

Not much crits on the creature accept the eyes look a bit funny. Doesn't seem he can see anything that's not right next to him. Gives a feeling like a guy that has no neck :argh:
but besides that it looks just great!
curious on the textures.

keep up dude

Hmmmmm, is it a pet??

OK, I remember "Planet of the Apes", they`ve been pets once in that world, but this one seems to be even more dangerous!

Apart from evil look, it also has some other, less obvious expression. A very interesting creature, whatever it is and whatever role will play in the final entry:twisted: Looking for more!

@ varma, thebest, shakes _ Thanks friends, i am happy u like him.

@ Nothingness _ thanks man..will try to experiment with your sugeestions...much appreciated.

@ Glenn23 _ Thanks man...with your skillz in realism..i am happy to hear all that. Mouth was given much about shape...i didn't want another Dino (Trex style mouth)..and at the same time i wanted him to look capable of doing harm...i hope it shows!

@ gpepper _ Thx monami. It's MR ...with Renderman i am a bit on hold until i have more time with it to play ...but i bet it would look better there..Displacement wise at least. :)

@ Zdepth __ Hey ...no problem...Concept Sketch is part mine..meaning the Lady and Dino and Dwarf guy on pet's back are from a drawing of Boris VALEJO AND JULIE BELL...but i mention that!....if u mean the all idea of concept...Lady near dock of a low tech port and the high tech city on background..Yes that 's mine...

@ rattlesnake, Womgoose __ thx friends...i don't think i could finish so fast this pet without ZB...heheh.

@ tuck _ Thx Thai Power..i am happy u like him. :)

@ scootermaya _ Thx man...i am planning to make many layers in order to build him a nice heavy shader...i want glossy areas and some non specular areas very close ...a Multi Layer sader is needed here i think...i may add saliva too ..if it shows...:wip:

@ Hooch __heeheh....

@ Staszek , vincent1, Elendil_le_Grand __ thx friends.

Dimi, dimi, dimi... your progressing is just superb. About your SSS experiments - well, SSS one looks more friendly because of there is no eye in first one, ha ha ha :wip: Now, seriously, I feel more life within blinn shaded one in this stage. SSS one looks more plastic to me. But, you´ve got strong eye and I am nearly sure you will master it. Keep going...

Nice to see the little guy with eyes and a tongue. Maybe a black or dark green tongue though? The red is just a bit too saturated for him, it seems. I could be wrong. The bright yellow eye works for me though. I think I like the first shader better. The color variations in his skin blend better. His skin seems to "fit" him better than the second shader. That's personal opinion though, as I can't see what the final look was that you had in your mind's eye. I defer to the master.

Womgoose
04-26-2006, 12:21 AM
I like certain areas of both shaders.
I came across the same problem and decided to use both.
The SSS was far too overpowering and rubbery on the pink pig and the blinn was flat and washed out.
I combined them both in PS and it seems to work quite well and gave me full control for when the lighting changed.

The same principle should work on this little guy as well ;)

Climax
04-26-2006, 02:07 AM

I think your misss should be clean with a nice specular map and a reflexion map. Maybe you used some ?

About the fast SSS: how fast is it actually? And is it the one inspired by rasamaya's fast SSS?

Would be nice if you could show us an update, showing the difference of rendering with and without the fast SSS.
So far i havn't took the time to examine it, so i used the fake SSS by dear stahlberg.

Hey I really dig your pet DimitrisLiatsos. It looks like a "ZBrush" quality model. There's only one thing that I noticed about it. I"m not sure of your intentions for the mouth whether it was meant to be a beak or more of a "fleshy" kind of mouth.
If it was meant to be a beak, then it kinda looks too soft in appearance. Beaks tend to be more rigid, smooth, and shiny.

Since it is yellowish in appearance, I guessed it was some type of beak.
Just a thougth.....Great model though
