Go Dimi!!

...Ok...except all that i had to do some minimal sculpting earlier 'cuase i don't need to load all that detailed Disp maps in the distance they will be shown ...so here is a first thought how they may look in the scene. I 've kept all 2K Disp maps of course 'cause i think after the challenge these guys diserve a scene of their own..hehehe..

C&C are welcomed.

@ Cgkoko ..... :bounce: ...heya Kosta!...i like the fact u are in this too after so long...u nut !

@ tuck Thanks friend...But i love more yours...Thai Power is killing me :bounce: .Have fun friend.

@ shakes ..thanks friend...but noo...it 's only one and then i just experimented with facial analogies in order to produce a different personality..( actually it wasn't needed...but i am having a blast with ZB today..lol).

@ elmasfeo ...U are SO right...Indeed  ...he is the guy who collects..the sleezy one...maybe i should give him thin lips but this could make him look a bit on bad guy side..eheheh... :D

@ Art2 ...ahhaha...sink the boat ...lol...don't give me ideas..please.. :D :argh: :D

@ azazel ...aaahahahah...I know uwho u mean...and i actually saw this drawing last night at my disk...hahahaha...well..indeed maybe subconciously i was thinking of him too... :scream:

hehe, i don't know who you mean, i meant a guy i know in 'real life' ;) ... But with that texture he reminds me of Michael Clarke Duncan a bit (or i was just watching The Island ;) ).

Ok, i may have a crit as well - the eyes. Both eyeballs, and the area just around the eyeballs could use some work, and some detail.

03-13-2006, 03:24 AM
I love it.. although I think the hat might need a little work.
you can see a repeating pattern and stretching at edge of the at. given the distance it's going to be looked at, I guess it's not a big issue..
But I still need it needs some wear and tear. A weather worn look would be real nice with that hat.

.

okay this looks great, rounding of the cheeks was a great move, and the texture rocks.

i was a bit worried when i saw your early versions of this , it looked just like some
uber-eagerly z-brushed dude , it had nuthin much else than big wrinkles here and there.

now it looks cool, keep at it

...Ok...no more detail on them ...but...they need clothes and bodies...so here is Fatso's cloth/body.

I will finish the other two men in the same way...i have to make a lot of stuff(city, beast , Lady, dwarf on beast , ship...yikes!) ...arghhh....oh well..i am having fun so ...

@ M477 ...thanks friend for your kind words....i try to be concise with the updates for two reasons..1) people can see the wips and stop me if i am doing something wrong, before it's too late.
2) ...less experienced artists maybe helped by some points in the workflow.
3)...simply ..it's on the rules too... :scream: .

Great work so far Dimi!

I know what you mean by the UV stretching. Looks most noticeable on the lower part of the toughman's shirt...right above his left hip. But I'm sure you'll fix that once you get your much needed rest. :)

Also, I personally think the toughman would look better with a wider brimmed hat. Just a suggestion.

Keep up the great work!

@ Climax .... ...Heya...hi my friend..i always see your pms in MSN ...and it's always 10 hours later...too much time difference...how are u man?

@ Jedi-Juice ...thanks friend..arghh ..today i've seen how big error is there with UV's ...will fix that...and experiment with hat too.. thx!

@ alancamara ...thanks friend...i think it will look better with some more time on it!..

@ monsitj, Zapan ...thanks my friends...About hat size..oh u are very right...but i was so sleepy ...heheheh...will fix it..it's has to be about double size i think..but i will check some references too.. :bounce: .

@ rattlesnake ...thx mate. Skin shader is pretty basic here...no specular maps ..not good bump mapping or SSS..i don't think it will be need in this scene though. I like very much these guys already so i will make a scene with them alone later ..

@ dmonk ...thx friend. Yup..i agree skin needs some more work (and the UV's on cloth aswell )

@ the best, maranello55 ..thx friends...:)

@ Womball ...thx friend yup cloth looks stretched..will fix that...about texture size on shirt...no don't think it's too big...my unkle is a fisherman in his island and he has a shirt like this...it has big knots ..and it's heavy to wear..lol...but i will think on it..maybe it needs something more...

@ makaron ....nyaaark ...u want something better?...i take orders! nyaaark...yoinks !:scream:

@ se7enthcin .... Thx..that is why i didn't answer directly to u in your last comment (about muscle show too much in tshirt)..i wantet u to see it with textures on...do ya think it stll needs to smooth muscle definition? :)

@ Elendil le Grand ...thanks my friend.

@ gpepper ...Masta!...thx...will need to check again on your tuts about SSS in Maya i think...the funny thing is that i 've sorten this out faster in XSI..lol....but now this is all shaded in Maya so...runs to check gppeper's thread...wooossshhh! :scream:

Hey Dimi , great update ... again
I had a thought about the passage between 2 civilizations ... And even if it's a subtle meaning , I'm afraid that the spectator will miss it ... I don't know what you have planned on the city background but Maybe you could illustrate the 2 civilizations on the bridge , making each side differents ... by architecture , or ornements , ... maybe put some more importance to that bridge ...

.... well just some morning thoughts ... NYARK !

Looking for more mate !

Dimitris, this is not only about nice characters... I see wonderful architectural experience too. Might be one tought about bridge construction. I am not architect at all, but I think you need something to protect that arc middle part. Looks not very compact to me, like you mixed two bridges into one. Might be I´ve got a bad day, ha ha ha...

Very nice! I love the space in this. The eye can travel straight through the image up to the moon. I agree with Oweron about the bridge. Maybe an expansion of your support-suspension system that you have on the sides might help (but it might get it dangerously close to Calatrava style )

@ the best ..thanks friend... :)

@ Zapan..Nyaark Yoinker Nut Frenchie ...heya..thanks..u are right..i was thinking of something more simple (just a stone ark bridge there)...but i neede to put a model there to see how this all work together...from what u and a-papantoniou also said..(kalatrave fear..ahahahhaahah) ...u are right..it needs a lot of though there...iit needs to be simple thoughi think...'cuase it is easy to destroy the all composition with wrong bridge there...we will see..Thanks friends for the comments on that

@ loverdose ..thx ..i hope...'cause usually my composition sucks.. :D :D

@ ecura ...glad u like them friend...i just wish i had some more time for the challenge... :banghead: ..too much work these days...

@ Oweron ...ahhaha..don't worry friend u are ok. I just made a fast design on it to see how it works on composition...my first interest is to make the bridge balancing the image..and less to be technologically correct..but i still have some thoughts...it will take a bit i think to figure this out...Thanks for dropping by friend. :)

I like it a lot except these details :

1. The pants on the guy on the right(don't like the color)

2. That thing around his left shoulder(for the guy on the left)

3. That litle pocket on the guy on the left(on the left side of his stomach) does not look good...

4. The shirt on the guy on the right where it meets the pants , there should have more volume...Like this it is very flat...

5. The guy on the left has his eyes up...Looks kinda interested by the thing that got the guy on the right very concentrated and kinda prepared for battle...It will be better if he looks in the guy on the left or in the thing that the guy one left looks at...

6. Don't like their fingers.I think human-look hands with lot of veins will look better...

7. The clothes on the guy on the left are too clean...

8. The guy on the left has very strange shape between stomach and legs...

If i did not like this i would not boder to write this stuff.Hope i helped a litle and hope i did not sound arogant...

Good luck

Papa Dimi....been a while since I've been here, sorry!

This is all looking great...I love the setting, the dock and the bridge in the background is wonderfully, deeply mysterious and I can't wait to see it all 'atmospheried' up. I have my fingers crossed for you as a winner...yes indeedy...much hopes from little clippy here.

Only one crit...the arms on the taller guy seem far too short...when I stand up and put my arms down they reach to mid thigh. This guy's arms seem to reach to his hips. Also the shorter guy's mouth looks as though it would look a bit better a bit higher up. I hope you don't mind me ripping apart your stuff mercilessly, it's fantastic and these are the only things I can find wrong with them, it's coming along fantastically! θαυματοποιός !

@ Stefan Stavrev __ thanks friend for giving so much time to crit. Much appreciated.

Pants color ...don't givit too much thought ..except Tough guy the other twoo u will see from waist up.
That thing is rope...i kinda like it..
Little pocket..yup u are right about that..i made it kinda sloppy...i will make him a descent pocket there.
Shirt of tough guy..yup maybe u are right...maybe more volume should be there...will check on it.
Eyes...lost u there...i just made them look how their personality should look...they don't look any particular thing..i just made a frame to show them..
Human like hands..?..nooo...veins?..why ?...they won't show in final image..why give it show much detail if it won't show?.
Clothes of Fatso are clean..yes...'cuase he is the intellect one...the money keeper ..not the worker.
Thanks for comments friend.

@ makaron ___ Yes Mona..they are waiting for ya...:)

@ shakes __ thanks friend..i really hope the different personality comes out...that was my effort in this..there wasn't any really need for final image to spent so much time on them...it was more a fast study. Glad u like them.

@ Gunilla __ Yup third one arrived too..thanks lady! :)

Thanks for noticing this. Love ya.

@ Shahadp __ thanks...but i... i will make them too! i try to have more free time for beast and Lady Princess...extra detail and work time will be devoted to them.

I believe you mentioned earlier that the bridge is the divider between the two worlds. If that's still the case, then yes, I'd go without the wires. It'll give it more of a low-tech/hi-tech combined feeling that I think you're trying to convey.

M477
03-21-2006, 02:18 PM
I don't know I think I like the wires more (my bad), the bridge seems more interesting with them included. It also looks more structurally sound as it has that design curve that only suspension bridges seem to have. But I'm sure when it all comes together whichever way you go it'll work, it'll come down to personal preference in the end and it's best to avoid 'what if's :)

Climax
03-21-2006, 05:00 PM
I like the wireless bridge, though it looks kind of impossible, I mean: Wooden, with no pilars nor wires, that's what make it fascinating to me, but all depends in the overall environment, such extrange bridge with some dense fog for example, could create a misterious magical touch, by the other side You will always find the guy who says "what? that structure is imposible, you know nothing of architectural design and shouldn't even use a computer" hahahaha, well you know what I mean:scream::)

Hey file!!

nice to see you again. Hopefully this time you will win something (finally). :) Anyway, I don't know if it's been said before, but just like in your last contest, I feel that your composition is not very good. In both works, the horizon line is DEAD center. Which as most know, this is a big no no. There are very few perspectives to give it more of a dynamic feel. I believe that if you rearrange your layout and pick a better camera angle, it will have a much more powerful impact. You are an amazing artist and I wish that you were able to show your work better. I'm a huge fan of your work, keep it up!

..Bridge Shading...Make note that the same Ambient Oclussion Node is attached to every shader's Ambient.

But Dimitris, why so many joints on so unneeded positions.I am not sayin it is wrong, but i see for the first time this kind of rig.U r so much more experienced then me so if u want to give more info on the rig i would be glad to learn it and start makin rigs like u...

By the way why don't u use FULL BODY IK ?

@ stavrevstefan ..clouds?...clouds here are just a backdrop image...i don't know yet how i will do clouds in final image..will see. Joints in unneeded positions?...actually not unneeded at all...that way u have less area controlled by each joint and so u have much more control in skinning..and faster..:) About full Body IK...din't think of that at the moment...should try that ..thx!

@ se7enthcin ..yup i am...but also XSI and Zbrush also sometime now...:bounce:  :bounce:

Hey Dimi!

Ohhhh! you work with Zbrush too! What's up everybody uses it.I think it is good to test it some day but your modeling ability is really good and I am sure you do'nt need it.Models lose their originality and the topography of the model won't be consistent with the model. So for displacements and scratches... many faces may be used to show it.besides; I am afraid that these lots of faces while simulating by render engine will be so slow.and when we want to animate sth other simulations like cloth and dynamic ...will be slow too.
Anyway, wish you luck my ciggarrette freind.

@ adel3d ...Hi my friend...yup me too...some time now about 6-8 months..can't remember..heheh. Thanks for the kind words...oh don't worry if u plan to go to animation with a model that will be worked in ZB u just have to take care some things first...then it's ok...if u model a face it's ok again 'cuase u can use a wrap Low Poly Drive ...or u can use the original model and put the Displ on that comes from ZB...slow on render?..no...not so much. And after all it's fun. Thanks my friend.
