Im going to need a little time to think about this one.

Okay so here is my first concept sketch for the wip.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c359/papalatistudios/Evictedweb.jpg
I have already come up with a working title. "EVICTED"
This is going to be the most complex thing Ive done to date. (compositing and such)
Im definitley going for the emotional impact in this one. I dont want to give too much
away yet. So your just going to have to see it unfold.
Hope to get it done in time.
I will slowly pull this concept together. Im having trouble getting Painter to run.

Okay here is a rough comp of the concept.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c359/papalatistudios/Evicted2.jpg
However the more I work on it the more I dont like it. LOL
I thought it would be cool to show people having to leave earth because of a cataclysmic event such as a meteor or something. I wanted to show the sadness of having to leave, but at the same time I wanted to show that they were about to embark on a journey for a new home for humanity.
Theres going to be more ships in the picture showing that a lot of people got off but not everyone.
CC is welcomed.

Different Concept Sketch....

I was thinking maybe there is this warrior who must surpass this mighty army guarding the fortress.

Okay Im kinda liking this one. I changed my mind about the grand army because I didnt want to try to come up with some kind of crazy way of modeling that or coming up with some trick. Plus I thought that the idea of a maze may seem daughnting to the character. Yet he stands brave against the ever distant obstacle ahead of him.

The last one with the maze is cool, and I'm sure you will have no trouble flushing it out to a great composition. (I'm just guessing that your 3D skills are on par with your drawing skills you have shown. Me, my 3D had better be a WHOLE lot better then my drawing skills because I suck at the drawing, but i digress...)
I think your space idea is a little bit more original. It could encompass both going somewhere new and leaving something behind in the same composition. I think it will be tricky, but if you can pull it off it could be breathtaking.
Perhaps flush both ideas a bit further before you give up on either?
Just my $.02

Oh yea, check how you are adding stuff. I don't think you are submitting the right way. Are you uploading with the contest form? or posting links here?
I'm new to all this so I could be wrong, but I think you need to upload with the form to get credit for uploading your concepts.
Cheers and good luck to you.

Never done a contest before.
I was just posting the tag in the link.
These are just concepts and not my final one yet.

I think I am having trouble getting my posts to post. I had another post but I don't see it here!
Basically, I was saying I think the space one is a better idea because I think it is more original. Perhaps work more on both before you give up on the space one. I like that it could show leaving something AND going somewhere.
Good luck!

Okay yeah I think I will try working on it some more, I was just having trouble trying to distinguish between the reflections and the port.

Hey Patrick
I must say that I really like the maze idea:thumbsup:  You could have obstacles/dangers strewn throughout the maze . This concept really emphasized the journey ahead. Good luck with this.

I thought about adding some additional perils. Such as dragons or something that flies over and some fireballs shoot back and forth.

Working on the character and his costume.
A color comp is on its way.

Hi,
just a simple thought... maybe you could place some weird looking creatures over the labyrinth... they could have some sort of controling function... the guy with the wrong face gets "zapped" :)

Couldnt sleep so I started on a rough color comp for the character.
I feel that the character is teetering on the edge between a man or a woman.
CC would be helpful.

Thanks Sonic-X. I'll try to get some more done today if I can. Juggling school and contests has never really been one of my strong points.

Okay I decided to ditch the Dune-like still suit from the previous sketch. I liked it, but it didn't fit in this environment. So I went with this type of number. The sword of course is inspired by the one and only Cloud from FFVII. Of course I threw my own special twist on it.
CC is greatly welcomed.

Hey pal,
nice progress with your sketches!!! I like the dune character ;-) But for sure this depends on my personal affectation :D Great work... ...keep going!!!

Thanks uni,
I liked the dune-like suit as well, but he looked very prince-ish with it and I really decided I wanted him to have this warrior quality about him. So that is where he is now, I think.
