CGTalk - 4.5 proxy question

Using the CPS proxy mode you can easily mirror the smooth mesh as an instance and still use the halved proxy to edit....good for doing heads....how do you set this up using the proxy mesh in 4.5?

i know how to do it....but i would like to somehow get rid of the effect of the seam being so sharp
