Hi Shake! Interesting concept sketch!
Can't wait to see the progress! Good luck!
Very good sketch Mr. sh@ke..
Love the little guy near the floor waving this fella of.
It's a mother, father, son-pic, right?
I know it's an early stage but don't forget about an emotion on the sons face
Looking strong .... again..... :)
03-01-2006, 07:44 AM
jsn - thank u,i'll do more soon.:)
michael - yeah ,hehe no problem~i'll focus on the emotion/expression of the main character~maybe i'll change him into a child, yeah~ur right, his parents are seeing him off, infact i wanna make the whole villagers seeing him off.havent really thought much of the story though~:scream:thanks again for the comment:)

03-01-2006, 07:59 AM
great composition man , i love the idea!
03-01-2006, 08:14 AM
10 min ?#!? o_O Oh man, thats rather fast :buttrock:
The sketch reminds me indeed of a begining journey, similar to this really epic RPGs where
a young character leaves the hometown for his big adventure.
03-01-2006, 08:18 AM
Awesome sketch!
03-01-2006, 08:26 AM

03-01-2006, 08:42 AM
Morning Michael! *bounces* That sketch is awesome as ever! I always have a hard time reading that they're 10 minutes - I'd have spent over an hour on something like that hehe. You are the master with a pencil
03-01-2006, 08:54 AM
Cool sketch so far, cant wait to see more,
you are really a quick drawer haha
it pressured me:)
03-01-2006, 08:59 AM

03-01-2006, 09:02 AM
hey man, love this sketch,
it looks like there is a great story behind this.
I love the cloths designs on the front characters really much.
to me this looks like it could be a winning entry if u manage to finnish it off nicely! :p
and its even one of your earlier sketches...
well it can only get better now... so , keep drawing :P!
cheers Kam. :bounce:
03-01-2006, 09:09 AM
Good sketch. Simple concept that reflects exactly that a journey begins... nice composition, can support a lot of interesting details like tha people in the background... and also good proportions of the set in relation with the characters. Me likes it
yaay! sh@ke it baby! hehe i always enjoy your 10 minute - in - between - work - sketches :D
03-01-2006, 10:55 AM
Nice sketch - Looks very promising. Look forward to seeing where you take it...
03-01-2006, 11:16 AM
Looking good Mike, but be carefull that it doesn't look to much like your spectacular entry.
Of course there's a whole different theme going on here, I can see that (wich looks like a pretty solid concept I must say), but the whole setting does kinda reminds me of your spectacular entry.
Of course this is just an early sketch and a lot can be done with coloring it, just wanted to point that out to you.
I really like that idea you had of changing that guy into a small brave boy, it would be like those classic RPG's where a boy is the chosen one to save the planet or something, really like that idea!!!
03-01-2006, 11:41 AM
Your concept his really great, really feeling of deep. I will follow your thread with attention , it's sure. Good luck !
03-01-2006, 11:49 AM

03-01-2006, 07:48 PM
Nice job on your first sketch Michael! Definitely works perfectly for this challenge. Awesome camera angle and the characters emotion should be easy to pull off. Looking forward to your coloring if you decide to stick with this sketch.

03-02-2006, 05:57 AM

here's another one, spend another 10 minutes just now to sketch this out,i played alil bit on the composition, will see how thing goes~i'll keep the 1st one coz i might come back to that.
Didn't think you could top that first sketch, but I guess you easily can..
This one's better I think, walking towards the viewer and still going for the path he'll follow.
Very nice composition.. impressed me again. Now you stop that will ya! :D
03-02-2006, 07:26 AM
Good luck for this new challenge. I like your concept very good draw

awesome! i love the new sketch , definatly the best out of the 2!
Keep it up dude
03-02-2006, 07:32 AM
Your sketch is really amazing. So many beautiful details in it.
The only suggestion I would make is to maybe have the boy who is setting off on his journey a little more towards the foreground. I mean, it's still pretty obvious that he's the main character in the scene, but it might make the image a little more dramatic.
03-02-2006, 07:42 AM

very impresisve for a 10 minute scribble :)
I like both drawings a lot
03-02-2006, 10:30 AM
03-02-2006, 10:44 AM
Hey michael. Very good sketch as well but I think I like the composition of the first one more. I like that you have in the foreground the characters that the main character is saying goodbye, and you cant see their faces, and also the viewer is able to see where the main character is heading towards to. Plus, I find the angle of view more dramatic!! Keep it up
03-02-2006, 11:06 AM
great concept sketches. you are very fast!! 10min to do this nice sketch.
Good luck for the contest, i'm awaiting to see more progress.
03-02-2006, 11:50 AM
On one hand I really liked the first sketch with it's busy city, a young boy/man setting out on an adventure into the city and beyond into the wild that was visible on the horizon. On the other hand, the second sketch is a more rustic version, country boy setting off to discover something (himself maybe heh) and they are both wonderfull... Can't really choose  (although to be honest I'm leaning more towards the first since you have a wide range of scenery, city, forest, mountains and I'm a sucker for cityscapes ^^).
Anyway, I'm subscribing since I want to see where you take it. Can't wait for the next sketch :)
03-02-2006, 01:12 PM
Spot on man, I really like this second sketch.
Personally I like this composition better then the first one, to have a front view of the main character kinda gives the feeling your going with him and leaving the townspeople behind instead of staying behind and watch him leave, know what I mean?
03-02-2006, 01:19 PM
Your pencil work is quite beautiful. Have you considered increasing the scale of the main character to draw focus?
I look at the image and question whether your focus is where the main character is leaving, the main character himself, or the destination he is headed to (which is not visible)?
I don't agree with zachlost about your focus. The contest is about the beginning of the journey, therefore no destination is required to be revealed. The contest is about the journey, which is multidimensional. A simple character drawing would just seem shallow and wouldn't encompass what this contest is about.
I love the sense of scale in your drawings! You have great world-building skills in which I can explore lots of nooks and crannies. I wish I had my own personal awning!
03-02-2006, 05:21 PM
cool sketch again
love ur pencil work
but i prefer the 1st one more haha
waiting for more:)
03-02-2006, 05:25 PM
Hello Michael, I'm not surprised to see you here. ;)
Just when I'm only mulling it over and thinking whether I'd MAKE the time and might enter this time round, you are already here with two sketches. As always, they look great so far!
But as you know, I'm useless at just getting on and doing things.
Keep up the good work...and best of luck! :D
03-02-2006, 09:19 PM
Both sketches are looking great :) is it there a chance you are giving free drawing lessons in your spare time ?
03-02-2006, 09:24 PM
Great start. This is really awesome sketh. I Wish you luck on your journey ;)
you appear to be a very fast, very skilled sketcher! wow, is all I can say...wow.
03-03-2006, 04:36 AM
Stefan_Morrell - thanks alot stefan:)glad u like both of them~
ThalitaDol - thanks mate
Loris_ - yeah~thats what i thought too~personally i like the 1st composition as well and at the same time, the 2nd sketch has its aesthetic and the a certain aspect to it,i'll try to develope more and will see how it goes from there.
budji - thanks alot,i wish the same goes to u:)
urgaffel - haha thanks mate~yeah,i get what u mean ,thats how i feel aswell, cant really choose from the 2.lke i mentioned above~will try to come up with another composition.
Rudeone - thanks rudy~u have a point there, perhaps i could make the characters position similar like the one on the 2nd sketch and the background of the 1st.couldnt really decide now,i'll skecth up another one later.hopefully i could get going with the colors on the weekends
zachlost - thanks for the suggestion mate~yeah~well actually i was trying to potray the character with an emotion,i'd make focus on the main character and with a soft defocus on the sub forground characters to create the contrast between them,on the other hand, the expression on the sub characters could also play a role in the story itself.so i thought the increasing of the scale or not wouldnt make much of a different, however,i'll take note of what u have mentioned.thanks for the comment my friend.:scream:
JTD - thanks for pointing that out mate, like i have replied for rudy's post,i might play around with both the sketches to enhance the composition:)
michael chang - thanks bro,i might base on the background for the 1st one but make alil changes on the position of the characters.looking forward to urs too

03-03-2006, 06:50 AM
Hey there, Mike. Wishing you all the best for this challenge and have fun!
03-03-2006, 07:28 AM
PSych - thanks alot~seems like many go for the 1st.:scream:
jerome - hey there~thanks alot friend, are u not joining this?i do hope u fit in sometime for this :)
03-03-2006, 07:57 AM
here's another pencil sketch i did just while ago, took bout 15 minutes on this~
03-03-2006, 08:21 AM
You are something else man!. Fantistic Sketches. I like this one bettter then the second one, but I still prefer the first. You are capable of transmitting a whole idea with only a few pencil lines. Keep it up.
03-03-2006, 09:24 AM
another 10 minutes sketch~
03-03-2006, 10:01 AM
Again, two great sketches :) What if you combined the epic scope of no.3 with the character from no.4? No.3 feels more epic but the character in no.4 feels more vurnerable (since he looks younger duh :)) so they might work well together?
03-03-2006, 10:51 AM
urgaffel - thanks for the comment my friend~after looking back at those sketches~i seem to prefer the 1st one most~tried combining the 2 together just now but it looks almost like the 4th.just a minor difference in comparison.i'll go with the 1st composition with that particular angle but i'll play around with the elements on the background as well as the design of the characters:)
03-03-2006, 11:14 AM
oh this one is wonderful, i like it already mate, i just love the sketchy look of stuff, like this one. im pretty sure ull handle it well from here onwards...:). all the best.
03-03-2006, 11:16 AM
I really like your first sketch the best I think. Is he heading up the mountain? Could you tell us a little about the story?
Beautiful line art!
03-03-2006, 11:17 AM
love your line work.
03-03-2006, 11:18 AM
Love the lines. Beautiful! I like the epic scale of the detail in the background.
03-03-2006, 01:42 PM
Thus far I prefer either 1 or 4 best, I cant decided. The reason for this is because the character is nearer in the foreground, so appearing larger - which is better in this case, imo. :)
03-03-2006, 01:48 PM
Wheee *jumps on Michael* I am in love with this last sketch. I don't know why, theres just something in it that really touches me. You have so much talent my friend :D and very humble too. Checking back soon!
03-03-2006, 01:49 PM
Hey sh@ke! That looks awsome! I like the second last one the most, thought. The one where you can see the traveller say goodbye to his family (I presume...). It has as a good mood, and so far i really love your composition! Keep 'em comming!!
I just hope I can get a good idea for my post soon... Though I don't think I'm gonna pose much of a thread to your skills :) ...
03-03-2006, 05:32 PM
Good luck, friend! Nice concept, very similar as in spectacular, continue in story.
03-03-2006, 05:43 PM
Great Drawing Sh@ke!
My only suggestion is to push or explore tha shapes in the characters a bit more. Right now they are a bit generic.
And watch out for the perspective. Everything is leaning a bit to the left. just tilt the left side in a bit and you will be good to go. You could probably do that in Photoshop or similar.
Also the main character is out of perspective.
Woops I just noticed you have two last drawings, I have been talking about the one where the boy is alone. In the other one the perspective has the opposite problem. The left side is leaning into fram a bit too much. I would also suggest moving the man and the boy to the left to frame them better. Right noe the are a tanget with the buildibgs directly behind them.
All that said, I really like where this is going.
Best of luck!
03-03-2006, 07:22 PM
Great dense of depth — and is only a sketch! I like what I see... can't wait to see you play with atmospherics and making that background come to life. Keep it up!
03-03-2006, 07:46 PM
Man, I love your lineart sketches. It's so clean and full of details :) Welcome back man. Hope you got another winner here :)
03-03-2006, 09:30 PM
this one looks even better! man i so envy your sketching style ...its so beautifully clean and precise...
03-04-2006, 12:44 PM
wow! great work i like it all. Good luck in the challenges.
03-04-2006, 02:27 PM
Really good the last one, the compostion is really ok. At first I looked at the boy, after the parents, and at last I drew with eyes the way he will make ( stairway/bridges ).
So this one is easy reading for sure. I 'm impatient to see your colors.
03-04-2006, 04:29 PM
I really love your sketches! :) They tell epic stories for sure.. Eager to see what you will show us next! Have fun!
03-04-2006, 06:55 PM
Wow Micheal! :scream: I've been checking out your artwork more since I found your anatomythread, and I'm really to admire your style! Every time again you seem to want to go up in the sky (when talking about the design of your elements ;) ), and you give it a very 'pittoresk' feeling every time again! I've been thinking about compositions like the one of you (as painting those little details and place far in the background that would be awesome to 'just be there', is just 100% fun!), but I didn't find a way to intergrate such a concept with the team. But you seem to have find a nice way either!
All the best luck! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread! :)
03-04-2006, 07:13 PM
Great updates mate! I prefer your 3th sketch, the little dude giving the traveler a gift to take with him just works really well IMO, I think you nailed it with this one.
looking sexy mang. keep it comming.
03-05-2006, 10:43 AM
goodmorning Michael :D the sketches are amazing . i like 1 and 4 the most. the last one with the boy character is really great but is seams to me it lacks the excitment on starting the journey. Maybe a more dynamic pose on the boy and an excitment for the journey or a sadness and worrying looking att his parents?
03-06-2006, 03:14 AM
thanks alot guys~have been away on the weekends and i was amazed by the overwhelmed replies~was unable to update on the sketches since i was working on the weekends but i'll try to work it out base on the comments u guys have mentioned.thought of adding a creature for the main character,a phoenix perhaps as her guide and transport for his journey.
koryh - thanks for the comments on the perspective probs and all~those were only sketches of how the overall would be like, the composition havent been finalized,so no worries :)i'd probably come up with a new one later.thanks again.the comments are very much appreciated
rudeone,Zycho,Xeophex,Agamemnwn,DeeVad,Dutchman - thanks alot guys~i actually prefered the 1st compo but i'll try not to make their back face at the camera, will probably tilt alil bit on the angles and try to remain the emotion between the little dude and the main character
Slav,FrozZT,juniorlucky,calisto,ahbeejieh,cLos71,Elsie,erilaz,neubius,madalaine and waheed - thank everyone of u for the supportive comments~its greatly appreciated, stay tune ya:)
*madalaine - i'll write up the story soon, probably when i have settled with the concepts and started off the lineart stage.thank u:]
another 10 minutes sketch~
A lot of comments indeed.. weldeserved!
This is the sketch I like the most, dunno how much there are coming tho? :D
character is great (little boy), a lot can be done here with the emotion/expression.
The cool thing is he's walking towards the viewer and then away from it, to follow these stairs, this is a strong aspect in your pic!
Hope you're ok with me telling what to go with, it's just an opinion.
The way you enter your finals, makes every sketch great, so....
I'll wait for more to come..
03-06-2006, 07:22 AM
wow, love your work, i like the first one the most, it has the great rpg feel to it. It reminds me alot of the drawings for korean mmorpgs.
03-06-2006, 07:32 AM
nice, Good luck
03-06-2006, 11:05 AM
I really love this- only crit is that the composition makes it looking like he's going to go up the stairs, but he's heading in the 'wrong' direction... I would change the composition so that the stairs aren't a focal point in that triangular compo that you have going there, or maybe change the boy around....?
03-06-2006, 12:53 PM
michael motion and theresa - thank both of ya so much for the comments,i might not be going with the current composition~and i thought of having a phoenix with him as a transport.those stairs might or might not be there though but i'll play around with the elements on the background:D
LhongJohn and drifton - thnks mate~:)
will try to update tomorrow.thanks alot people
03-06-2006, 02:25 PM
I like your sketch and idea. Good Luck!
03-06-2006, 03:19 PM
OMG this is so impressive ! Well I'm not surprised but still !
The most kickin' butt is probably the little number you put under the pic ... 15 min DANG :surprised
03-07-2006, 02:28 AM
okie~here's another one i did last nite~got home pretty late and felt rather tired to go with too much~just rough out a new composition and added the main character a phoenix~the lil dude remains and i'd probably be adding more characters into the scenes
zapan and nikolay - thank u both for the sweet comments;)
03-07-2006, 08:42 AM
this is excelent shake,i admire your penciling, can't wait to see it develop more, obviously in some parts,i can't tell where some things begin or end,but i know its just a sketch,so keep at it!
03-07-2006, 08:53 AM
Absolutely astounding! Fantastic Sketch. I like thois one better than the others, the only thing I do'nt see clear is the position of the parents. I am not sure if it is necessary for them to be in the composition, now they are too near to the border of the image and distract the attention, unless of course that is your intention, and besides the final coloring makes the ddifference. It depends on how you treat them. Nevertheless the sketch is fantastic man!.
Don't forget to keep us updated.
03-07-2006, 09:13 AM
bro, you ve done many sketches, this one is as good as usual..........hard to choose....but the phenix looks really great, keep it up:buttrock:
03-07-2006, 09:42 AM
loving the new composition!
the wings and the bridge frame the character beautifully.
03-07-2006, 09:55 AM
Love the new sketch Michael , you got a style all your own bro , no crits as usually just keep rocking the tablet! keep on workalerkin
03-07-2006, 11:25 AM

03-07-2006, 11:37 AM
Ooh great new aproach Mike! you nailed it bro.
03-07-2006, 02:22 PM
crazy amount of detail you have there. i bet it will look amazing once you light it. Are you going to try out some variations on this composition?
Good luck buddy! cool sequence of sketches!
03-07-2006, 03:28 PM
you are so fast! love the idea of the phoenix, it gives the impression that it's not just a short trip but a really loooong distant journey! good going!
03-07-2006, 03:41 PM
Yes, i think the phoenix-idea is much better. Adds more adventure and imagination into the scene.
I don´t like however the way the wings copy the shape of the mountains, but i´m sure you´re up to fix that anyway.
This is going to be impressive, way to go!
03-07-2006, 04:17 PM
Wow, Michael, That's a really cool idea! I love how the wings frame the center of the pic and really focus your eyes on the center with all of the radial composition lines. It really works with all of the tall mountains in that, once you have wings, the logical path of a journey is up. (Just as someone (duracel) pointed out in my thread that once you have a creature with legs, the logical path for the journey is across, so I should focus on a landscpe composition.) I hand't thought about it before, but in retrospect, that was something that was not quite working with your tall composition with boy on foot. But now that you've added the phoenix, the vertical composition is just right!
Keep 'em coming, and nice work! :)
03-07-2006, 06:20 PM
That concept is really intresting!
03-07-2006, 06:58 PM
this phoenix is the one I wanna see progress

Now sorta see the path of the pheonix's journey....make that vast mate...make it very vast. Hehehheh:thumbsup:
Great line art too....as usual
03-10-2006, 11:44 PM
There are too many to choose from! I prefer the two with the phoenix in, as I think it adds more depth to the story. Also, I can foresee some nice colour in the phoenix. ;)
I like both the latest two and it's really hard to choose between them. If I HAD to pick one, I'd say to go for the latest (concept sketch 6). :)
You really are superb at drawing. Looking forward to seeing some colour/tonal values now. Keep up the great progress. :D
03-10-2006, 11:47 PM
Your line art is great. I'd go with the latest one, it has so much depth and already has a feeling of space and distance.
03-11-2006, 03:14 AM
Guess i missed a lot huh. Sorry, been busy with other projects.
I prefer this last sketch as well. The angle works very well with the scene. The only thing i can suggest is to watch out for the birds wings, because they are pretty close to the edge of the page, which might create a wierd tangency. Either shorten it a bit or lift it up a bit.
Other than that, looking forward to the colour comps
03-11-2006, 11:27 AM
The latest one! Awsome! I adore your sketches but hey I want some colour haha! You have many possibilities to choose from, I'd go for this one, as BaronImpossible said, this one has more depth.
Looking forward to seeing those colours! hehe
03-11-2006, 11:30 AM
I love all you're consept sketches in this thread!
So much detail, and so easy to just start on with the painting right away
Keep it up
Cant wait to see it in colours
03-12-2006, 11:17 AM
Yup yup, nice to see you sh@king a leg - plenty of mountain ranges are bound to crop up in this challenge and I shall defieitely be back here to check up on how you develop yours :)
all the best
03-12-2006, 04:12 PM
Wow, that last sketch is very impressive... Really looking forward to some colours :)
woah that concept is wonderful. i really like the idea.
best of luck with it
03-12-2006, 10:54 PM
Loving your sketches, they're very nice indeed. You capture quite a bit with a minimal amount of lines, very cool. Your latest image from the top of the roof definitely fits the concept the best I think, it shows nice scale as well as gives the feeling of looking away from the village, about to leave on a journey. I personally think it's a good thing with this specific concept to show what lies ahead, as thats all part of the journey, even though some of your other drawings really capture the village nicely. Can't wait to see more.
03-13-2006, 01:30 AM
*stumping the table*
Color! Color! Color!
03-13-2006, 05:56 AM
Your 3 last sketches are simply amasing, you have the intuition of a good spacial composition. I wait some good colors now
03-13-2006, 06:03 AM
Really nice work. I love your drawings. If I was to add any suggestion, it would be to loosen up the waving man's left arm. It is very stiff and doesn't appear to have a natural gesture. Maybe bend it slightly. I know that is a nit-pick considering that this is an outstanding drawing
03-13-2006, 04:24 PM
I think you are almost there with the last sketch.
Great concept, looking forward for color.
03-13-2006, 09:23 PM
very great draws!
i'm very impatient to see the following of yor work!
03-15-2006, 04:00 AM
i'm still working on a new composition~too much jobs at hand and couldnt do much for the challenge~here i just spend alil time doodling on the character design.
will post again later:)
03-15-2006, 04:21 AM
guys~thanks alot for all the comments~i'll go through each and everyone of it and follow up with the crits, comments and suggestion given~i'm glad most of u like the latest comp, however i had another one in my mind~still working on it.
thanks again everyone.u guys rocks!
03-15-2006, 09:12 AM
made this an hour ago, just design the basic look of the character as well as the phoenix,'m working on another one now, hopefully i could post it later tonite:)
03-15-2006, 09:16 AM
man u should make it more fine and put it in 2d gallery haha, love ur mood and the phoenix alot, is that a boy or girl riding it?
03-15-2006, 09:25 AM
nice pic dude
03-15-2006, 09:29 AM
The phoenix is amazing, great concept. In my opinion only I would make it brighter, after all the bird's relation with fire is essential. Love the mood of the concept. You are brilliant mate.
03-15-2006, 10:13 AM
mmm...looks like the rider has asbestos butts! :)
Or is it a special saddle that keeps the hero cool ?
Looking great anyway :D
03-15-2006, 12:15 PM
great concept, the phoenix is with an excellent appearance. :buttrock:
03-15-2006, 12:15 PM
Hey man, great! Cool looking this phoenix, I like your concept. Also beautiful atmosphere in this sketch. Want to see more :)
03-15-2006, 12:34 PM
crazy. augh, i might have to go sleep before you post again D: the backlighting on the phoenix feathers looks so good. i always envy your ability to create such dramatic lighting in your pictures.
03-15-2006, 02:16 PM
gotta  this Phoenix...
03-15-2006, 02:55 PM
Love your new phoenix concept - a riding mount really adds to the feel of beginning a journey. :)
Don't know if just my imagination playing tricks on me, but when I looked at your last character concept (the one in the lower right-corner), part of his backpack changes the hair style giving the character the appearance of a girl (in fact, I thought it was a girl at first). Just some food for thought. :D
03-15-2006, 02:55 PM
nice work. your creature doesn't look too different from the drawing to the painting.. were you going to add more stuff to it? Interesting colour scheme... I wonder if you'll go with this type of palette for the final.
Hi Shake! I´m sorry about just reply your posts now. I have to tell you that I like all the sketches you´ve draw. About the last post, of coloring wip, I like the color palette you´ve choose, specially on the feather´s edges, giving some translucency. That is dude! good luck
damn man all this line art has got me really looking forward to seeing your final... :arteest:
03-15-2006, 08:02 PM
beautifull phoenix!! sthe sketch is amazing!
03-15-2006, 09:26 PM
keep up hard~~~~zheng xun ~~~~~~~:bounce: :bounce: ~~~~~
03-15-2006, 09:29 PM
cool phoenix/gryphon design, going asian eh? (seeing the kid's backpack)
03-15-2006, 09:29 PM
03-16-2006, 02:19 AM
michael chang - thanks alot bro~this is just a conceptual rendering~i might go with a different approach of the phoenix later?haha, nah cant post this in finished gallery since its only a rough,it took me an hour + to complete this.
Squibbit - hey squib~thanks mate!the concept man :scream:
Ramitxon - thanks mate~yeah, actually, this is only to show the design of the phoenix and the character~the mood and all hasnt been fix~i do all my painting to be in a certain atmostphere and mood,so this is not excluded:)
vader - thanks mate
rawwad - thanks, this has nothing to go with the overall composition, looking forward to urs too
moonlantern - thanks my friend.will keep ya updating
makaron - thank u ,glad u like it:D
ArtisticVisions - thanks alot friend~haha yeah~now i notice after u mentioned this,i could go with a girl concept maybe~
bwong - thank u,i'm not sure if i'm going with this palette in the finals~still playing around with the mood.will see how it goes:)as for the phoenix sketch, its just a concept sketch, nothing to do with the actual composition.
Gus_clifton - its alright mate~thanks for dropping by,yeah~i wanted to have the wings to have this translucent feel but it doents seem too much like it:Di might not be going with the palette, will see how it goes.i'll besure to drop by to urs soon
slav - did u awesome work in ur challenge too mate~thanks for the post:)
calisto - hie, thanks for the comment my friend, stay tune ya~more coming
minminxu - great to see u here minminxu~thanks and i will
kevinhyshen - thanks~yup, its gonna be oriental approach here.
enialadam - thanks madalaine~i'm looking forward to see more from u
03-16-2006, 02:39 AM
You have an awesome talent Michael. Your pencil work makes me jealous.:)
Your concept is great and I wish you the best of luck.
03-16-2006, 06:46 AM
i roughed out the colors of how the 4th sketch to look as for the overal, bare in mind that this might not be the palette and the composition to go with since its only a test.i'll come up with another 2 soon hopefully:) thanks alot for the support guys

I like this one, it's very beautiful and it holds potential to become even more beautiful. Those wings are very good, how they direct our attention to the focus of the image, the rider and the passenger... the tail seems too bright though, composition-wise it competes and seems to want to become the main focus... also maybe you could darken the sky and background a bit, not full white anyway, so those wonderful wings can really shine. :)

I love your Phoenix. All together very good work and mood! One of my favorite picture here.
(But I am not safe whether in the background is it a bridge or is it the roof to be from the saddle.
That is not a criticism, only my thoughts. But it is still a sketch, therefore I will waiting how it looks later.)

Looking great man!
I do think you should show more environment, more architecture, more people.
I kinda like the white sky, it looks foggy and emhasises the feeling it's taking place somewhere high up in the mountains.
Keep it up dude!

love the feel of this one
I don't know about changing the colors. The muted colors of the background really bring out the Phoenix! Seriously fascinating.
