Hey there Mr. Mu! :) Well, the basic backstory is that the mother is dead, and that's her newborn lying a bit hapless on the floor. Stay tuned for blood! Now...if only I can figure out how to render blood...:argh:

That's such a sad story.

You have nearly a thousand views already! And you tell us you aren't a celebrity? :D

I'm really curious as to how this one will turn out, I like the values so far, very well lit! But then again...it's you...:p
Would you mind doing me a teensy favor and critting the values in my thread? I'm afraid that they may be screwed up without me realising. :argh:

Becca! Psst! Yes, you!

Here I come out of my 'lurkdom' for my daily cuppa with you- how are you finding managing the workshop, anatomy forum AND the challenge?

Are you.....hmm......busy? Anatomy forum has slowed down A LOT without your 'post flurries', haha.

I hope you get outside once every few days.... seeing sun is important too, you know! :scream: Funny thing is, my brother is on his way over from America, it's not snowing where he lives (michigan!) and it is here!! It's so rare to snow here...world weather is messed up now...

So far my favorite is no. 15, I like the way you pulled out so the woman and baby look so alone and distant- it's actually quite an emotional picture. It looks also like you are bringing up the soul of the baby in quite a dramatic way- I like it! Keep it going..

Also, for my honorary Irish sister: Tiochfaidh ar la! (pronounced 'chucky ar la')-- means 'our day will come!!'

Becca!

I feel like a bad child who hasnt done his homework since I have yet to finish the last ofdw!

Hey Im liking the tripped out bathtub scene. The colors on that are great as well as the form you have going on the girl. When I first saw the bw version, the lines looked like antennas, almost making the form look moth or butterfly like. That could be a pretty cool idea to roll with, like a journey of moth creature birth to maturity? Dont know... Im still throwing ideas around for my own stuff too. I must have zoned out at work staring at the ceiling for like 3 hours trying to think of stuff. :)

Glad youre here btw, nice to see all the dsg and ofdw peeps! When are you gonna sign up for the 3D challenge?!?!? :D

Talk later ! -J

cant decide about the coloring . i think more darka and saturated dark colors will bring the theme of the woman and her baby and then more warm ( maybe bright orange and red ) to bring the mystery of the scene and a kind of hope? maybe anyway just a thought :D go beccalicious :D

Hi Gunie!! Thank you! Well, the basic story is that this woman has recently given birth, but basically she's died in the process or something. Later I'll add the kid who will just sort of be lying inertly about. I was thinking of adding footprints in the blood to give it a little more of a story.

I love Odd Nerdrum:

Hey Tyr! Thanks, I am much happier with this direction. :) I love artists like Dave McKean, and dark work in general...I am thinking that decay is part of a journey, which isn't really a deep thought, but I'm trying to explore some themes and influences that have been kicking around unexpressed for a long time. This Challenge is a good motivation for me to finally put all the stuff together in a big pile and mix it all up. I'm glad you like it!

Originally posted by Annemee: Wow a very unique idea! Are you planning any specific colors for this new concept?
Hey Annemee! I don't know about colors yet, but I am thinking faded photograph sepia, something pretty monochromatic and uncolorful. Trying to think of textures and such to apply later. :) Thanks for stopping by!

Somehow, following the links to your favourite figurative artists (esp. Odd Nerdrum), I knew there was a real dark,

...dark place within you
*lights fade, spotlight on Rebecca's face*
...isn't there, Rebecca?

:scream:

Seriously: this is starting to surpass my expectations. Truthful painting is storytelling and the stories people tell can't help but reveal a lot of what distinguishes the storyteller as a person.

That's why I am really impressed by the new concepts. It's a feeling like:"ah, this is the real deal." As if you somehow got to the point.

Damn - lacking vocabulary, here. Hope you get the drift...

So true! Luckily this doesn't manifest itself in real life, though. :)

Hey there storyForge! Hmm, frankly the symbolism wasn't really conscious, but I'm just trying to throw out a bunch of ideas quickly and to see what surfaces. I think we all get influenced by a ton of things and don't always know what things mean ~ but I really like artists like Michiko Kon (http://www.multiply.org/plural/02/scrawl.kon.html) and how she combines strange, often macabre elements in her photographic art. Re: blurry, yeah, that's just me, I don't prefer the blocky approach for my own work ~ I'm a fan of painters like Alex Kanevsky (http://www.dolbychadwickgallery.com/art_kanevsky.html) and want to try to do something similar (with my own twist, of course) digitally. Thanks for the interest!

Hi Rebecca. I heard you've been inviting most of your forum members to this challenge. You should, they're really gonna learn a lot here :) I wanna thank you on how you were so good and inspiring to my sister (Lyneran). You really helped her a lot coz she was really intimidated about posting anything here in cgtalk. Which is weird, since she's got some pretty good stuff going on. She's improved dramatically. Just keep churning until you find the direction you want....

or....

Why not combine them all together in a sort of "Journey of everyone"?:D

Martin,

LOL, I was just thinking of a way to combine them all into one group.

One idea I had was to put them all into some kind of Twilight Zone miniature house, where each vignette had a separate 'room'. That was somewhat of the concept that I was exploring in the last sketch, where I was thinking of the figure as a puppet or a doll...one thing that I don't want to have to do is reconcile the various perspectives, so I am thinking of maybe turning each image into a photograph that is in some sort of box...not sure yet, but maybe even thinking of creating some kind of triptych.

Also, I'm really trying hard to create a series, as this semester I will have to present a thesis project for my MFA. So I'm sort of using the Challenge as a catalyst to get my butt in gear in that regard :D ~ but also trying to incorporate the theme of the Challenge in some way, which is really helping me to organize my thoughts. :)

Cheers, :)

Morning, becca! Tis 7.45 am here and things are looking good in this thread.... :D

I would still go with post no. 122 as it shows plenty of emotion or possibly direction 06, as it's intriguing, with room for interpretation and improvisation.

In other words...Keep going, yes.
