Heya Aggie, why not try out the OFDWs then with wacom next time? :) I know they can be a little expensive, but there are free apps like ArtRage (the latest version is only $20) so I would encourage you to get into digital art! :)

Perhaps you can offer Ben a nice plate of cookies so he can make some new poses? And zbrush sounds like an interesting tool. Just keep going at it and something will click. Still feedling with the environment on my piece.

Want to make this sort of farcical...making fun of life's journey. Nothing really deep, but trying to show a person as having a mapped out journey from birth > death...that's really it.

every new direction is like a new journey beginning :D

That last concept is very promising :applause:
But portraying a journey of life is a journey already taken.
Or you could present it as a preparation to the journey after life, where the real journey begins.

Ok, this is getting too deep for my shallow person :)

Hey! very interesting this last sketch, very ..."mithological"("mithological" term exists in English? lol)If you want to express the "great" journey of our lives =) and talking about the background, perhaps you could create a changing background too, from left to right or vice versa. Spring- born, winter-death. I donīt know...just an idea:thumbsup:

Thanks BBM! :) True what you say about 'a journey of life is a journey already taken'. The way I sort of was thinking about it is that every journey begins and begins and begins...so it's a little cynical in a way, but also it's meant to be a little bit funny. I sort of want them to be paddling a little futilely, even though their destinies are predetermined ~ of course that's really simple, but something I'm going to try to play with a bit more. I guess you can sort of think of these little critters like spores that get released in the ocean or something...there are just thousands of them, paddling about. :)

That's a great idea, Zalo, I think I might try to put something like that in...hmm, although, a part of me likes the stark contrast of black and white, so I'll have to think about that...nice to see you here!

My advice for the "weird Jellyfishes" is for them to have different expressions.

They key is to make them as realistic as possible.

And maybe you could have the Jelly creatures interacting with each other.

Looking forward to more.

I like it. The simplicity of it makes it really interesting - I think you're on to something here, very nice!

Also... it's good to see things happening here, you have plenty of time still, so Go, Go!
Thanks Gunie!! Hehe, always nice to see the gang!

Originally posted by Mr. Mu: Wow, there's a nice tension between the forms which stems from the fact that they don't touch each other. Great atmosphere.

If you can combine all of the "new_direction" concept sketches into one breathtaking composition I can absolutely see this heading for a kind of contemporary Bosch feeling!
Thanks Mr. Mu!

That's a really good observation 'Clippy...I can't decide between a fiery yellow / gold / red or an ice blue. Unfortunately, I'm leaning toward the latter...*teeth chatter*

33 pages and it took me very very much to get to find out your direction to realize you actually head into 14b directions :argh: lol.the jellyfish and dna-tentacles have somethign intriging, the former concept of death by birth was rather rude but interesting. Dead itself probably is the beginning of a journey, birth too, so far a good point to start with but as it looks like you actually have lots of fun creatin things i gotty fight now in my brain not to take over my dreams after this long and sleepless night. :p

Your will to explore: fantastic - your wide range of ideas:wheeee - erm, it take it as you do it and will shut my trap, since i so far am brain dead anyways and take a nice seat in the "becky picture Journey show" let the show go on :)

Morning!
14b - at a first glance the shapes behind their heads looks like silouhettes of hands - is that intentional? Either way - it's an interesting sight ... like something protecting them - or maybe threatening them?
Go on, Beckiebot - this is getting really fascinating

Hey Rebecca,

the clearer your vision gets the more I am inclined to feel reminded of Dali.

I was a firm believer in Dali from about 17 - 25 and was glued to his "Autumnal Cannibalism" for at least half an hour when I was at the Tate Gallery in London (today I sometimes find myself waking up with clenched fists hating myself for the fact that I only rushed through the whole huge Turner wing of the building - I mean... a whole wing! And I was like..."Nah, where's that Dali?" Damn!)

And the thing I was wondering about is, it seemed to me that Dali had gotten completely out-of fashion, over the last years, like surrealism in general?
So, not for you , I guess? Do you like Dali? And do you think this will be a surrealist piece or is it more like it will be whatever it turns out to be
just wondering...

You mentioned Bosch earlier and I know it's kind of bold to compare him to surrealism, but all in all this is really really approaching the style of images that have been haunting me (in a good way) since my teen days.

I guess youīre right , Murat. Reminded me of Dali as well. Especially this Sfumato-Effekt coming from the airbrush.
This is the best one so far imO. Would be great if the one below is rendered in a slightly different color, like a transition or something.

Speaking of color...*knockknock* ;)

Well it reminds me some illu I saw about "les enfers" of Dante ... where souls are doing nothing but floating because they didn't do anything good or bad in their lives so they can't be send in the particular prisons .... .... .... ... .... .... *slaps self to wake up*

Inspiring work Beckie ! :)

Hey Rebeccak, saw your cgportfolio and thought it was nice. Keep it up;)

I hope you're o.k. if I speak openly about the journey piece: I do think your piece is coming along, but I don't see how it relates to the topic? They look like old people in a pond. I imagine you might have a story in here somewhere that probably makes it relate, but I didn't see it anywhere, and I don't think a written tie-in is what's in mind for the competition anyway.

Now that being said, I think your piece would make a great editorial;)
Anywhooten, there's my two-bits, whatever they're worth.

Cheers

Yay Rebecca! I didn't know you were entering but this has got to be the longest thread in the challenge forum! I'm surprised I missed it, lol

Looks like you already have a bunch of ideas going on here. I've come up with a big fat... one! And I've barely even touched that one idea. I need to get a move on.

Anyway, I really like the painting in post 114. It's very soft and gentle. I know you've moved on (a whole bunch of times!) from there but I really like that one. It's soft and definitely journey like as in dreaming.

Good luck! I'll check back later on to see the new ideas ;)
