View Full Version : How do I do this? 3d or 2d?
theboykidney 02-27-2006, 04:11 PM HI,
If I wanted to make an image similar to this in terms of the lighting/reflective effect, would I be best to do it in a 3D app or or use gradients in PS?
Also, does this kind of style have a name, or does anyone know any more images like it?
Cheers, TBK.

Photohsop 7 Down and Dirty Tricks by Scott Kelby pretty much gives you a step-by-step.
I believe it's called a gel effect.

thanks bobzilla, its definately sent me on the right track. There seems to be more intricate reflections going on in the sample i posted, but i guess thats jsut tweaking...

Yeah, there's also a section on creating reflections in objects.
I don't know what version of PS you're using, but these "Down and Dirty" books are worth it when you just need to get the job done without a lot of trial and error.

look at my avataar :D .
Layer styles 4tw. :) experiment with the layer styles, and use opacity alot en simulate the lighting by using gradients. to use multiple layer styles on a sungle layer right click the layer style -> create layers and clip it on the layer, that way you can mask out stuff if needed.

stick with PS for that one... recreating that in 3D would probably be quite a pain... you would need to light it just right, reflecting planes, fresnel, sub surface scattering, etc etc... whereas photoshop would be relativley easy and quick

I saw a lot of this stuff created in vectors.
Linux geeks seem have to be crazy about this look, especially when it's scalable.
