View Full Version : 25k render trouble (Maya -> photoshp)
vicky_1 02-27-2006, 06:41 AM Help!
I created this 3D bg which the design guys wanted in godzilla size (25000x25000 pixel) in png format. Render took me 15 hours! It now opens in fcheck but not in photoshop.
Can't even save into anyother format from fcheck coz it cuts the size to around the screen res size.
Any help is big help! Thanks!

C'mon! 18 views and no advice?
Please guys!
try opening it with acdcee or irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) (free) and resave there to another file format.

I have something similar (30000 x 15000 or sth like that)
Photoshop 7 couldn't open it, but CS could.
I didn't mingel with it too much.
I think next time I make sth similar I will divided it to squares of 9 x 9 (30000 x 15000 px = 9 x "3333.33 x 1666.67 px" wich is more humane)....and most pro printers are used to files divede into sections then afterwards put togther when printing.
I would check if that is doable.
Btw, I use Renderpal for this job, wich became freeware since yesterday (check it out !)
Hope that helps

Google it...
http://www.renderpal.com/index.php
The workstation version is freeware
Perspective view no obstacle, it just renders a small part of the picture and then the next square and so on, so you'll get a map of e.g. 9 x 9.
you should really give it a try.

You should also check Photoshop's memory management settings. You can specify how much RAM it's allowed to use and which hard disks may be used to create temp files.
Keep in mind that you're trying to open up a gigantic image (25,000x25,000 = 625 mega pixels!). Considering that you're probably dealing with an 8 Bit image (8 Bit per channel / 3 channels --> 24 Bit per pixel), Photoshop will need about 1.8 Gigs of memory just to open up the image and preparing it for you to work with.

Daniel, just downloaded renderpal. Will try it, thanx!
Chris, u r right about the file size. But I checked the memory. Around 15gig on different drive. Plus when saving, it says file size coming to more than 2gig cant save. Ok, thats another topic, another sw, i guess.
Yeah fcheck has a strange quirk when you save hires images to another format it always saves into the resolution you are viewing the file.
Workaround in fcheck would be: select "view full resolution" from the menu and then save it to the format you want.
I dont know how fcheck would handle a godzilla file though ;-)

TomD! Thanks for the saving tip on fcheck!
Now after finishing the png render, the file says imgname.png.ng???
And i'm still trying out all the suggestions you good people gave me. I'm busy:banghead:

ng fileformat is temporary file format.
The image isn't done (render chrashed perhaps ?)
You should still be able to view it by removing ".ng" but it's probably not done.

I paid for 2 licenses already...I'm glad it's freeware now.
Hope you get your job done :)
