i am currently working on a japenese human male that calls for a realistic skin texture. this would be my first attempt at a realistic skin texture. i am stuck. what would be the best way to make this texture? i cant fined very many tutorials on the net. does anyone know of any tutorials or know how to do it. i am using max 4.2 to model and i have painted some other textures in photoshop 7. any feedback would be great

thanks

The easiest way to go would be to find a pre-made shader for the renderer you are going to use. Preferably something that has or fakes translucency and is make for human skin...
I dont know where to find pre-made max shaders, or I would point you in the right direction.

check out stahlberg's tutorial, on this forum. Also to get it realistic you'll need some reference photographs to paint the colour, bump and spec maps from. So photo yourself, or stick your head in the scanner and basically clone bits from your skin to the map for your character

You might want to check this Human skin tutorial out. I found it on the 3dluvr.com website:

Here is a tut for realistic skin using procedurals in 3dsmax. It provides pretty good results, and once it is done you can render it to a texture and then add more details in photoshop (render to texture is only in 3dsmax 5....me thinks)

Realistic Skin Tut (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fmr2k.3dvf.com%2Ftutorials%2Fmax%2Fdivers%2Fskin_procedurale.htm&langpair=fr%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools)

I hope this helps
