View Full Version : Very ANGRY Tommy Lee!!!!!
Tommy Lee 12-13-2002, 06:00 AM Hi Dudes and Dudettes, hi Mods!!!
I am very mad about that threadless entries in the 2D challenge.
We all wipped our ass off to show the best WIP thread we can and then some people just loaded up a pic, that isn´t finished allready and maybe tell all their friends to vote for it.
Is it just me or was there the rule of a WIP thread. I think so!!!!
So I want that the mods delete these posts without a WIP thread. Its not fair to the dudes and dudettes who showed us all the progress of their artistic pieces.
And how will we know if these entries aren´t just copies of another artists???
So I hope ya mods will make this thread a sticky. I am not the only one who is annoyed.
So thanks for reading and think about it
Cheerz
Tommy Lee
PS: Comments and ya thoughts are very welcome!!!!!:wavey:

I agree,Wip's are and should be required. But in looking at the challenge site I noticed all the entries had threads. I must be missing the one you are concerned with. Which one am I missing? :hmm:

What's with the roll of the eyes Poju???
Instead of me doing all the checking you could have given me the names. I just noticed one that had no thread, and another that started there's a couple days before the deadline. All the leaders look to have had the threads for awhile. So no real harm.
What you just don't want to be the name giver, the informant?  :p

Ok, I'll fess up- I'm a bad bad person.
No disrespect intended- I was just really stoked to get my wacom tablet but, I really didn't like my entry too much so I decided to abandon it like a red headed stepchild (as you can guess 2D really is not my strong suit.).
So this is me apologising. I totally understand; next time I enter I'll finish or die trying...or at least have a WIP.
Peace,
-Toby:blush:

Yeah, similar things have been done with the 3D wip challenges of past challenges.
This was entered into the Gods and Demons Challenge (http://www.cgchallenge.com/challenge_view.php?challenge_id=6) page a while ago without being part of the actual challenge.
With a freeware sword included in the model.:shame:

Geez.
Sorry to post this here, I mentioned this thing before but it didn't get any response. This seemed like the thread to put this in.
I totally agree here.
No thread = no WIP = invalid challenge entry = should be deleted.
Also, since we're talking about deleting entries I'd like to bring this up (since I didn't get a response in the challenge issues thread). I think you should add a feature to the CGChallenge site that allows the artist to remove thier entry if they want.
For example: I entered both the 2D Living toons and the 2D animation challenge. I didn't get to complete the Living toons entry on time so I feel the entry should be removed so others who did complete have the opportunity to recieve more votes. It doesn't seem right to me that I'm getting votes for an unfinished piece and finished ones are getting less votes. The 2D animation entry I didn't even get to start other than a character concept picture. Where's the animation in that? I'd like to delete it ... it's embarrassing.

Hi Tom,
Calm yourself down there buddy:wip:
I understand you Tom, and I do agree with you. I myself wanted to post my animation entry to CGChallenge but since I havent post any updates to my thread (thanks man you're the only one who spared a time to reply ha..ha..) so I cancelled it and I did delete my thread before the 8th.
Anyway my real concern is not about the non WIP entries not about voting as well (I found out I can vote multiple entries right?). My real concern is how we give scores. If you notice there are actuallys some entries that deserve more scores than the others. I do know that we who vote and give score are not professional juries but we are all into art ya? So I supposed we do have eyes and taste and feeling to do decent scoring. What do you think?
Best regards

Well I don't know if my opinion is worth squat since I have yet to complete a challenge But I agree with you Tommy if you want your entry to be valid you should show the progress.

This CG Family is superb....
I think thats it what makes this board so fantastic and a place where ya love to be.
@TobyWong: You are not a bad person. We all know ya work...but rules are rules.Peace too..hehe!!!!!!
@Joril: Pretty fine that ya post this here. I started the thread not only for the 2d challenge. This Prob should be solved on every challenge. Thanks for ya 2 cents.
@Kirt:You got it buddy. And the idea of deleting entries(Just Challenge entries, because we are no mods;) ) is very good. I also had the problem with a entry in a past challenge. Btw...damn great pic ya made there...respect:beer:
@raden:I agree with ya in that votingpoint. Well said buddy!!!!
@Stygian:Thanks for supporting this.
I hope a Mod will start a thread to solve the prob. And I want to say that I don´t think that the People who entered the challenge without a thread are cheaters. But ya never know and as said: rules are rules. SO peace to all and I hope ya understand my anger about that.
Cheeeeeeeerz:beer:
Tommy Lee
PS: And I want the NO-Voters also to give us their 2 cents why the entries should not been deleted. Thats the important point about a discussion and to solve a prob.
And sorry for my poor english,.. Its hard for me to find the right words..lol:blush:

Yeah, I know what you mean....
I also thought the rules were to show your toon performing some sort of hobby or something.... although I suppose I can see how dressing your toon up in a costume could indicate that hobby... just wish I had known before hand. lol My toon in a Yoda outfit could have been funny. :D

Thanks for starting the thread Tommy Lee. :buttrock:
I don't have anything new to add, I just wanted to say that I agree- all entries should have a wip thread. Personally, I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to have feedback on the wip. That's what makes the challenge fun.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you too.
The fun part of the contest is to model it and showing up the progress... to get critigues, suggestions and motivating comments.

Got all your concerns, thx much, and I myself will be sizing up the challenge site with stricter rules... Leo has yet to implement features, and these will be all addressed over the holidays...
One thing that does bother me, is peeps that use old models and enter them, for example http://www.cgchallenge.com/entries/14374/18_large.jpg
and you gotta love his thread link http://www.cgchallenge.com/challenge_view.php?challenge_id=18&start=20&sort=
sorry buddy whoever you are, but that's just wrong :shame:
I will be weeding out all the peeps that haven't taken the time to read the rules.
THe voting is now over and the council will be deciding who takes home the goodies for Christmas :D
hold tight

I agree with your points.
Another thing I noticed:
If you sort the entires by ranking, the ones with the highest ranking also has the most votes cast for them.
Makes me wonder how well the entry ranked #15 would compare against the entry ranked #1 if they both had the same amount of votes cast.... kinda eliminates the whole purpose of rankings eh?
Also, consider only allowing members who have been members for at least a month or so to have the ablity to cast votes... to prevent any kind of multiple voting?

Glad you put this in Tommy Lee. Even happier to see it was implemented. I think that if you're gonna vote for 1 you should vote for the rest. I do. Every single entry got a vote, and I use the point system. It would be a different story if we had equal votes. I'm sure by a certain time, people click on the score, see whats at the top and leave the rest. I wish they looked at the rest.

:bounce: Hi guys...first of all i read all the answers in this thread 'cuase i was tottaly concern what other people say about this
So i want to make some points too...
1.... lildragon the Living Toon challenge has more than one guys who are using old models...and NOT THEIR models also...so even 1 vote to their post is insulting to all the others who is busting their heads in front of a pc to make a wip.(Someone is using LEGS FROM A KNOWN ROBOT FROM AN OLD MODEL FROM 3D CAFE FREE MODELS....lol
2...Voting should start only after evaluating the entries and take out all those threads without wip OR OUT OF RULES.
I love the challenge Section very much and i am very inspired from many people here. But...as a professional i know what CONCEPT of a WORK mean. So i need to ask everyone something
The classic challenge was "Living Toon 3D"? or...
Make a toon?
I mean no disrespect to anyone ...i just need to understand..
P.S : Poju ,KoRn_ART andErik ...maybe the best entries...love u guys!!!

Very good points Dimitris, I agree with what has all been said.
But I'm just a little bitter because floating heads and barely done images got a better score than me. :P
heh, j/k, im VERY bitter, :D

First I have to say: Thank ya all so much for ya feedback!!!
It´s a good feeling to know that the dudes and dudettes are willing to discuss not so funny things even. So ya see,... when we talk, we´ll solve the prob without disapointing anyone.
@LilDragon: Thanks for reading this and for trying to solve the prob.
I also have to say what makes this board so great too: Communication between Mods and Users.
I´ve said enough
Thanks:bowdown:
Tommy Lee
PS: And a biiiiiiiiig thanks to jeorentje, who was crawling around the modarea to give a wink..hehe. Thx buddy!!!!

i think this is really a good idea!
what do you all think of an additional rule like that: updates must be postet every time a modeling session ends. or in this way: you were working more than two hours on the challenge -> post an update.
it is more a guide than a rule...
(*g* did anyone understand that? )
it was big fun to take part in this challenge though i've been scared a bit missing the topic. i'm sorry for not finishing in time but i will sooner or later.

I think thats an absolutly great idea!!!!!

I agree that its possible for people to look only at the first few images, place their vote and move on. I think the only way to alleviate this problem is to show every entry on one page and force people to give points to every single one before they can click the vote button. Sure there are lots of entries, but (almost) everyone put a lot of hard work into their challenge and deserve some sort of point, even if you dont like it. Whatever happen though im sure it will be an improvment. I support this 100%.
-Rye
Yes, that's the point. It wasn't so cool to vote on each entry... And the other stuff - yes, I totally agree, except that the two hours update... I can play a lot of time on some details, and then the clock is just tickin', and I don't save :(, I don't eat, and I just don't take any screenshots  :P

well, since the COUNCIL will say the LAST WORD, there is no need to worry about illegal entries! :) calm down & let people show their works, WIP or non-WIP....who cares? cause the winner would be chosen by an expert juri, huh?...
seems I'm the only one who do not agree with dear Tommy Lee! ;)

Dear Tommy
you care about what? about too much votes for an non-wip entry or unfinished one?...then so what? what will harm you? maybe you think they gonna take your prize out?! but it is not possible since we have a COUNCIL you know!
Sorry
& I didn't see that rule you mentioned!:
> The final rules for the 10th challenge are:
> 1) create a caricature of yourself or of any object that defines what you are, your favorite couch, car or sunglasses...as long as it is a caricature
> 2) must be toon based, no PHOTOREAL HUMANS
> 3) caricature must be portraying an emotion.
> 4) create your caricature performing your favorite hobby. (please not computer related )
