Ok Vote for your favorite STORY REEL!

THE STORY REEL!_Challenge 1: "THE CHASE":Zyrinx (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=321399)

Took me all day, so I'd guess about 12 hours total on this one. Rediculous.
Anyway here it is - a little over 4mb

www.tobyart.com/dsg/movie/chase.wmv (http://www.tobyart.com/dsg/movie/chase.wmv)

It's a Bond kinda thing. With a twist so suprising you may want to potty before you watch it. You laugh you'll cry. Grab your loved ones it's The Chase!

THE STORY REEL!_Challenge 1: "THE CHASE":RaisedByWolves (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=320897)

Wow. The music piece sycned up amazingly with the storyboard. All I had to do was time some cards differently and Bam. Perfect. I don't think I can describe it. You better watch it.

Anyway, here are the other card's final sketches:

And here is my final: 6.36MB! Right click and "Save As"

Let me know if you get no video or audio. I tried to use very generic codecs.

Total time: About 4hrs, maybe 2.5 in Photoshop with tablet, 1.5 in Premiere.
Oh, and 5 mins with NOTEPAD! yeah!

My apologies for not spacing out the time spent on this, I know the whole point of these things is to critique each other, and allow for feedback- but much like everyone else I suffer from not enough time in a day.

It was fun! Hope you enjoy! Thanks for letting me participate! Cgtalk rocks. Etc.

From Roberto's post:
The best animation/short will be selected by an open vote
for these categories:

Best Cinematography
Best Illustrations
Best Editing
Best Overall Entry
[/end snatch]

This is tricky, since there are only two other participants, and I don't believe in voting for myself... so hmm...

Best Cinematography -Zyrinx
Best Illustrations -Mr. Mu
Best Editing -Zyrinx
Best Overall Entry ..
I'm torn on the overall entry one, Zyrinx's animations were really slick, but Mr. Mu was the only one to spread out his work over the course of the week, which is uber important.

I wave my overall entry vote.

Yeah, I think we need alot more people than us to vote makes it an odd mix

Best Cinematography -Mr. Mu
Best Illustrations -RaisedByWolves
Best Editing - RaisedByWolves
Best Overall Entry- I think I'll let the audience choose this one

It is somewhat strange to vote with just the four of us and Wiggin still at work, but anyway:

Best Cinematography -Zyrinx
Best Illustrations - RaisedByWolves
Best Editing -Zyrinx
Best Overall Entry Zyrinx
I especially loved Zyrinx's panning and overall camera work. RaisedByWolves created a full character concept and did an animatic which is very close to a full animation.

I would love to see Wiggin's entry, soon.

Thanks again, Roberto.

Great job zyrinx and raisedbywolves! I really enjoyed watching them. And it looks like you had alot of fun making them as well. *really wants to make one* I'm not going to do any voting yet because I seem to be unable to view Mr.Mu's! I don't know, I seem to be missing something...do I have to save target as or something? :hmm:

Hi mybutterflyIris,

after you clicked the link scroll down and press the "free"-button on rapidshare.de, then you have to wait 20 sec. and enter a code shown to you in a pic (to prevent automatic downloading) and then you automatically get a "save to" input...

So do you guys want another one?

Hm, I do. (short answer)

long answer:

Someday, I want to get into animation, 2D and 3D. I am learning to paint and draw and try to handle Blender.

Doing storyboards and animatics is a crucial step for this goal and I need practise.
I don't get things done fast without a deadline.

I hadn't really noticed this part of CGTalk before and must say it is rather sad that the 2min film club seems to suffer from the same illness as this Challenge - low participation. It even had a frontpage plug, so I don't have the slightest clue how to remedy that.

I believe I now have time to do the next one, but it appears that there was no interest in this. I would have expected alot of DSF peeps here. It just doesn't seem like fair-play with the limited entries we received on THE CHASE!. The idea is great, but should be extended to two-three weeks, perhaps? Or would that appear non-real world deadline?

But, even though not many participants for this, I also see limited entries for DSF. Is it finals or something?

I was interested in this challenge when it first came out, but I didn't participate because I was just not good enough to meet that deadline. My sketches are horrible. Great job to the ones taht did it thoughimages/icons/icon13.gif Keep the challenges coming!

Very nice to watch, shame wasnt more participants. I started one but didnt get round 2 finishing it. I think its worth doing a few more, see if it gets more popular with people. I'll be sure to attempt the next one :)

I would have liked to participate, but I have been working long hours this last week and needed chill time over the weekend. I don't think making the production "real time" is necessary. I hope to wrap this project up soon, but I have a full time job to do and can only devote a few hours a week to any challenge.

Shoot.
Come to think of it, I think now is a bad idea. Perhaps keep the idea of reviving this AFTER the CG Challenge is over? If we only got limited entries now, assume the same or no one for the next. After the news broke this morning, my mind focused only on the Challenge.

Roberto- I'd love to have another contest like this one. Though if there is another I will definitely start on it right away instead of waiting till half way through.

I don't know if I would extend the timeline beyond a week. I think the key to getting more participation is to *emphasize* how little a time contribution it can be.

Cause 30 mins a day, any three or four days of the week... that's probably enough to scrape up an entry. No problem. It's not much of a commitment. Making it two/three weeks makes it seem like such a huge project.

Just my 2 cents.

timeframe - one week is enough and also emphasizes that it's not meant as a giant project.

as for participation: I think the key is persistence. If you stick to keeping it running some day it will get enough attention and participants. The CGChallenge will drain the inflow of participants, though.

Another thing: Does anyone know a freeware solution to panning shots?

Yay! My first Award Winning Movie! Look out Spielberg ! For some reason I don't think this one will make the ol' portfolio however. Did you get a chance to make the new trophy? Great work Mu and Wolves!

Hey congratz Zyrinx!

And I still think you should get into the marketing business somehow as I nearly laughed my pants off when reading your accompanying text to your great reel!:scream:
