how do you actually save render settings?

i can create them but i have to do it for each file. i want to make one setting and just be able to select it from the render menu.

thanks in advance

When you select Render Settings go to the General tab and in the 'Name' field give it a name.

It saves automatically to the Render Menu.

If you want multiple Render Settings then go to the Render Menu and select 'New Render Settings.' Then, name the new setting when the window pops up. Now you'll have two render settings choices under the Render Menu.

i know i can do that, but it doesn't carry over to each new file. it only stays in that file.

what am i missing?

Maybe 9.5? Only from this version on rendersettings are stored independent from the scenefile.

By the way,
In the next update,
is it possible to add a 720x540 ratio in the Resolution pulldown?
this is what we usually use here in the States when working, and on final output render in AE go down to 720x486 or even convert this in Final Cut for the final edit. Photoshop has this preset, Im surprised Cinema does not as it is famous for being friendly in this way. It has all other formats except for this. Unless I have been missing it everytime

thanks for the tip for saving the preset

howzit,

I believe that you can do that manually. Just select "Manual" and type in the dimensions you want.

Why? You've got me confused now.

He said why.

Why does he render to one resolution then scale it down to another afterwards. Why not render directly to the resolution you want?

Ah. Pixel Aspect Ratio

I'm still not used to using it, since I've always rendered CG meant for computer playback. So I render 1:1 (square pixels). But anything that has to end up played on TV or on DVD may get squeezed one way or another, PAR of 1.2, .97 etc.

because in general people prefer using square pixels? i know when i was working in commercials i always used 768x576 and 1024x576 and squeezed in AE.

it's easier to just set the pixel aspect ratio up to 0.9 in Cinema and use the correct target resolution, plus you wont get "eggs" instead of spheres that way. if you scale it afterwards that's what you'll end up with.

you'll need to explain that one a little bit more clearly because it doesn't make any sense. there is no difference in rendering to square pixels and the squeezing on output and working at a D1 aspect ratio throughout. the result is the same. or you meant something different?

no you're right, i wasn't thinking straight. however you could end up with some odd vertical aa effects and renders will take longer (as you're rendering additional lines/pixels that aren't needed).
