Highlight your black layer in your layers palette and click on the add layer mask button down the bottom (of your layers palette).

Now click on the mask thumbnail which appears next to the layer thumbnail so its border goes thick to indicate that is is selected. You can now use brushes and other tools on this mask. Black will remove pixels and white will add them back again. Just play around with it to see how it works.

It looks like you need to use a soft brush, coloured black to paint your black areas away.

Internally within photoshop, masks are actually alpha channels.

I would also try using a blending mode on your grass like lighten or one of the others. You do this in your layer palette.
