View Full Version : beast walk test
Hi.
I did some walk test for the tehanimal I have done while a go.
It's not quite loop because of dynamic stuff
It's just to see how all mehanic stuff is workink..
Critique is welcome.

looks awesome would add a little bit more impact to the feet though just a tad.

Looks nice man. The front right leg snaps as it's landing - the plate on it's shoulder shows it too. You could also get away with adding more weight to it, make this thing feel as massive as it looks. Great render ;)

Wow... that's awesome stuff. The animation is so smooth, and that robot beast looks really awesome.

yeah that's a very nice model mate, the animation is good too. just needs more weight; perhaps just in the clavicals. Also the right foot flicks forward faster then the left, this might have been intentional but it kinda stands out.
all in all it's looking great
thx , I agree that some more weight to the legs could be more interesting
also for walk cycle it's important to create moves much more smooth but it's not for game :)
so the difference with legs move (speed) is more interesting for longer animation i think.
and the "Great render" hehe it's simple two lights with small color correction , and that's all most of efect is by the textures painted on the all elements...
thanks again...

assymetry is great but i agree with kayoti that the right front foot appears to snap or glide forward in an odd way just before it lands.
i know you mentioned dynamic animation not cycling but the if you could clean it up it would help with analysing the animation because the eyes wouldn't be drawn to the snapping tail.
other than that it's beautful.

WOW! That is really detailed and I'll bet it was a pain in the butt to rig. Like everyone else has kinda said the front right is bugging me, but i think part of it is because this is, like you said, not a perfect loop. It would probably look better with one or two more cycles. Also what is bugging me about that paw (sorry to dwell on the one issue) is that the right paw slow drags up like my mind expects it to while the left one starts to then shoots forward. This would be fine if the left paw was the following step and then the right paw did a similar/faster motion afterwards. The motion of the spine and shoulders looks bang-on. The issue of the weight, I think, could go either way, make it lithe and lighter or make it bulky and heavier, this is a character trait that has already be determined by the desighner of the character (you or whoever). ie if it was designed to go sprinting across a metal wastelend then it is at the moment too heavy, if it is goning to be lumbering around in an abandon space station it isn't heavey enough. From a design(form function) stand point I would say (as an observer) that, it's back legs being as long as they are, it looks like a male lion, which is somewhere in between the two, can be fast and at the same time lumbers around more often. You/the designer will need to decide what this awesome beast will act like in it's environment (another contributing factor to the way a character is going to act) and that will ultimately determine IF the beast needs more weight, less weight or if it is fine as is.
PS: The spines on it's back the jiggle ever-so-slightly, perfect touch.

Hehe, well I believe anything that has been rendered, lights or no lights, will get a compliment out of me ;) I've been staring at playblasts for the last 3 weeks straight - I'm dying to start lighting!
I agree with you about keeping the body asymmetrical in it's walk, thats a great idea. But if you scrub through frame by frame, you'll notice the the snap a little better. Watch the plate on the shoulder, and you will see it move a large distance (compared to the rest of the cycle) in only two frames. You could soften that up a bit and see how it looks.
This model is sweet, man.
