I just did this painting in photoshop last nite following a tutorial. This is the first time i done matte painting. It is not totally finish, but i stopped because I feel there is something wrong with it but I can't seem to correct it. I am still a very beginner of lights and shadow and composition, hopefully i get better when I practice a few more. I wonder if u guys can give me some feedback or critique on this piece. Thanks

well, for the source of light you have, the colors of the rock and stone seem a bit off.
One thing I might suggest, when you decide on a color comp and temperature of the piece and its atmosphere (sunny, clear, rainy cold etc..) you might consider finding like photos of the same and directly sample to color from facing the source of the sun to the shadow areas. But before you can create a realistic fantasy looking landscape, you might try creating a completely standard landscape first.

Also a bit off topic , but I have noticed about 90% of the Mattes shown here on CGTalk are all natural landscapes, outdoors. Don't short change yourself, mattes include cityscapes and streets, buildings and impossibly large technologies. Please continue!
