It's looking alot better...I would say you need to work on the nostrils a bit more and the lips from first glance...the overall shape is alot better...the eyes are more than alot better...could still use a little tweeking though....you're coming along fine...learning alot....good job, keep it up.... :surprised

A good profile photo would help you sort out most of your proportions... better than my first head .

Thank you, you really are very helpful, it`s so nice to have a second opinion, sometimes when it`s too much time on one model I dont SEE anymore...

Ok, here are some changes, hope to hear from some of you, if you like it or not, and maybe some more things you think needs work? Just write something, anything...

Hi,
that's looking really good, much better than your original version. I think the face, from the eyes down is near perfect, really good. The nose and mouth look sweet. But I think it starts to go wrong above the eyes. First of all I would drop the brow back into the head a little, it looks just too strong at the minute. Try and give the brow area a clear division between left and right side, even just slightly, which then smooths into the single slope of the forehead. Also the forehead seems to go on forever. Try to have it go vertically in a fairly steep curve for about the distance between the eyes and the tip of the nose, the curve should then break towards the back of the head. At the minute your man's head looks almost like it is peaked at the top, try to have the top surface a good deal flatter - you may want to remove perhaps the top 1/5th of his skull, it just goes up way too high. Also try and work building up the definition of neck muscles, especially at the back, as they work into the skull. That should get you started. As suggested you should just have a good look at profile photos, or even better look at a skull and its shape and try to visualise how a face and neck would fit onto it. If you can do the rest of the head as well as the face you'll be flying!

I think the laugh line is a bit harsh.

The brow needs some definition (see attachment). Drastic Improvement from the first image. I especially enjoy the nose. That is great.

I made a little "paint over"

You may also want to play with jaw profile -see attachment-.
I added my "paint over" to lowdown's "paint over" :)

Wow that has come a long way!! Nice Work!

Nice feedback, thank you all! It was really, really helpful. I was focused, in 95 %, on trio eyes/nose/lips and I was blind to some obvious (and less obvious) things outside the face.

Finkster: It`s far from perfect, but thanks to your detailed critique I could improve other things than face. Of course, I`m still not THERE... :)

lowdown and MrM: I like your head, it`s better than mine  maybe I shuld quit modeling and switch to drawing only...

This update is done with same lighting and similar angels, to show changes.

ps. I`m using Max 5 right now... but planing to learn others as soon as I`ll finish my head modeling lesson I`m having right now :).

comments & crits. welcome:

The longer i look at new side render (actually, its ont exactly side, and front) the more I think and feel there is something wrong, and older side looks better in some way. But I can`t really find out what`s not right - when I`ll play with it a little I should got it, but your comments will for sure help a lot. Thanks!
