My name is Blaz and Im a student in College of fine arts in Slovenia. I know that I have some problems with human anatomy, so I hope I'll learn some more about it thru this forum with ur suggestions and critiques. Thank u very much in advance!
Here is a painting that Im working on at the moment.. Its an autoportrait in a box trying to escape from all the rules of this world (geting out of box), but more than I struggle, the tighten the box is .. or its just me geting wider and havier. I took some photos of me for a reference, but I didnt paintover them, I just looked at them and tried to got contrasts of lights and shadows with soft brushes for a start. The second and third frame where Im geting wider, I painted from the head, so please tell me if there is anything that I should change? This painting will be developed, so this is just a rough "sketch" for now...

Welcome aboard! :) I quite like the sensibility in these pieces, and really look forward to seeing more of your work! These Anatomy Threads are really quite self~directed, with informal comments and critique from the community. Do you have any specific studies or projects in mind for your thread? :)
Hey, I've just checked out your site, outstanding work! You ought to think about running a Tutorial here on the Anatomy Forum. :) Your work is beautiful!

Thnx Rebeccak! Im sorry but I didnt know the real purpose of these threads.. I looked around a bit to other threads and wanted to show this piece Im working on at the moment and get some usefull comments about the anatomy, which this picture will be mostly about. Its a project for a challenge that is closing soon (here in Slovenia) so I thought I could post WIP stuff here and listen to what other ppl have to say about it. Is that acceptable for that thread?
Thnx also for compliments about my work :) it means a lot to me! I could see what can I do about those tutorials.. Im known by having really little time, so I hope I could produce something usefull, hehe.. and if u wouldnt mind directing me to the right direction, I would really appreciate it!

hey dude your pics look a bit cramped
u gonna do stuff like in your machineflesh entry too?

Really like the concept you have there. Reminds me of the 3 stages of life that a man goes through.
#1 is awareness of the box
#2 is struggle and defiance of box
#3 is reluctant acceptance of the overpowering and all enveloping box.
Kind of like a mouse caught in the coils of a boa constrictor snake.
First he becomes aware that he is caught...then he struggles...and finally realizes that the more he struggles the tighter the constrictions becomes.
A no win situation if ever there was one.
That's life or Cest La Vie.
Played with your design a little last night.
#1 is youth middle age and old age
#2 is youth middle age and finally old age - being enveloped by the box which is death.
These might help you with your ideas - don't know
But it was an interesting concept to play with
#3 is reluctant acceptance of the overpowering and all enveloping box.
no noooo :scream: Maybe I need to get older before I give in...:D
Wonderful concept, and I love the little light hole! Fantastic idea.
No crit here, I just think you should blow it up resolutionwise and add a wild amount of detail, and then post it to the finished 2D section in order to teach em all a lesson!:scream:

hi there and many many thnx to all of u who stopped by! I was too busy to post anything, but this weekend I found some extra time and there r the results...
Squibbit: there will be time when I'll post something more gorish again :D
Spirit Dreamer: ur first explanation of a pic is the one Im going for. A story of a mouse is an exellent example of the feeling here. I really like ur playing results with my pic but I'll stick to not so distorted version anyway :) Thnx for taking ur time!
Mr. Mu: thnx buddy! I hope that the finished piece will be in a way I wanted it.
update (showing the process done so far):
detail of the face (and how the whole pic is painted with rough brush strokes.. except from the 3rd pic which is not finished yet):

I really like the painterly direction you are headed with these! Have you ever seen the work of Odd Nerdrum:
Trust me, his work is wierd, but his brushwork is really great!
I would caution you though about sacrificing form to cool brushwork ~ I think there are lots of great brushes out there, but I think that the form is more important ~ looks like you're starting to get both, which is great to see!

You've got some nice forms going on in the nifty self-portrait-in-a-box painting; I like the lighting. That face, though. Wow. Awesome lighting, and really nice brushwork. Gorgeous stuff. And the paints on your site are beautiful.

And Im back after a long time... This time Im working on a personal project, painting a dark angel concept. This one I'll submitted for a d'artiste: concept art book, so I'd really appreciate some help and criticism :) For a body I had a photo reference Im looking at, some nude guy found on the net. And yea.. I'd like thank to all of u who helped me with my previous piece. U r the best :)
04-09-2006, 02:09 AM
Hey, this is looking awesome! :) The only things that I can see that are looking a bit funny are his left knee and right wrist. Can you post the reference photos? Great to see new work from you! :)
04-09-2006, 02:16 AM
Thnx Rebeccak for such a quick reply! Here is a reference photo of that man..
I did have lots of problems painting his hands and knees coz they r so complex. And thnx so much for ur threads. I didnt know how to approach to a human body painting. Now that I saw ur starts with black and white soft brush strokes, everything is just so easy and quick to build a main form of a character. Thnx a lot for doing that :)
04-09-2006, 02:24 AM
Hey, you're most welcome! :) Thanks so much for the compliment and feedback! :)
One thing that I think might help his right wrist is to slightly lighten the top part of the arm, as currently the values of the top and side of the arm / wrist are a bit close, and this flattens that area out. It looks like your wrist is pretty faithful to the photograph ~ sometimes you have to exxaggerate the existing features to get them to 'read', and this might be the case here ~ the man's wrists are a bit thin and even frail ~ you might try to just add a bit of emphasis to his right wrist, but not too much, to make it look stronger and more substantive.
Hope this helps! :)

Thank u once again for that detailed reply :) I think I found the mistake on the wrist and correct it... what u think? Is it still a problem?
04-09-2006, 10:38 AM
I really like the legs and the torso of that figure!
04-09-2006, 02:05 PM
jrdollesin: nice sketches.. but with all the respect, I think everybody should have its own thread.. and not uplouding their pics to other ones... best regards! blaz
04-09-2006, 02:51 PM
Hi there, :) I agree with blaz ~ so I've created your own Anatomy Thread here:
Anatomy Thread of jrdollesin (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=3436671#post3436671)
If you will kindly copy your work from this thread to your new thread, and remove your work from this thread, I would appreciate it. :)
Looking forward to critiquing your work on your new thread!

sorry guys for being unethicak, especially to you NINJA and rebeccack i was unconscious when i post these, due to over excitement to see my works exposed.
thank you for your attentions.
04-10-2006, 01:11 PM
I like your angel, he looks a bit angry or mysterious. The anatomy (to me) looks good and the wings too.
Looking out for more steps.
04-10-2006, 02:25 PM
Hi...NinjaASSN // Blaz...:)
There is a pair of wings in the... Favorite Figurative Artists - Links... that you might want to take a look at....They are on page # 2...frame # 24....Caravaggio link.... 1600 - 03 ..they
are at the bottom of that page...you can enlarge them 200 per cent, and change the
background to black at the top of the screen, to get a better look at them......I think that
something simaler to those might look great on your figure.
I don't know the story behind your dark angle yet, but those boots are really not doing anything for me....would like to see some nice feet there, with stress on the toes..ect
would go better with the rest of the figure I think...just my personal opinion though.
Really like the pose, and the expressive feeling and mood that you have captured here,
just with expression alone, and without having to rely on anything else...GREAT JOB... :applause:
04-12-2006, 08:21 PM
No worries! :) I have since moved your work to your own thread, here:
04-12-2006, 08:31 PM
thnx for all the kind words and critics ofcors :) It will be posted in the finished threads soon I hope. Thnx to all for ur help, especially to u Rebeccak for those wrist tips :)
SpiritDreamer: I see what u mean, but I left him his boots on, coz I think this way he is something special, not so ordinary.. And also black boots fits well into the shadow under him, make him one with the dark. Thank u for ur long and great post :)
04-12-2006, 08:39 PM
No problem! When you post your final piece, please post a link to the thread here. :)
04-17-2006, 09:48 AM

Hi dude! love the colours of the sky, very cool. Talking about the wings mmm, donīt know, I think some tones are too dark but, anyway, cool image:beer:
