Hi all.
I am experiencing a strange import problem when importing a 3ds object into the scene I'm working at.
I post a render of the object imported in a new scene (and it's ok) and a rebder of the object imported into my scene. It's all faceted and I'd like to know why this occours.
I've tried to smooth and unify normals but have no results.
I'm a beginner.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Heya maga,

it looks like you have duplicate faces - two polygons in the exact same place, which will cause a lot of problems when you render. Try changing to element mode, clicking on the basin of the sink and see if there are two objects sitting in the same place. This is quite common if it came in from a cad program.

Hi John,
tha for your reply, I will try it this evening.
I was also pondering that maybe it's a question of system units, could that be.
It happened to me that I was importing a 3ds object into the scene and got the window asking if I wanted to merge bla bla and I said yes, the mesh came all messed up, when I imported into a new scene without caring of merging and scaling the mesh came out just right..........
Just a thought...........

Could Also be a smoothing group problem (solution: smooth the faces again) or a material problem: A vertex in 3ds cannot belong to faces with different materials, so MAX splits the vertex at import (solution: weld the vertices with a very small threshhold).
