Ok, I realize I must be missing something oh so simple here, but I'm just not getting it. I'm doing a basic room scene, and one of the skylights coming through the window is going onto the floor, behind a wall where I don't want it to go. I know what a diffuse map is, but for class we were given a floor texture and bump premade with ramps, so it's not like I have an .iff texture to know where to place this diffuse map to get the effect that I want. What am I missing? How do I go about creating a diffuse map when I can't paint directly on the floor, so it's a guessing game in photoshop?

Here's an image...http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a3/Arenyth/omgatticcopy.jpg

Please don't butcher me for being an idiot... maybe I'm just having an off day..

I found a way around my problem, using a shadow light. I'm completely new to lighting, and for those other noobs, this is extremely helpful.

Create a light, and turn on shadows. Place it so you get the shadow that you want. Duplicate the light, and leave it in place. Turn off shadows, and make the intensity the exact opposite of the original light. (just put a negative sign in there). The light from the spotlight will be neutralized, leaving only the shadow.
