Hello

This has been on my mind for quiet some time now, it’s a question to the 3d modellers out there that do a wonder full job of bringing a 2d creation or thought to life.Currently I work in a computer related field, I enjoy my work but at many times I have WAY to much time on my hands and really feel like I am not contributing much to the company nor to my self and my goals / hobbies.
And this is when I decided to write what I’m writing now.

What would you suggest to someone with knowledge in 2d character design which stands at an intermediate level who is interested in doing 3d modeling? And what ways is the best way to achieve it?

I know there are many art schools around where I live (Montreal) though they can be expensive (12 000$ to 19 000$ and up) so until I find I reach a semi professional level I rather teach my self with a little coaching from the online community.

Thank You

Sorry in advance to all those who take this as a " OMG HELP I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO " post. Its not in my intetion... I just want to enhance my knowledge :)

The first thing I'd suggest would be to start with a free 3d program like Gmax, and work on their tutorials to get used to the program and 3d modelling in general.

Then, once you're used to the modelling environment, you might want to try a few low poly character modelling tutorials, and use your own characters as references. Then, as you get more confident, you can try higher poly characters, texturing, rendering techniques etc. all of which there are countless tutorials on the net for.:)

ok.

Its pretty good since I already have a lot of low detail drawings from way back when I started they may look silly but im sure they will do the trick.

Ill look into gmax as soon as I get a chance.
