View Full Version : Gone, Linda Bergkvist (2D)
Anarki3000 03-05-2006, 11:43 AM THIS is just excellent. Great painting on the body. The leaves turned out just great, details are absolutely awesome, you can even see the veins the character's hand, the skin texture is superrealistic and tone is unique, your style, of course. Enayla... do you want to reach perfection or what?

very interresting composition, and colors. a couple of things bother me though
1: in some places you paint the leaves detailed, with texture and all, and at the left side of the picture you cant really make out the leaves, and it looks abit like clonestamp effect.
2:The dark black spots look airbrushed on top of the painting, they dont really interract with the leaves
alil crit among the "wows" , hoppas jag inte är ute på hal is ;)

Holy Jesus... I thought you were perfect Linda, but with every artwork you bring to life, you demonstrate you prove yourself and can make perfect things even better. This is truly a masterpiece... Not only because of you impecable and well-known technique, but the emotion within... The tones, the realism of the skin (the nose, the nose!!), the composition... Everything is greatly done. I cannot say further more, I'm in awe

It's absolutely beautiful
However, May I ask(if this has not been asked before) that why the forefinger of his right hand seems has four parts(is it called limb?sry about my English) instead of the normal three, or is it a very long limb with two short limbs?
and the forefinger of his lefthand seems only has 2 parts(or with a very short limb at the front)
I'm just wondering why seems everything else is painted to scale and kinda "realistic" but not the fingers?what's the special thing hidden here. does it have some special meaning or this is just looks prettier than the normal finger?

looking at the image, there is one thing that still makes the character look alive, and that's the jaw. The model looks like they had their mouth closed when posing. When a person has died, the muscles in the jaw go slack. A person laying on their side when dead will have a mouth very slightly open, or at the very least, the lips will no longer meet symmetrically, because the lower jaw will have slid "sideways" under the pull of gravity. Like when you fall asleep and start to drool :)
The work is gorgeous, but Linda's statement mentions specifically the trouble she went through to make the character look deceased, and I think that was the only thing not quite selling it for me.
I'm not saying the character should have had a slack jaw hanging open... I think that probably would have spoiled the piece. The idea here I'm sure was to create a beautiful image, not a photograph of a dead person in all it's morbidity.
I never , or almost never reply to some other thread... But this one , i really had to reply (even, linda , u'll maybe never see it , but at leat i had to write it !)
(eeee first , forget all the mistake i may do , english is only my sec. language at all ^^)
I'm just totally charmed by this piece , more than all of the other ! (if it is possible ^^) . The skin of your character is simply amazing , i could look at the skin of my boyfriend next to me and find that your character's skin look more realistic then his one ! I'm really anxious to see your furiae book and hope i'll be able to get it ! (i'm from canada , that not that easy !) so i just wanted to express myself on this beautiful and so goergeous piece ! I'm really not the only one who think like that but i'ts so great to express ourselves loool ^^.
I wanna paint much more like you ! learnnnnn meeeeee

I had such a vision of how I wanted it – peaceful yet sad, because the character depicted is no longer alive... and it was hard. It was very hard.
You did well. As soon as I opened the image, I knew they were no longer alive and it made me jump. To convey that instantly.. amazing.

This is a really stunning image! Very expressive too. I love the realism of it, colors and shapes. It does feel like a classical painting too. Your hands are probably the most impressive part of it the picture, they look very accurate and they seem to be conveying a message.

Well First things 1st - "Hi Linda" :) I just discovered you or rather your work and was floored by it heh.
I have many many questions but realise you're probably a busy person and have about a gazillion online acquaintances who are for-ever asking questions of you and praying on your time, so I will limit the questions heh :)
Firstly, what advice would you give to someone such as myself, who like you 8 yr's ago was it? has just gotten their 1st Wacom tablet and copies of PS CS 2 & Painter IX.5 ?
The 2 applications in question are very daunting to me right now hehe, and I am very confused by allot of the settings within them, but I am slowly plodding along at my own pace and exploring as best I can.
At the moment things like resolution and the whole ppi and diameter size of canvases are very confusing lol; for instance, I don't get how say a canvas of 250 by 352 at 96 ppi is smaller on screen inside PS CS 2 in size, than a canvas of the same size diameters but with 300 ppi?
That vexes me ALLOT heh, because to me I always thought that ppi simply meant that the bigger the value the more times a section of the canvas has been divided into more pixels i.e. a square gets divided into 4, then again into 8, then again into 16 etc, and if that is so then why one earth is the canvas getting bigger? in theory it shouldn't and all that should be happening is the canvas is getting more pixels within via being divided and divided. lol
Anyways.. as you can see I am very much the beginner, so I guess the most important question I would like to ask of you is what sources did you sue yourself when at the stage I am at right now, who were the artists that you went to looking for tutorials and inspiration, advice etc?
Thanks for the inspiration you give me and others, and congratulations on another wonderful piece of digital art work :)

Excellent stuff.

I'll be honest...i didn't flick through all the fan (of which i am one) responses to see if this was covered. To me the third finger of the right hand is a little uniform, in that it's hard to see the differentiation between finger segments...
I know it's possibly a light and angle issue, but it just struck me that something was missing there....:$
Anyways, it's a great piece and exceptionally made :) the previous comment is just a small thing I thought was a tiny bit off, not to sound like I only have criticisms, I just can't be bothered going thorugh the encyclopedia of things that were great.

Linda, this piece is great!! I learned of who you are through the D'artiste book from Ballistic and have been hooked on your stuff ever since. I must say, I absolutley love you!!!
I've picked you as my favorite digital artist and always tell people to check out your site. I work with a bunch of other artists and they are mind blown when they see your stuff. Just like in this piece, you have a very nice level of details in your work. Your since of color is astounding and the enviornments and feeling you capture in your work is wonderful. Very refreshing!

If I should write what I feel looking at your work, probably I could fill pages, or type nothing at all. Too many words, and I guess that they're not enough. And when I say "your work" I mean all your artwork. When I saw "These Woods", four years ago, I fell in love inmediately with that image and all the others that you painted. And that you will paint, because I'm still in love and I know that I will be for all my life.
You're the best, simple as that.
All my respect.

it is a beautiful piece. the title is perfect, it tells a story of it's own but still makes me wonder why she is gone, if it was by her own will or if it was inflicted upon her.... i have j'adore and from now on it will always remind me of this sad and touching painting :)
...wonderful and inspiring work as always.

I don't know why, but this made me think of the CD cover art for Enya's Sheapard Moons album...or Watermark.
Beautiful skin tones and overall color fits the mood. The fall leaves are a nice touch, given the subject.
This is just a beautiful piece - thank you for not giving up on it!

Title: Gone
Name: Linda Bergkvist
Country: Sweden
Software: Painter, Photoshop
I've decided to share my final piece for the Furiae book, since I've submitted it to Exposé 4, anyway :]
I've no inclination to go into the story behind it right now... but the painting took me ages to complete. I had such a vision of how I wanted it – peaceful yet sad, because the character depicted is no longer alive... and it was hard. It was very hard. A friend of mine, Johan, posed for the references almost half a year ago, and I tried to finish the picture on many occasions without ever quite 'getting' it. I couldn't achieve the look I wanted no matter how hard I tried.
Then, a while ago, I sat down and finally I caught the feeling for it. I think it was in the skintone that made the difference. Or perhaps the textures. Something 'clicked', anyway, the way things do very rarely.
The piece is done about 50% in Photoshop, 50% in Painter... with a lot of different textures applied chiefly to the foliage to give it the right look. The skintone is painted almost exclusively in Photoshop as I still blend colours best there :) The face, some people tell me, resembles my own – but for once I wasn't using myself as the reference! Not fair!
My Dior perfume modelled for the bottle, so I guess I sort of snagged the general shape of that bottle from J'adore – if you've seen the bottle, you know what I mean. In the end, I think the hands and the bottle took by far the longest to make. After, I've refrained from painting any other detailed hands, hehe, I guess these just took the spirit out of me.
And for the close-ups:

Hmm... those examples are very convincing. I've done some reasearch myself, and this is what I found:

What's more disappointing is the hair tutorial; I brightened up my monitor and I can clearly see the photo she's blending. I brightened up one of her steps so you can clearly see it:

It looks like she is in fact a liar; She should mention she uses photos in her works, especially in a tutorial.

Oh I didn't know that. I guess she's allowed to create fake tutorials and claim she paints them from scratch. It's OK for her to lie to her viewers because 'she's a friend of the community'. Linda Bergkvist a liar and a con artist, and isn't capable of doing what she claims she can. I have no better term for someone that creates fake tutorials, teaching others to paint, when she's photomanipulating.
Robert, tell me why you feel this is OK:

I wonder if that's why she refused to make a video tutorial in which you see her paint a picture from scratch? Even though the community was begging her...

Exactly. She nearly had a heart attack when she learned she had to present a 'sketch' for her Master and Servant entry. She doesn't want anybody to see how she works. CG Society isn't doing anything about this, sadly.

ok.
if she says its 100% her work.. bad.
if she uses reerences... so what.
the best example is the picture where you clearly recognize the refpic (girl looking to right top corner). the beatuy of the pic lies in th hair and the colors... so what.
i read some posts now and was on conceptart.org and learned that some say she declares her technique and some say she would be freakin hot.
hope this whole "lets rub mud in ones face" is not because of an abadoned love or she got a job you loved to get too.
with the words of an admin on conceptart:
go do some art.

close this one please. not involved not even in the whole linda hype, but hurts me nontheless

Exactly. She nearly had a heart attack when she learned she had to present a 'sketch' for her Master and Servant entry.
Now what do you mean? She DID present a sketch for her entry. In fact, she posted several sketches, all of which show a lot of experience in digital painting. She has fabulous painting skills.

I'll cut to the chase; This is SLICKGREEKGEO. I've posted a lot of things the last year or so, that I deeply regret. I offended a couple of mods in the process, in forums I highly respect, including this one. There's a lot of reasons why I did this; Personal problems, health* problems, and my own stupidity. I took a couple of months 'off', so to speak, to get it together. And I finally have.
I want to apologize to you personally and anyone else at CG Talk that I ever disrespected, including ENAYLA. I regret my actions and most, if not all the posts I made to those people (and anyone else I offended in the process). It was immature and childish, and it's something I'm ashamed of. I don't want to be known as the enayla stalker. I don't want to be remembered as an a-whole. I have no one to blame but myself for my actions; It's something I'll have to live with for the rest of my life.
You'll NEVER see me post anything offensive to anyone in the future (on CG Talk or any other forum, for that matter). I want to rebulid my reputation, and I want to do this by being courteous and polite to others. I'd like a fresh start if that's not too much to ask, and I hope I'll be forgiven through time. I can only hope you accept my apology.
Thank you for your time.
