hi guys....
I got question about 3DS Max....
I want to create a wavy ocean animation in 3D. How can I create this?
What object should I use to create an ocean?
Tips 'n trick are most welcome...

If you're looking at the ocean from a distance, all you need is a 1-polygon plane and an animated bump map (for example a mix of fractal noise and waves map). If you need real 3D waves, you'll need a lot more polygons and for example a displace modifier with animated maps. You might take a look at this:

A nice and quick shortcut for making 3D waves is to create a plane with for example 50x50 polygons, add an animated noise modifier (fractal) with some Z strenght, and on top a push modifier with a negative value. I guess someone wrote about this technique in some thread here...

I haven't test it yet, but the picture is quite promising....
for additional information, wave that I want to create is a stromy ocean wave. Like the one you see in Perfect Storm, or Kingdom of Heaven.
