View Full Version : OT: AfterFX 6.5 and radial rain?
Katachi 02-21-2006, 11:09 PM Hi,
I am rather a noob in AFX and I need to make radialy emitting rain. I used the particle simulation effect to create rain normally falling down, but now I have a top view and I need to make the rain appear to fall in view direction.
So is there a kind of attractor or anything to make the particles move that way. I don´t have any specific plugins thou, so only onboard tools.
Thanks iA

ok, you can most probably screw that. I just got the freaking idea to render c4d particles out and composite them to the scene. What an enlightning idea...*cough* :D

no please dont stop mucking with AE
doing stuff in AE can sometimes be much much faster than the same result in cinema.
it might seem slower till you know it better but its worth it

hey robotbob,
thanks for your answer. Yes, using Cinema 4D gave me a solution, but it´s not very satisfying (as the motion blur of the particles looks not much like rain).
So is there a solution in AE without plugins or with free plugins? What does the "trapcode particular" do? Is it free?
Anybody else an idea how to solve the mentioned prob. I am willing to learn. :)
Thx

trapcode particular is not free - check out all the great trapcode plugs at:
http://www.trapcode.com
AE does have in-built particle systems of varying quality - do you have AE standard or pro? I think the Pro version has more in-built options (look under the "effects>simulation" menu)

Thanks. I´ll have a look at those.

I´m using pro here and am already using the particle simulation as stated in the original thread post, but it doesn´t allow very much. Is there a scripting system in AE that can control particles? Then I´d be writing my own solution. :)

samir, take a look at this: link (http://www.c4dboard.com/index.php?showtopic=3905&st=2280&p=117468&#entry117468)
example-video and c4d-file can be found there.... good luck.
hmmm, sorry, it seems that the author removed those files from his server,
maybe you could ask him via PM ?

thanks cornel. I´m however looking for a AFX solution as c4d wise I solved it already. :)
