View Full Version : Physique scaling problem
pythr 12-12-2002, 10:41 AM Hi there,
just new here. Curious how this works...
At this moment I'm using Character Studio to create a few characters. When I try adjusting the biped structure height or when I scale separate bones, the physique mesh only scales on the local X-axis. This results in longer but relative slim limbs when I make the character bigger or the opposite effect for scaling to a smaller size.
I think I accidently hit some general setting, because it won't work anymore on several different files, while the same files do scale OK on another computer. Does anyone know how I can return to my default settings?
Thanx in advance!

I had the same problem. It would be nice to have a solution for this. Please Post!:bounce:

I think this issue is resolved in character studio 4, which is expected sometime early this year.
Generally, when you scale up a character in CS3.0+, you have to save the physique and biped structure to file, then unlink the bones (generally by deleting the physique modifier), then scale you character, scale the bones to fit the character again, then reapply physique with the saved file.
This method sucks, but it's the only way I've known to get around the problem.:hmm:

I feared this.:annoyed:

I was afraid of this too. I still think it is strange that scaling the biped was no problem untill this certain moment. And it still works on other computers than mine... So I solved it there, because otherwise it would have cost me too much time. And that is why I think they invented this function. Let's wait for CS 4...
Thanks anyway for the reactions

Hi Martin,
Thanks for all the effort creating a demo movie. Nice approach to scale linked objects separately. Unfortunately my problem ís slightly different. It concerns the body of a character that has a physique modifier. Length of the arms, fingers, legs (local X-axis) etc. DO scale correctly with the biped bones, but the width and height don't (local Y and Z axis). See the attachment.
:hmm:

the scale movie thingiee i did is old...
well here is some different things that might help...
1. The "correct" way of scaling bipes (from help file) is to use the Figure mode > Structure > High
I think y did it this way....
2. ok and the other way... save the physique settings. Remove the Phys. modifyer. now link the body to the biped. Just like I did in the movie. Scale and load Phys. settings
else feel free to send it here: martin.ba@stofanet.dk

Hey Martin,
Okaaayyyy, now I get it. I think I missed the "re-load physique" part in your movie. This really might work without too much tweaking! Problem solved. Thanks!
