Ok this is my first post. I just came across this site care of a friend of mine that is a big Lightwave fan. This site is AMAZING.

Personally, I just started modeling in October. I'm taking a course in 3DS Max that meets once a Saturday for 5 hours. Now though, I'm thinking of learning Maya as well since it seems that's what everyone is using ( I live in Seattle area ). I've been drawing since I was a kid, and realized modeling is the next step for me. Anyways here are my models. You can view all of them here at my site.

I'm still new to the forum thing so if I blundered by just leaving a post/URL not an image let me know!:)

I'm really trying to get into the game industry, seems near impossible...with some of the work I've seen on this site; my chances are slim. SO I hoped you guys could give me some critiques and some ideas on what I should present, in my portfolio. I'm pursuing a career as a 2D concept/3D modeler position, maybe an animator if I can ever figure out how to animate a head with working eyes and mouth...my classes I'm taking right now don't teach that. :( Any tutorials/books you all could point me to?

Thanks a bunch. I hope to hear some honest opinions *fingers crossed*. Everyone here is damn good, so good its frustrating!

Cool thanks for the info. I'll check it out. Nope, never played D&D, I'm actually more of a sci-fi dork. Maybe I'll start posting that stuff soon enough.

Thanks again.

Yeah like they say, it just takes some practice. From what I can see you have a cool style. It reminds me of Lodoss War, which is good. I like your sketches, thats where you can save a lot of time in your 3D work, lots and lots of planing. You are on your way for sure.

Wow. Didn't know many other people knew of Lodoss War. Ya, that was one of my biggest influences...that and Bubblegum Crisis. Glad to know there are others out there that know that:)
I really like drawing elves etc with the longer ears...Western style elves remind me too much of Vulcans. Not that I don't like Vulcans...just well eh nevermind.
Thanks for the response! Back to looking up info on gods, monsters, and myths.

Nice stuff dude :D
Considering you've only been at it a few months you're definately coming along.

From the 2d work on your site it's clear that you have enough artistic ability to pull off some awesome models in the future. I'd suggest working with some higher polycounts aswell (round the 3.5-4k mark) so you can have some real fun hehe.

Don't just limit your tutorial reading to max ones, try and absorb as many techniques as possible, regardless of original program, as you can usually apply other workflows with max too.

I'd be spending more time analysing topology, poly distribution and some of the more technical aspects of creating characters.
Study as many wireframes as you can, and try incorporating their ideas, testing them out for yourself and seeing what works best for you.

For some basic game art theory I'd suggest reading Thinking Outside The Box (http://www.loonygames.com/content/1.1/totb) by Paul Steed (change the 1.1 for other articles)

catch ya
