This is taken from a tutorial I found online, I would link you to it but it's dead right now, maybe forever :(

Foreground 73/76/73, background 60/60/60, Filter > Render > Clouds. Filter > Artistic > Sponge with the settings at 0/0/1. Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast. -10, -70.

This is your base metal color. To add highlights, take the dodge tool, set it to zero hardness and a bit larger than your highlight should be, and run it over the highlight a few times. Make it smaller and run it over the middle a bit, then smalle ronce again and down the middle. This will give you a strong highlight. For darker parts, take the burn tool and do the same thing, only turn down the strength a bit. With chrome you want lots an dlots of highlights since it reflects lots of stuff. When you've got a few highlights/shadows done, go into levels, Hue/Saturation/Value, and Brightness/Contrast and fiddle around with those to make it look closer to what you want.

Thanks people, good idea you have there TychoCelchuuu

I tried your little tutorial but why can i just paint the hightlights with a white brush ? and can someone tell me whats the difference between "shadows" and "midtones"

you use shadows for shadows, is that it ?

thanks for the replies
