I first whana say hey to every artists on this forum, I have been hanging around for I while now but never post some work of mine. I most say I'm impressed by the quality of the work you have one Cgtalk, amazing and inspiring art indeed.

I have been modelling for five years now (specially cars), and I never got to the point where I feel satisfied with my work, instead of reaching the point of texturing and animate I just started a new project.
So the bottom line is that I never got the skills in texturing, animating and lighting. Thats why I thought it was time to post some of my work on my last car, the Porsche 911 GT3 to get some critiques, in general what you feel about the image. But I'm most intressted in your thought about the light and reflections.

I'm willing to share my settings, with the purpose to improve my renders and general understanding for 3d.

General Info:
Software: 3ds max 8, Vray and photoshop
technique: Polymodelling
Light: Direct light, Gi and skylight
Enviromentmap: HDRI

I don't like the rubber shader, need to fix that or what do you think?
This is not final in any way, just a test render to setup a studio.
What do you feel about the light?
Don't hesitate to say what you think, though i'm not a pro so please be gentle.

Ps, there is no actually purpose with this project, it's for fun and to improve my Texturing and render skills (If i have any at all, trail and error :) ). Whana improve my renders and the goal is to get a photorealistic resulte. Finaly a A3 print would be nice.

*Alles: Thanks! I like it to. Good idea, will post it at cg-cars aswell.

*TheThinMan: Thank you very much, I'll post more renders and even some clay renders.
Any specific angles you whana see?

I'd understand it's hard to comment this renders, especially if you arn't the car freak guy. I think it's really hard to, a admit it, thats why I turn to you guys.

I feel it's time to show you the work a whole too, the interior also start to get detailed. http://forums.cgsociety.org/images/icons/icon7.gif
And it's the interior thats need most work of textures and uwv mapping.
The model of the body is 98% done, don't like the tail light even the windshield wipers is really in need of remodelling.

Ps. will post more pic's whene I get home tonight (sweden)

Hi Callan2k.

I am also trying to model a gt3 at the moment. You are a lot further then I am though. The car looks really good at the moment. Very detailed.

I am working on the headlights at the moment so I thought I'd make a few comments about that. There's what looks like a strip of metal surrounding the main headlight which is hard and defined in the real thing. I can sort of see it in yours but it doesn't look right.

The reflecty bit in the main headlight looks really good, I'd be interested to know how you did that. The glass cover should have more defined ridges in it, it looks too flat in your render. The indicator looks really nice but it needs to be darker.

*Morlankey, Great to hear from another guy modelling this pease of art. You have a intreasting point, the headlights is a pain. I'll check that out whene I stop working, weekend =(.
Have my computer at work in the moment, but mabey I'll post a pic to help you out. The part I think you mean isn't that accuret. It's my interpretation you see, I don't really know how it's look in reality. It's really hard to see thouse ditails in pic's. In general I think the headlights and even the tail-lights is a pain in the ass. So I'm glad to hear you opinion, thanks again!

Ps, I didn't have time to post any updates. It will come, so be patient.
Chears!

Edit: Here is a prt scr
