Theres already a MASSIVE thread on this in the news section.
Its essentialy just making each light and the lights influence on the scene * Reflection/Refraction/GI/CAustics/Diffuse* into an HDR format layer in add mode and compositing them.
You can do pretty much the same with photoshop or other add/linearburn supporting multi layer image editors. the only real 'neat' part about this, is theyve made a way to attach each sample to a light. Weither MW is rendering each light split in the background, im not sure.
