My home computer is dying. Granted its about 3-4 years old, but it has served me well.

I have been researching various systems and am a little overwhelmed this time around. So I bring questions to the pros :). The system I need would be for home use (Max 8, graphic/web design, and games). Ideally I would like something that I would not have to upgrade in at least 2-3 years.

1. What is the difference between a Workstation and a Desktop? It seems like the line between is very blurred.

2. Do I need to worry about purchasing for Max 9 or 10? - IE: go 64 bit?

3. The computer I have right now (3-4 years old) was top of the line then and purchased it for about $2500 - can I expect the same amount of expenditure or more?

4. The Quaddro cards are made for Max I know. Are there disadvantages to having one of them with other applications?

5. Any suggestions? :)

You should really check out the hardware forums here. There's a LOT of info there if you haven't seen them yet.

I've been looking at a video card for at home, and the info in there made up my mind on which one to use (6800GS).

Top of the line is also VERY subjective! Bleeding edge? Sometimes it's a dangerous place to be for a workstation that you want around for a while. It also depends on if you build your own or not... $2500 on a prebuilt system won't go nearly as far as $2500 on one you build yourself, but problems are also someone else's headache to solve if you get a system from a place with good customer service.

Quadro cards are not always happy in games. They're built for work. It seems counterintuitive. But, like most things that's not a rule or set in stone.

I would suggest you build your own. Quaddro cards are crap in gaming as well...
