View Full Version : Morph targets: Is there a way to mirror expressions?
AndrewAnimation 02-18-2006, 02:11 AM Hello,
What I mean is, for example, if I duplicate a character's head to be a morph target--meaning the vertex count must be equal, and, to the best of my knowledge, not a single vertex can be added or deleted--and then I want the morph target to close its eyes, is there a way in which I can just do the work for one half of the face and somehow duplicate it onto the other half while keeping its ability to be a morph target? So far I've just been doing both sides from scratch, no matter how long it takes to complete a certain expression on only one side alone. I hope I explained it clearly.
Thanks.

Which program are you using? I dont know about other programs but there is a script for Maya that does just that. It saves alot of time.

if your using maya you can also -scale in x and then convert to subdiv then convert back to poly. or vice verser if your using subdivs. saves you getting the script above

One technique that might help would be to use soft selection and mirror the selection. To do so, you would choose soft selection, hit the paint button and then open brush options. You should see a box for mirror. That would at least allow you to select the same verts on each side of your model.

Wow that sounds awesome Yungimoto, thanks for that info. It'll come in handy sometimes. The only times it wont come in handy are the times where i want to, for example, make one morph target that has the right eye shut, and one morph target that has the left eye shut. i cant just turn on mirror in this case, because both targets must have one eye open. in this case, i would have to shut the right eye myself and then shut the left eye all over again, from scratch, on another mesh. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks!
