This is something I’ve been putting together for a contest…. but I missed the deadline. Still, I’d like to get it finished and make the most of what I’ve done so far.

The problem is that it works OK when cropped to buggery but it doesn’t work as an entire image. I’m a bit lost to what to do. I’m not really skilled in composition and layout and such (It’s not something I’ve done for a long long time).

Also, I’d like some hints and tips on how to get a good ripped paper effect. The background is meant to be a RIPPED poster on a wall. It just doesn’t look very papery. :/

Any help will be muchly appreciated. Thanks

Interesting idea, and I kinna like the blood forming the stripes. However, isn't the flag backwards?

No composition tips from me, but for the ripped paper effect, there are a couple things you can do. Best would be to rip up a piece of paper and scan that. :) If you want to handpaint, one thing to remember is that, with the exception of handmade paper, most paper typically has grain running in one direction. This will influence how it tears (cleaner rips along the grain, more jagged against).

I find that both work very well. Sure, the cropped one is a bit more "elegant", but I feel the other one works very well too. Anyway fabulous work !
