View Full Version : Importing topographic drawing to 3d max
volk23 02-17-2006, 08:23 PM I have a CAD file that has land topography in, i need to somehow build a land surface with the coordinates from this topography. Is there a way to import it with any other program?

Forgive my ignorance, but how is topology data stored in AutoCAD? I'm assuming you're referring to splines like a topographical map? If so, there used to be a terrain generator in max that would use elevated splines to make terrain. I would assume it's still in max, but I haven't used it since max 3

Export as dwg or dxf.. might have to tweak some settings. If the topology data is in the forms of splines in autocad, then the terrain function in max should work well. Just remember to weld vertices together otherwise you might get strange effects.
