View Full Version : Creating swirling mist or fog?

Hello,
I am trying to create swirling mist or fog, rising up from the ground for a nocturnal forest scene. It should look realistic, though obviously in a romanticised/supernatural sort of way.

I have tried using both fluids and particles to achieve this, but have not gotten very good results... certainly nothing like the swirling whispy effect I am looking for.

I know how to work fluids and particles, but am by no means a master at it - though I am trying to improve my skills in this area!

If anyone has any suggestions, or links to tutorials it would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

It should be very easy to do this with fluids... The swirl attribute is your friend in this case

Two or three turbulence fields with differing frequencies should give some nice results if you want to work with particles. If you animate the Y phase on each you can get some nice vortices and swirls. Less is usually more - try frequencies that are part of the fibonacci series (1, 2, 3, 5, 8...).
