UPDATE: SECOND PASS (http://pratt.edu/%7Ealiebert/cgtalk/second_pass_walk.avi) < PLEASE CRIT. (see below)

Hello All. I am digging deeper into my thesis, and have finished rigging the character Dr. Erlenmeyer.

I've put about 25 minutes into the first pass of the walk cycle, I would appreciate any and all crits. Please note it's early stages- specifically, I haven't done anything above the waist (head, arms, shoulders) as he is going to be doing a completely different motion while he walks.

I would VERY much appreciate any and all crits on this first pass, specifically in terms of timing and orientation in the motion of the legs for the walk. I'll keep posting throughout the night! Thank you!

and this is a super quick deformation test of the face rig, if you're curious:

The W.I.P. thread for the model is here (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=315332)if you want to see the shading progress.

THANK YOU!!

I've refined the feet to a point I'm happy with, and working on the swing of the arm.

I'm having a really hard time getting the timing quite right for the seconary action/follow trhough as that arm/hand swings, its falling too late or too early, but I can't seem to fix it. Any and all crits are greatly appreciated!!

looks good Monkey...great start.
-maybe the arm should cross over in front of his body a little more.
-more head and torso movement would help a lot. If not his head, just some slight torso movement, like tilting front/back turning side to side slightly.
-the fingers are so fluid as the arms reaches back, that in comparison, when his arm goes forward again, the fingers are so stiff.

Just a few things I noticed. Looking forward to seeing more changes!

THIRD PASS < 380k AVI (http://pratt.edu/%7Ealiebert/cgtalk/third_pass_walk.avi)

Thank you so much for your crits guys!

I've tried to take them both into account, added some twist to the torso, a subtle bob to the head, and added some secondary motion on the fingers when they swing forward. (So they come closer together like u suggested.) It might be too subtle to see- what do you think? I've been looking at it too long to judge.

He's going to be waving like this in the actual shot so I've started adding that. Comments on the wave appreciated, not sure if it's too simple. All crits are appreciated! Thanks everyone.

Lookin good Monkey... Although subtle, the way the fingers come together when swinging to the front helps a lot.

Overall, it seems to me that when you're animating, you're only rotating things on one axis. The hand wave, for example is very rigid. Try 'turning' his hand just a little, like you would when turning a door knob. The head and torso could be animated more as well....if you want his head to always be looking at the camera, that's fine, but at least rotating his torso or shoulders would help him not look so rigid. But then, maybe that's the style you're going after.

I also see a slight glitch when his left hand starts going forward.

I agree with biochemist that a front view would help to see if he's shifting his weight properly.

Looking better all the time!!!
