View Full Version : Modelling embarassment

I'm reasonably experienced in Cinema, but can't figure out an easy solution to this problem. Thus the embarassing need to ask for help on what's probably a noob question.

I often need to create "reveals" in architecture or furniture for visualization. In other apps I can simply extrude inward and get the results that I want. However C4D doesn't seem to understand what I want, (always a failing in software) and I haven't figured out the correct sequence of moves to get what I need.

Could someone take pity on me and give me the answer to this nagging problem?

Many thanks in advance.

Using the Extrude, raise the default Maximum angle from 89 to over 90.

select the poly band, and use extrude, but set the angle to 91 degrees. with grouping selected or whatever that is called.

See? I knew there had to be an easy solution.

:banghead:

Thanks guys.

Werd. I've asked my fair share of noob questions here too. Relaxed, non-judgemental atmosphere.

Just curious: what does setting the angle to >90° do?

It sets the correct IQ of the user to a certain degree..... :hmm: or?

Man, I was running into the exact same problem last night while working through a project. The knowledge base available through forum is fantastic.
Thanks

you obviously haven't read too many threads 'round here :argh:. LOL, glad you found what you needed without being flamed and told to RTFM though

I actually did a search for this solution but didn't find it. As far as reading the manual, I've read it a couple of times, I might add that it's pretty badly done.

Besides all of that, I'm always glad to miss a flame. ;)

The angle setting decides whether adjacent polys are going to be treated as group or single. Default is 89°. Since you want to extrude the poly loop around a cube as a group and not as single polys, you have to augment the angle tolerance to >90°.
HTH!

this angle controls normals of polygons. Command will be "connected" in case angle of normal of contiguous polygons is smaller like definied angle...

Commands: Bevel, Extrude, Extrude inner etc...

Ufff, english :-)

Yep, that helped. Thanks.
