Modeling an Apartment in Maya and rendering in Mental ray. This is a basic layout of how of arranging my new apartment and get some practice on Mental Ray. THe modeling was all done in one day to save time and the lighing about 1 and a half days. The frames take about 20-30 mins each

I think you need to spend more time and detail on the models, lightning and rendering is big, but using low quality models really breaks it. I suggest you models some more, then do some textures, and then the lightning and rendering.

Othar than that the layout looks kewl. Your shadows seems to be a bit strange, do you use any GI or photon maps?

Hi balcides, the images look a little flat to me - I think it's the way the room is lit - the light seems to be bouncing around too much and washing the images out. Maybe try to tone it down a bit and lets see more range between the light and dark areas - I think this will 'lift' the detail out a bit on the furniture.

Good start though.:)

Thank you for your feedback I really appreciate it and I will work on all above mentioned. In refernece to shadows, I stay away from GI and use only FInal Gather to get fester redner times. GI and FInal Gather take too long together and theres ways to cheat detailed shadows which will come later in the scene. Also, I opted for depthmap shadows than ray traced shadows beucase of the speed I wanted in the render. Ray traced shdows still take longer but they are usually my preference, in this excercise I decided to play with dmap shadows hoping to get just as good result.

Yeah, i was gonna say that it seemed like you weren't using any fancy mental ray features. But if what you want is speed.... i'm no expert in faking stuff, I just experiment with different light settings.

the overall design is very intresting.

the effect is to washy. FG is much slower than Gi. So i suggest by starting with photons.
Besides GI gives you more depth to your scene....it gives you more highlights and more dark parts to your objects. And then for fine tuning , you could use FG.

your edges are too sharp. Try rounding them!

Hey, that is a very nice apartment. But I strongly suggest using GI over FG, because I am building a hotel hallway and lounge area, and GI is EXTREMELY use for adding Hyper-realistic details. I would also work on your shaders and models a little more. If you can afford the render times, I would render the scene using GI.

The wait times are long, but the look and feel of the scene is truly rewarding.
